With the field set and the draft (team) order finalized, here’s a look at the
top 10 players at each position a month before the draft. Workouts may change
things slightly and some players may pull out at the June 15th withdrawal date.

Wayne Ellington

Ricky Rubio, James
Harden
, Earl Clark, Blake
Griffin
, and Hasheem Thabeet head each
group.

The point guard position is one of the strongest with potential first rounders
Darren Collison and Rodrigue
Beaubois
not even listed in the top 10 at their position, while the center
position may have just two first rounders (Hasheem
Thabeet
and BJ Mullens) taken in the first
round and a number of players in the top 10 who may ultimately pull their names
out.

Final Four MVP Wayne Ellington is our third
rated shooting guard while many have him rated much lower and see him as a late
first rounder. He looks smaller but actually measured very well last June – 6’5
with a 6’7 wingspan. His smoothness and ability to shoot and score will make him
a valuable asset at the next level despite his below average explosiveness and
defensive ability.

  1. I still think Ty Lawson is
I still think Ty Lawson is severly underrated by this site. I think he is easily in the same class as Flynn. He was the heart and sole of that championship team, his shooting percentages are incredible as well as his A:T ratio. The only thing you can criticize him for is his height. He has the athleticism and smarts to be a VERY good NBA point guard.

  2. PG rankings
I have absolutely no idea why Ty Lawson is 8th the only guard I can see you rating higher than him othr than the top two is maybe Maynor but Ty would probably give him more than he could handle head to head as well I just dont see how the only knock on him is his size at this point but yet you have Johnny Flynn at 4 that just doesnt make any sense

  3. SF rankings
Derrick Brown and Damion James are ahead of Sam Young and Tyler Smith… Sam Young and Tyler Smith are both stronger and at least in the same class athletically and ALSO outproduced both of them over the past two years… but I guess you get a pass on that one as well

  4. Jennings
I could see Jennings this year in Rome in Italian League and Euro League… there is no way he could be a lottery pick…absolutely. He needs to improve in various areas: jump shot, defense, strenght, experience, point-guard skill (he cannot be a combo)…. He has a lot of potential, may be, but still very raw.

  5. Curry at 3 as a pg?
I really dislike your pg rankings. According to your comments, the third best pg in this draft is “At worst a valuable specialty 3 point shooter.” How about mentioning at best, not at worst if he is 3rd best? If you are looking for a true pg Curry may be #10 if that.

  6. Hey Aran, Please Stop Comparing Hansbrough to Madsen
Aran, you’re too smart to fall for this. I know Hansbrough won’t be a member of the NBA All Star team, but will you please refrain from comparing him with Madsen?

As for any similarities between Madsen and Hansbrough, that’s completely absurd. If I were comparing power forwards with Hansbrough, Mark Madsen would probably be at the bottom of the list. Mark Madsen has zero offense, his contribution to the team is purely hustle, drive, and enthusiasm. In sum, he has virtually no skills that one would normally associate with an NBA player.

In sharp contrast to Madsen, Hansbrough is a National Player of the Year on an NCAA Championship Caliber team. He was a monster force on offense and was double or triple teamed virtually his entire career. When teams played NC, their primary focus was stopping or slowing down Hansbrough.

I don’t think Madsen was ever double teamed at any point in his career. Mark Madsen was nothing more than an above average player at Stanford, where the only way he scored was to grab an offensive rebound and lay it back in. He couldn’t score in college and incredibly, he is even worse in the NBA.

In my opinion, the only reason anyone would compare these two players is the fact that they’re white power forwards. Other than the position they play and their race, there are no similarities in their game.

    • Amen
Dude thankyou I’m so glade someone brought out the race card. To many times on this site I see people putting down white guys. White guys are the best shooters. Madsen is nothing like Hansbrough its like comparing houses and trailers.

    • Where were you when Madsen was college?
Listen… Madsen had offense in college. Unfortunately for him, he couldnt translate that to the pros. thats how it goes… And unfortunately for you, he mirrors Madsen. they both had tremendous heart and hustle that made them better on the college level but really, tell me, when have you seen this type of player develop into a NBA go-to type? Eric Montross was SERIOUSLY a better player at UNC so whats the gripe with NBAdraft.net? Hopefully for you and the rest of your collegiate crazies at UNC, he lands at Cleveland to take Anderson Varejao’s spot b/c thats all he’ll be (at best), a high energy, offensive rebounder/hustle guy. I mean, please, you got a championship out of the guy!

  7. LOL
your so glad that somebody pulled out the race card, but you turn around and say that white people are the best shooters?? hmmm….=/

anyways, am I the only one that thought Goran Suton had an outside shot at getting drafted after the tournament, or did his stock not rise enough with the run to the finals? Although I definitely agree that he does not have the skills to dominate, his ability to hit the outside shot and pass and some post moves could make him a decent role player in the second round for a team

  8. I think the Madsen and
I think the Madsen and Harbrough comparison have to do with Madsen was a beast in college and just a role player in the NBA. Morrison did not translate well and I think that is the big thing. I dont know how athletic Harbrough is but I doubt he is a David Lee type.

  9. Wayne Ellington
Wayne Ellington is my favorite basketball player in the world. Hes been underrated for so long. It’s about time someone notices the guys atheletic, got a wet shot, and the Final Four MVP. I do think he will go to Philidelphia because they have the worst three point shotting in the NBA last year and if they had an outside threat they would be a top 8 team.

  10. Sheltwon – Only White Players
Did you notice the only players you mentioned were white? You mentioned Madsen, David Lee and Morrison. This is one of my pet peeves. Why are white players compared only to other white guys, even when they have very little in common?

Morrison is a thin guy who makes his living shooting jump shots. His game is in no way related to Hansbrough, so why does his name come up?

As for Madson, the comparison is absurd and I explained why in an earlier message above.

While Hansbrough is a decent athlete and only an average rebounder, David Lee is a great leaper and a tremendous rebounder. They have some similarities, but IMHO, not enough to say they are similar players. At least this is one comparison that is reasonable.

The only conclusion I can come to when I see people compare Hansbrough to guys like Morrison and Madsen is they’re based primarily on race. I’m guessing the next comparison I see will be with Brian Scalabrine.

In my opinion, Hansbrough will be a better than average role player in the league. Two players who come to mind when I think of how Hansbrough will impact the game are L. Powe from Boston and C. Landry from Houston. Hansbrough will come off the bench, he’ll have a team first attitude, he will do a lot of the dirty work banging with other power forwards, grab a few rebounds, and as a little bonus, he can occasionally score. In other words, if you don’t pay attention to him on defense, he will put the ball in the basket, which is what Leon Powe does.

Please note, I’m talking about the impact I think Hansbrough will have on the game, I’m not saying his style is exactly the same as Landry and Powe. Another similarity is the fact that both Landry and Powe are coach favorites because they know exactly what they’ll get when Landry or Powe come off the bench. In addition, neither player will cause any team chemistry problems, that’s another plus when comparing Hansbrough to them.

Once again, I think Hansbrough will be a role player in the NBA, but unlike many others, I believe he will be a valuable one. You cannot win championships without solid role players.

  11. Hansborough
Your comments are waaay off base….
Tyler has no offensive skill like Powe or Landry… if Powe or Landry had the players Tyler had surrounding him, they’d have won two titles too. And Powe is still the best of the three despite surgeries.
They were the highlights of the teams (collegiate Purdue & Cal) they played for. Putting their respective teams on the map unlike UNC who happens to be on the map reguardless of talent (which happens to be my pet peeve).
If Tyler was swapped w/either of those players, at those schools, he wouldnt reciprocate the same buzz.
Your homeboy isnt on the board as far as Im concerned… scoring when no one is paying attention is a false reality, all at the same time being a specialty of Tyler’s… LeonPowe & Landry dont do that since they happen to be scorers, just undersized at the position. Powe has been behind Al Jefferson & Garnett… Landry is behind Scola & Yao.
