Strengths: Kelly is an extremely long 6’9’’ ... He knows how to use his length inside and also possesses more than adequate athleticism for a power forward … Has a high-post game and can usually take his man to the basket when he faces up … Shoots a very high percentage from the field (55%), mostly because all of his attempts come from inside the paint … Blocks shots marginally well, but considering Kelly can tie his shoes without bending over, he should be more of a shot-changer on the defense end ...

Weaknesses: A tweener. Lacks the strength to play inside and the skills to play on the perimeter ... Appears to play lackadaisical at times … Has an underdeveloped inside game with virtually no post moves … Lacks a consistent mid-range jumpshot and is a terrible free throw shooter (48.3%)… Does not catch the ball very well inside and often unnecessarily puts it on the floor and turns it over when he catches a pass in the post … Is rail thin and will need to gain at least 20-30 pounds of muscle so he doesn’t get manhandled down low ... Jim Calhoun has a knack for turning his big men from projects to pros, and Kelly is as physically gifted as any forward Calhoun has coached. The player Kelly ultimately becomes will depend largely on how hard he works in the weight room, on his post moves/footwork, and on his jumper.
