Player of the Week

Ben McLemore, Kansas

Ben McLemoreBen McLemoreWhile he didn’t play his best in the 2nd of his three games since the last update, his others two games made up for it. In a huge game against Iowa State in which the Jayhawks trailed for nearly the entire game, McLemore played the role of savior by forcing OT with a banked 3 at the buzzer. Kansas ended up winning in OT and McLemore ended with a season high 33 points on only 12 shots and he didn’t miss a three point shot (6/6) or FT (7/7). He was a bit off against Texas Tech, but in another big matchup against Baylor he went for 17 points 8 rebounds and 3 steals in lopsided victory.

Who’s Hot

Rodney McGruder, Kansas State

McGruder has finally found his scoring stroke as of late, scoring 15+ in 5 straight games, and has gone over 20 points in three of his past seven games. It’s not as though he is just jacking up shots either as KSU is 7-0 in those games, including a win over #8 Florida and #22 Oklahoma State. He’s also made more 3’s in his last four games (14) then he did in his first 12 (12). Along with his scoring and the team success his rebounding and steals are up recently too.

Who’s Not

Aaric Murray, WVU

At one point I thought Murray had turned his season around, but he has fallen back into mediocrity for a disappointing WVU team this year. Some had him pegged as a future lottery pick, but the junior forward has been far from that type of player this year. He’s been struggling to stay on the court due to foul trouble, and when he’s playing he’s been inefficient (38.2 FG%), ineffective (8 ppg, 2 assists in his past five games, 6.6 rpg) and his team is losing in the process (lost 3 of the past 4 games).
