llperezDont know how many of you will have a channel showing this game, but if you do I would watch it or record it or something. These are the two best teams in the pac 10 and it is a chance for you guys to watch potential top pick Derrick Williams vs a very solid defensive Huskie squad led by dynamic pg Isaiah Thomas(16.5ppg…5.4apg).
Williams will be going up against Mathew Bryan Ammaning(15.2ppg…7.7rpg) who is a solid defender at 6-9 240 and a potential second rounder this coming draft. Also keep an eye on Huskie Sophomore Aziz N’Diaye(5ppg…6rpg) who at 7-0 260 is in my opinion maybe the biggest NBA sleeper prospect in the conference that will emerge in the next couple seasons.
Ill be using this thread to make comments on the game.

llperezwashington is as close to NBA size/caliber defenders he will face in the pac 10 so this should be somewhat of an indicator for those questioning his ability to play pf in the NBA against bigger guys. I wouldnt be surprised at all if he struggled.

LAKE SHOWMy biggest sleeper is Anthony Brown. But i will be watching this game. When you said Wiliams potential top pick you didnt mean number 1 pick did you?

llperezyes, he is potentially the top pick.

JJeff6Participantwhere do you think derrick williams should go???
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/20/2011 - 4:37pm #477115
LAKE SHOWNo…he has Zero chance of being a top pick. Teams like him but they are questioning which position he is gonna play. No chance at the number one pick

llperezlook at the top prospects, who has established themselves as clearly better then williams? I’ve seen perry jones, jared sullinger and kytrie irving. I think all of them have a good chance of going ahead of williams, but not clearly. All those guys have issues. Sullinger looks to be a typical banger in the nba. Jones hasnt shown the ability to take over games consistently, he has potential but so have lots of guys in the past. Irving is would probably be my number 1 pcik at thi point, but he is injured and we havent seena ton of him. I havent seen kanter yet.
Williams has more potential to grow then people give him credit for. He is a very good athlete that can go inside or out and run the court. He should be able to score in the nba regardless of position. Question is can he defend pf’s.

llperezfor the record i do not predict williams will go number 1, but no reason to dismiss the possibility which is why i said potentially number 1.

LAKE SHOWi dismiss it as anytype of posssibility. I just texted my bro’s friend who is a scout for the suns (Todd Quinter) and although he likes Williams he said he’s not on anyones board as even a top 5 pick. Theres no team that would pick him over Perry,T.jones,Kyrie Irving. ( scout didn’t say that thats why i say). You may like him and thats understandable but he isn’t a potential number one pick

LAKE SHOWSorry just too many questions about Williams. I dont think they are all just because you’re size shouldnt matter even if you are a combo but theres no way i take him ovber those other guys. Especially not over Sullinger. I’m not a big perry fan but i take him over williams as well because he has more potential. I may be a pac-10 fan but that wont sway me from whats obvious which is Williams has no chance of being the number one pick

llperezwell according to this site, who also has its scout connections, he is a potential number 1 pick, so its not about me liking him. Im not even an arizona fan. I just recognize top players when i see them and i dont see what glaring flaw he has that would keep him from excelling in the nba.

LAKE SHOWi’m willing to bet anything that he wont even be a top 3 pick. check all sites mock drafts and average out where he is thought to be drafted. I like this site but there mock draft changes like the wind even though NBA scouts opinions of who is going where doesn’t change as much. take that how ever you want it.

llperezmost years i would agree, but this year i think nba scouts will have lots of changes in the lottery, just way too up and down. Not one guy who stands out. ANd it really doesnt matter to me if williams goes top 3 or even top 10.

LAKE SHOWHaving said all that i do think he will out play a couple of players who are drafted ahead of him

ilike.panochasParticipantCouple weeks ago, I didn’t think Derrick Williams was worth a top 10 pick, but as of right now, I believe he is worthy of a top 5 selection based on the lack of "blue chip" PF prospect in this draft class. Williams to me has the chance to be Laphonso Ellis in his prime w/o the injury prone, and Ellis was one of the most talented combo forwards in his time and injuries was his enemy. I believe thats the best comparison for Williams.

llperezgood game so far. 45-44 washington with 15 minutes to go. The stars are each leading their team with williams at 13 and 8 rebounds and isaiah thomas at 15 and 4 assists

Demarcus OnealParticipantThis game has been really exciting to watch Williams had a nasty dunk and Overton’s layup was filthy. There has been nice back and forth action between the teams and Williams is the real deal.

llperezwilliams is playing great. But foul trouble has had him in and out of the game. You put him in iso against another pf and he will just blow by them.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/20/2011 - 7:47pm #477253
Demarcus OnealParticipantYeah Washington cannot stop him one on one. Williams needs to stop being passive take control of this game before Washington runs away with the lead
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/20/2011 - 7:50pm #477255
llperezmight be too late. Washington is just deeper and arizona isnt nearly good enough defensively. We should see DWill try and take over here down the stretch.

Demarcus OnealParticipantThat was a dagger by Ross

Demarcus OnealParticipantand a nasty dime by Issiah Thomas
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/20/2011 - 8:01pm #477260
llperezArizona just completely fell apart down the stretch. They dont have one reliable guy outside of williams. ANd their team defense is sub par. Washington is playing very well right now. Isaiah tomas was the man today. Williams played fine but kinda dissapeared over the last 5 minutes.
some stats:
Huskies-
isaiah thomas: 22pts…10 asts…6rebs
justin hiliday: 22pts…3asts…2stls
mathew bryan ammaning: 18pts…7rebs…2blcks
wildcats-
derrick williams: 22pts…11rebs

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIn some games i’ve seen him play … Derrick Williams sometimes have more free throw attempts than field goal attempts…lol
