Saturday, #3 BYU vs #11 Gonzaga, I was hoping that St. Johns was going to beat Gonzaga because I believe BYU would have matched up better with them. I think BYU has a chance to win this game, if Fredette has another monster game. The only problem I see for BYU is Robert Sacre for Gonzaga. They have no low post defense to stop him so it will be interesting to see what happens. I expect Fredette and Sacre to both have a great game, it will come down to who’s supporting cast can come through.

Well tonight i saw St. Johns did the best they could. They were playing great defense on the wing but the offense was just able to drain three after three in the face of the defender.

They really got better as the season progressed. Few always seems to bring complete teams into the tourney, and Gonzaga’s size and solid guard play gave them the advantage over St. John’s. It will be a tough game for BYU, I do not think they have an answer to Sacre, and will struggle with Olynyk and Dower. It will really be about defense for Gonzaga, an area in which many Zags fans criticize Few in not fully instilling in his teams. Not to mention that while Sacre and Olynyk are talents, they have yet to show they are consistent offensive forces. I really like Sam Dower’s future though. He should grow into a solid college player and could have legitimate NBA prospects down the line. I picked St. John’s to go to the 16, but I like Gonzaga to do it now instead. I do not think BYU can compete with their size, and Gonzaga’s guards are not slouches either. Remember, Elias Harris has kind of his a sophomore slump, but their was a reason he was considered a potential first round pick as a 3/4.

I picked Gonzaga in this one.  They look like a very physically imposing team.  The rotation of Sacre, Harris and Olynyk down low with Gray hitting 3’s up top will be tough for any team to overcome.  Plus, they seem to be peaking at just the right time.

Now, like I thought at the beginning of the tourney, BYU has a chance to advance to the elite eight. Florida is the only team that stands in their way but they beat them last year with the same team they have now minus Davies. And Jimmer Freddette is MUCH better then he was last year. Now he is a college basketball star, last year he was just a role player on a mediocre team. BIG improvement and I think that will be the main reason why BYU gets past Florida and into the Elite Eight. (But that’s it, they can’t go any further, at least I don’t think they will)

Yeah I like Gonzaga over BYU as well. Sacre and Gray will prove to be too much, and I think they will come up with some ways to slow down Jimmer by throwing doubles at him.

Byu Low post guys can play defense just as well as Davis. The problem is they are’t as good on offense

Zag’s 3point defense is horrendous though and they dont have excellent perimeter defenders.. BYU might bomb them out of the tourney with 3-balls

On the other hand, what the hell do I know?  I don’t know how you beat BYU when they shoot like that.

What I’d tell you guys. The Zags couldn’t stop Jimmer. Nor could Florida last year and this year they have practically the same team and with Jimmer even better than he was last year, I still think Jimmer and BYU can make it to the Elite Eight.
