Biyombo gives them another option at center if Zeller slows down a bit or doesn’t play up to par

 Well, Julyan Stone’s contract isn’t guaranteed so by waiving him, Bulls gets more cap space.

 Bulls got involved because Grant who wasn’t going to play was a guarenteed deal and they take on Stone who won’t play and is unguarenteed so they can just waive him.  They basically cleared $2.6mil off their salary.

Biyombo is back to his first team and gives them a younger defensive big than Mozgov.

I wonder if the Magic will stretch and waive Mozgov as he likely won’t see much playing time unless Vucevic is traded for say a PG and they use him as veteran big/mentor type.

If Mozgov was waived, he’d likely get picked up by a contender as a bench big option.

The Bulls tidy up their cap space a bit giving them a few extra options.

 As expected Stone already waived.  Now Bulls have 16mil in cap space.

 kind of a big wash all around. Hornets get possibly a slight upgrade going from mozgov to biyombo but have to pay about 1.5 mill extra for it, possibly little more if they go over the cap.

magic break even salary wise so maybe they feel grant and/or mozgov can help a little more then biyombo would have

My biggest thought is that the only explanation for why Mozgov will have made $90 million when this contract is up is that he has access to pee tapes.

 Nice trade by all teams.

The Magic trade Biyombo who was their highest paid player at 17 mil this year and a 17 mil player option next year that he will opt into. He was not going to get minutes this year aside from injuries due to having Vucevic and drafting Bamba unless of course they trade Vucevic which doesnt see likely at this point until the trade deadline when Bamba establishes himself a bit more.

The Magic recieve Jerian Grant who averaged around 9 points and 5 assists for the first half of the season while the Bulls were competitive before being thrown in the very back end of the rotation after the Allstar break so the Bulls could lose more games. He played ritty defence and was a pass first player PG and will likely start for the Magic allowing Augistin to come off the bench. He will be a good PG to help develop Isaac and Bamba until they draft or sign their PG of the future.

The Hornets get Biyombo in a similar move to the one the Atlanta Hawks made by acquiring Dedmon last year after getting rid of Dwight Howard. Biyambo is probably a poor mans Dwight Howard on the court but he is a much better teammate and will be comfortable playing a lesser role. I think the plan is to develop Hernangomez and Kaminsky at the C position while using Biyambo as the guy to set an example defensively to fight out for minutes.

Bulls save money they have Lavine, Dunn and Payne that can all play PG and owe it to Jerian Grant to send him to a situation where he will be getting minutes after the good job he did there.

Jerian Grant’s problem is that he doesn’t have natural point guard handling skills to deal with heavy pressure that will come from starting/late game/playoff situations. If Orlando wants to use him as their 2019 Shelvin Mack, I think he will be more than fine in splitting minutes with Augustin.

Biyombo is who he always been. If a team needs him to block a few shots and help on the glass, he will be fine. Asking for anything more, or production that approaches his salary, is asking too much. The problem with Charlotte is that they can ever get away with Kidd-Gilchrist and Biyombo on the court at the same time for more than a O/D specialty set.

I hope Jerian Grant doesn’t get many minutes with this team. His handles are maybe the worst among all point guards in the league because its so high, especially with his off-hand. If he faces pressure defense, he 9 times out of ten picks the ball up or drives and forces up a bad shot. He’s also a very inconsistent shooter. I’d rather have Isiah Briscoe get his minutes honestly.

 So the Bulls who signed Felicio to a 4 year $32 million deal are now suddenly concerned about a $2.9 million salary?  Doesn’t paint a good picture of the decision making process.
