My boy could do those do the same things at 8. He’s 11 now ands unfortunately the coaching sucks … and most of the team refuses to hustle.

I was laughing when he made that step-back jumper. That was absurd.

Apparently not many people around here get to to see any good youth sports. There are more talented kids out there then you would ever dream. They separate themselves from the pack plenty early. There’s a 8th grade point guard from Apple Valley, Mn playing HS varsity( 3rd team all-state) last year that Tubby Smith has already offered a scholarship.

You have to be pretty damn good to play varsity in middle school. The last guy that I can recall doing that is O.J. Mayo.

I don’t blame coaches for going after these kids while they’re in 7th/8th grade, as perverse as it sounds. You have to get an edge over the competition.

Andrew Wiggins played varsity and he was in the 8th grade last year. Here’s footage of him playing for his varsity high school team.

If they are good enough to play varsity why hold them back? Thumping on lesser comp. won’t help them further develope.
The last MN kid to do it was Kahlid El Amin.
