Point Guards – 2009 6th Overall Jonny Flynn, 2004 13th Overall Sebastian Telfair, 2003 14th Overall Luke Ridnour

Shooting Guards – 2010 4th Overall Wesley Johnson, 2007 7th Overall Corey Brewer, 2009 28th Overall Wayne Ellington

Small Forwards – 2008 2nd Overall Michael Beasley, 2005 6th Overall Martell Webster, 2010 30th Overall Lazar Hayward

Power Forwards – 2008 5th Overall Kevin Love, Undrafted Anthony Tolliver

    Centers – 2003 2nd Overall Dark Milicic, 2008 23rd Overall Kosta Koufos, 2008 31st Overall Nikola Pekovic

Am I the only one whose noticed that Minnesota has two second overall, one fourth overall, one fifth overall, two sixth overall, one seventh overall, one thirteenth, and one fourteenth overall picks. That’s nine guys on one roster picked in the lottery. Add on Ellington at 28, Hayward at 30, Pekovic at 31, and Tolliver who went undrafted and your stacked with high draft picks. I just thought it was interesnting that a team with so many players drafted so high could be sitting at 10-33.

That’s the reason why……They have no vets on that squad.

The key is drafting players that compliment each other.  The Bulls and Thunder have done a very good job drafting players that worked well together.  Each one of those young teams have key players have been drafted by the organization as well as a few parts acquired through free agency and trades, but it’s not just about getting good players its having the mind to predict how they’ll mesh.

Minnesota drafted 2 point guards back to back and then picked Wes Johnson at #4 this year after Corey Brewer broke out and then proceeded to trade for Mike Beasley and Martell Webster.  Stock piling talented young small forwards isn’t going to help your team win any games, nor is it going to give them the minutes needed to flourish and establish solid team roles.

Even the Clippers had vets when they had the youngest squad in the league…….Brand, Miles, Richardson, Odom, Maggette, Dooling,Wilcox………Vets-Cherokee Parks, Sean Rooks, Eric Piatkowski

Some lotto picks aren’t as good as where they are picked at as well.

Clippers have 8 lotto picks and are the 3rd worst team in the west

Having a bunch of lotto picks that are pretty young usually isn’t a good thing

Maybe this is why Kevin Love’s team doesn’t have a winning record??

“True story, memphis tyga23, The oldest guy listed is an 8 year vet and 7 year bench warmer. I’ve never seen a team that un experienced win that many games.”

True story. Portland is playing Aldridge 25, Matthews 24, Miller 34, Fernandez 25, Przybilla 31, Batum 22, Mills 22, Cunningham 23, and Johnson 21. Funny how that much youth can make the playoffs in the West.

True story. The 2007 and 2008 Jazz were either the youngest or second youngest teams in the league when they were winning 50 games.

True story. Oklahoma City is nothing but young. Their “veteran” presence of Nick Collison barely plays and is 30 years old. Durant 22, Westbrook 22, Green 24, Harden 21, Ibaka 21, Krstic 27, Sefolosha 26, Maynor 23, and White 24.

True story. Young teams can win, but they can’t be handed roles and allowed to have their deficiencies ignored to amass empty statistics.

you have to build through the draft. how many major trades in the last 10-15 years brought Chips? KG to Celtics. How many key free agents brought Chips to there respected teams in the last 10-15 years. Shaq & even then they drafted a SG From philly and a PG from a tiny school. So you see you have to draft. The only Team to win a Chip without a major player that they drafted recently were the Piston’s. 3 years in the lottery should be all it takes to turn your chise around. The Wolves and Clippers are Lousy franchises.

Terrible management. There is a reason KG was never able to get any good young running mates. Minny will get 1 maybe 2 things right out of 20-30. Sad really, waste of space IMO. They need to try and trade young talent for some young-ish ESTABLISHED vets. I don’t mean of Ridnour’s nature either.

cant blame this management for the team not building around KG. Kahn was not the manager when KG was there.

They need a tougher coach who will make them defend. The reason the Thunder are doing so well is because their coach is demanding about D, so that even with an undersized PF and no true C they lead the League in blocks last season. That said, I see a lot of potential in this Wolves squad if they can get some consistency in their rotations they’ll be a lot better. Beasley and Love are great pieces, but the coach needs to sort out some better D.

Actually perez, you can blame this group for the KG issues. For one, owner’s keep bringing in the same kind of craappy scouts and gm’s. Secondly, the point was that it’s the history of the T-Wolves to have bad drafting and signings. Third, that same group of guys that couldn’t get anything around KG, are the same people who couldn’t get anything in return for KG. Look at this roster, there should have been at least 1 legit star out of that. But no, the key pieces were either garbage, released, or traded away for almost nothing like Al Jefferson. Talk about poor management. It’s like a domino effect that just keeps occurring. As many lotto picks as they have had in Minny, the best they could come out with was Kevin Love and MAYBE Ricky Rubio. Sad. They should seriously stop drafting duplicate talent, and players who absolutely DO NOT fit the offensive system. You let these guys actually get out and run playing the open ended triangle like Jerry West led Lakers played, and they would be a lot more appealing to watch, and probably actually win more games. Would definitely be more enticing for Rubio to come over if he knew he wasn’t going have limitations and was gonna be able to get out and run.

How many teams actually get good players in return for there stars getting traded?..Toronto didn’t get much, Cleveland, Twolves. Its no surprise this team wasn’t gonna be good this or next year. They even said as much. Its not liek they were the Clippers or Golden State thinking they were gonna make the playoffs this year but ended up in the same place they have been year after year
