Wow, just read by Chad Ford he’d be a first round pick possibly this year, and one team would take him in the late lottery!?

I knew he had a shot at the NBA, because of his toughness,EXCELLENT defense, and ability to run a team, but late lottery? Thats a shocker.

Did anyone else think he was lottery material?

Depends on how he does in the rest of the tourney, if he continues to play well and OSU wins a national championship then I dont see why he cant be a first round pick.

Not lottery, but first round definitely. He has good size, and is an unbelievable defender.

     PROOF OR GTFO!

I really reaaaally dont think hed say this. I always had the opinion that he’d be one of the classic 4 year players who overachieved and made himself into a 2nd round pick.  He’s too small and doesnt look like an NBA player to me, doesnt score it that well.. this is surprising if you have proof.

I completely agree with HI its Ben. I can’t believe people think this guy is an NBA prospect. I also thought of him as a "classic" 4 year college player who the fans fall in love with because of his hard worker 110% attitude on the court. But, an NBA PG? I’ll admit I haven’t watched many OSU games, but when I watched them play Cincy and Kansas he doesn’t seem to do anything but stand in the same spot and pass it off. He can hit open jump shots, but I don’t think this guy has an offensive game to speak of. Guys like this don’t succeed in the NBA unless they are bigger and more athletic.

Lol I told you man, I wouldn’t make that up specially not about Aaron Craft.

I’m with you I thought he would be a 4year player, and prolly play overseas after OSU, never thought lottery pick and Aaron Craft would ever be in the same sentence.

Some people say he is the best on the ball defender in college. In the tournament a lot of the other PGs don’t seem to want to challenge him, they just find another way to attack OSU. But on offense, Craft seems not very assertive. Of course, feeding Sullinger all day is a pretty good strategy. Craft looks for his shot a bit more when Sully is off the court.

Sometimes a reputation for great on the ball defense can be over-rated. A guy can get that reputation and it can just stick with him. I don’t watch enough of OSU to have opinion in this though. But I throw that out.

Of the guys that the Grizzlies should pick I had Aaron Craft in the top 5 even though I didn’t think that he would come out.  But, it is a weak point guard draft.  As I said, I would have him rated as the second best pure point guard in this draft behind Kendall Marshall.  Maybe next year we get more point guards so he might not get picked as high.  … I think he would make a good backup as a defender and game manager.

I could see him going later first to early second round.  There are already lots of point guards in the league, but the Grizzlies could use a solid backup pg and the Trailblazers could use a guy to go along with Raymond Felton.

I don’t think he will ever be a top 5 pick, maybe not even top 10 (his size is what it is and he isn’t a huge scorer or a stats guy) so if OSU can shock the world and win it all or if Aaron Craft has an all-around great game against Kansas then Craft’s draft stock could be as high as it could get.  I think late first would be a solid projection and I am not sure if he could do THAT much better next year.  Kabongo is staying for another year, there are always a lot of little guys like Seth Curry or Joe Jackson, who knows what Teague will do, and I think that next year’s draft has some promising talent to it.  … it might end up being better (and deeper) than advertised.

I’ve heard people compare him to Mike Conley and Eric Snow….He’s a good defender but doesnt do a great job yet of creating plays for team mates..Thats something he needs to stick around and work on..If he comes out this year he’ll get drafted but in the 2nd round, if he sticks around and work on his game he can be a top 25 pick in 2013…..

    youngdave,

on the Who Should Your Team Draft thread, at 23 I wanted Memphis to take Doron Lamb as the first option.

My top five guys to look at were Lamb first, then Darius Miller, Fab Melo, Terrance Ross (but he might go higher), and Aaron Craft since we could use a good backup point guard.  I also thought that the Grizzlies should look at Jeff Withey and Draymond Green (solid skill set, great leader, just a guy you have to at least take a look at).

Overall, I think Aaron Craft would be a late first/early second round pick.  But, I can’t ever see him being a top 5 pick.  MAYBE in two years he would be a late lottery pick but that would be a risk.  The draft is lacking many true point guards, and OSU is in the Final Four so his stock may be at its highest.  If Craft has a great Final Four then maybe the Lakers want to look at him or even the Thunder (use him at point with Westbrook at the 2 guard some to spice it up.  it would also make Maynor expendable to trade for another scorer or a solid big man).   … Denver and Portland are two young teams who could use depth at point guard.  … I don’t really see Craft moving up that much next year.  He is a team player and a pass first guy who plays good defense.  He isn’t a speed guy or a stats guy so what you see is what you get.  Not sure how good OSU would be without Jared Sullinger either if he decides to come out.

Craft said he wanted to be a surgeon I never thought he would go to nba or be drafted but if he had the chance he might take it make some quick money to pay for med school.

Craft could defiantly be a first round pick in a couple years.

    • He is an elite (Rajon Rondo type) defender who is suprisingly quick.
    • He is legit 6’2" which is defiantly tall enough to play point in the NBA.
    • He doesn’t score a lot because he has 3 top scoring options he has to distriubute the ball to, but he is very talented at getting to the rim and will take a larger portion of the scoring load next year.
    • He has a off the chart basketball IQ, I mean academic all-american as a sophmore.

His only true weakness is his inability to shoot at a high percentage which is correctable.  I’m not saying he should be a lottery pick this year or anything, but if he improves his shooting and increases his scoring load, I could see him be a mid first round pick in a couple of years.

no way. tyshawn taylor is a better prospect than him and they barely have him getting drafted. if a team took him in the late lottery i’d forever look down on that organization

I agree that I thought he’d be a four year guy, but why wouldn’t you take him in the 1st now? His defense is exceptional, he has good size, he’s very efficient and he’s a solid shooter. A PG with size who can defend, play smart and make open shots? Sounds good to me.

No way would any team take Aaron Craft in the first round. He’s may be a tenacious defender and a solid passing PG, but he’s no threat at all as a scorer and is small by NBA standards.. He would be a great addition over in Europe but I don’t see him having much of a future in the NBA. Craft is quick and shifty but I don’t see him having that one factor of his game that would convince a team to take a chance on him. Considering he has a 3.9 GPA I don’t think he’ll have any trouble getting a job after college.

The argument that Damian Lillard is a shocker, not Aaron Craft. What is the argument against Aaron Craft being  worthy of lottery discussion?

Chad Ford is full of sh!t. His mock is terrible and talk like that is what makes good kids who need seasoning think about leaving for the League. No way Craft is late lottery, he is the best defender I ‘ve seen since Ricky Moore at UCONN and maybe breifly Lighty early in his OSU careeer. He has to work on his jumper though he can barely shot accuarate college three. I will say to though he has the intangibles and leadership ability to handle the League.

I think Craft is a great prospect. He plays great defense against and runs the team. Makes smart decisions and doesn’t turn the ball over foolishly

He’s not too small. At 6′ 2" and a stocky build its hard to not see him in the league. 4 years at Ohio State…..? You guys really thought that with all the recruiting Thad Matta has been doing that he didn’t have intell that NBA scouts believed Craft could leave early…shame on you guys. He may not be flashy but he is a steady proven player..

So you’ll take a scrawny defensive big man who can’t finish through body contact in the lottery (Henson) but you won’t take a PG in a PG heavy lead who guards ballhandlers to the point that they dribble off their feet??  SMH I’d never trust you to be GM of my team

I doubt he ever starts, which is what you want in the lottery, but there’s not much reason he can’t be Earl Watson and lead a backup unit with his toughness and defense on a team that prizes that… like Memphis.
