I saw a interview in which he was asked which player he models his game after, and he responded Carmelo. I really don’t see his shooting every approaching that level. He reminds me of a present day Stacey Augmon. What does everyone think of this? Does anyone else have a comparison that they think is more spot on?

I think Augmon is good when comparing his defensive ability. He has that kinda versatility on D. I’m too young to remember a young Stacey Augmon, but I think Augmon was able to actually play PG-SF offensively as well. Aminu can only play SF/PF offensively. My comparison for Al-Farouq Aminu is a young Josh Smith.

I made a comparison a while ago to Darius Miles, back when Miles still had potential.

I think he is like a shawn Marrion with not as much range. He can be a great defender and can post up a lil and get rebounds. He just needs to extend his range.

Did anyone catch that interview post w/ Aminu “Dont confuse laid back with lazy”. He said in the interview “things come easy to me”. This really scares me as he will need to work to develop especially at the NBA level. If he hasnt had to work in college because he is laid back, than who says he will now? Plus you need that edge in the NBA, you cant be laid back youll get dismantled.

Because of this, I see Aminu as the “Marvin” williams bust. What I mean by that is he will be servicable, but not for a top 7 or so pick.

Does anyone believe he will be the leading “bust”?

Nothing like Darius Miles at all.

Miles, Matrix, and J Smoove are all freak athletes, which is not aminu. Hes a good athlete but not in the category of those three.

More to making a comparison than saying someone has “freak athleticism” while the other one doesn’t. Aminu is probably the level right under a freak in terms of his athleticism anyway, it’s not like we’re comparison him to guys that are just far and away better athletes.

Aminu is an extremely unique player and in my opinion one of a kind

He is most definitely a freak athlete not in the sense that he jumps high and runs fast.He has freak of nature motor and endurance and will bang and push himself all game long at an un paralled rate. His athletisism is above average as well and his versatility is also freakish being above average in many different categories.

Aminu reminds me of Lub Rishard Mbah with alot more skill athletisism and upside.

He is definitely a freak in terms of speed and agility for someone his size and length.

Good way to piss people off is throw lines out like ur last one lol. Either way, I am not high on Aminu and don’t see him as anything more than a guy going btween 10-14 imo.

Aminu is the only player in the top ten that I’m more than 80% certain he is going to bust. I don’t think there are many good comparisons for him. If he can develop a jumper I think his best case can be Luol Deng. If he doesn’t he reminds me more of Earl Clark. The only thing he does well is rebounding. However, he will move to SF in the NBA. The PF in college to SF in NBA rebounding numbers don’t really translate (See: Michael Beasley). Other than that I don’t really see what he does that is impressive. He can’t shoot and is a poor passer. He is also a poor ball handler and turns it over a lot for a SF. So he doesn’t have the skills for a SF and is only 6’8 210, so he doesn’t have nearly the size for PF. I just don’t see why he’s so highly regarded.

I think he does has bust potential but at the same time, you can work on your shooting. Bruce Bowen who could not shoot a lick became a great corner 3 point shooter. Aminu does has a body similiar to Deng but not his overall game. He has shown ability to handle the rock and if he adds a decent 15 foot j and maybe a floater he will be tough to guard because he has decent first step and he is strong an explosive to finish.

the perfect comparison is bigger Gerald Wallace, they very similar: great rebounding, the same athleticism, very like at offensive and defensive style and skills.

I agree with Sheltwon that shooting is far easier to improve upon than athleticism. Boozer actually sticks out in my mind as someone is who absolutely deadly from 15-17 feet right now, but couldn’t throw it in the ocean in college. Not that Aminu and Boozer are alike, but you catch my drift.

aminu has no mid range? i saw him play a few times get his body on his defender around the foul line somtimes closer in the triple threat stance do a move in knock the shot down ….back to back somtimes ppl were comparing him to loul because his body and hes mid range and to marvin willamins because he doesnt play at a loul speed at all but he use his body more then loul and marvin…thats why its so hard to compare him

i believe he really has good touch and really good work ethic to become good jump shooter…talking about versatility his style is more of Marion than Smith imo..
so my comparison would be – Luol Deng w/ Marion’s defense&transition game
