Now that the NBA awards have all been handed out how to do you guys think the All-NBA and All-Defensive teams will end up?

    My predictions.

    All-NBA 1st team

    C Dwight Howard

    F Lebron James

    F Kevin Durant

    G Chris Paul

    G Kobe Bryant

    All-NBA 2nd Team

C Andrew Bynum – Finally healthy and proved his worth with 18.7 PPG, 11.8 RPG and 1.9 BPG

F Kevin Love – 26 PPG and 13.3 RPG and the TWolves looked solid till losing Rubio.

F Blake Griffin – Do I think he’s elite yet? Not close, but he was more productive than almost every other forward in the league this year with 20.7 PPG on 55 FG%, 10.9 RPG and 3.2 APG

G Russell Westbrook – Really emerging as a top player in the league, 23.6 PPG, 5.5 APG, 4.6 RPG and 1.7 SPG

G Tony Parker – The straw that stirred the drink for the first place Spurs. Averaged 18.3 PPG and 7.7 APG but his impact on the game goes beyond his stats.

All-NBA 3rd Team – this is where things get really hazy for me

C Marc Gasol – He was a consistant rock for the Grizzlies on both ends of the court and really shouldered the load when ZBO was injured. Strongly considered Roy Hibbert, Tyson Chnadler, Al Jefferson (19.2 PPG and 9.6 RPG for a surprisingly competitive Jazz team) and Marcin Gortat here as well

F Carmelo Anthony – A down year for him and really struggled at the beginning but when all was said and done he still ended up 4th in the league in scoring among forwards at 22.6 PPG and had a career high in APG with 3.6

F Josh Smith – Arguably the best player on the Hawks this season. The stat stuffer averaged 18.8 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 3.9 APG, 1.4 SPG and 1.7 BPG. LaMarcus Aldridge, Dirk and Rudy Gay got consideration here as well

G Dwyane Wade – Only played 49 games but still an elite SG in the league with 22.1 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 4.6 APG. 1.7 SPG and 1.3 BPG

G Rajon Rondo – The ideal team oriented PG had 11.9 PPG, 11.7 APG, 4.8 RPG and pesky defense with 1.8 SPG

    All-Defensive 1st Team

    C Tyson Chandler

    F Serge Ibaka

    F Lebron James

    G Tony Allen

    G JRue Holiday

    All-Defensive 2nd Team

    C Dwight Howard

    F Josh Smith

    F Andre Iguodala

    G Paul George

    G Chris Paul

    No Rondo for All-Defensive team?

Also I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Iman Shumpert on this year’s team. If not this year, then most definitely in the years to come.

I think he deserves recognition for how he plays defense, especially on Kobe this series when the refs arent blatently giving the Lakers the game

Get read for D. Favors to make the 1rst all defensive team next year and every year after that. He really should have gotten some looks this year. By far the best defender on a playoff team.

Great picks ItsDwightHoward.  The guard spot is loaded.  You could make a case for Westbrook for being first team, or Tony Parker, but no arguments here.  I also like Josh Smith being 3rd team all-NBA.  Hopefully he makes the all-star team next year.

Third team forward is probably between Melo, Garnett maybe, Aldridge, and perhaps Tim Duncan.  But, Melo was the Knicks’ number one option and turned in the 3rd best performance this year by a small forward (behind LBJ and Durant, and ahead of Luol Deng, Granger, and Gay).  Luol Deng could actually get some support for 3rd team all-NBA.

Good defensive team picks too.  Sometimes the Defensive Player of the Year has gotten put on 2nd team all-Defense.  I think it was Hakeem one year.  Tyson and Dwight are the top two no brainers to anchor the 1st and 2nd team.  Like the LeBron pick.  Tony Allen is solid, as are some other guards.  I will take your word for it that Jrue is a good defender.  Haven’t watched much Sixers this year.  Iggy might make 1st team if they list him as a guard.  … I think Rondo could go go somewhere here.  Maybe instead of Paul George or Chris Paul.  CP3 is a tough player, and damn smart who gets a ton of steals, but Mike Conley played great against him, and Tony Parker looks like he is having a good series against him now.  … haven’t seen lockdown defense from him this playoffs.

Back to Josh Smith.  If Josh Smith gets 3rd team All-NBA (like he should) and 2nd team All-Defense (like he should) then he has had one heck of a year.  Can’t think of any other guys to do that, and still not make an all-star team.  Look for him to take Joe Johnson’s "perennial Hawks spot" on the East team next year.

LeBron finishes a great regular season by being MVP and being all-defensive first team.  No arguments here either.  The best two-way player in the game and the face of the NBA deserved it.  … LBJ will get some heat if Miami doesn’t advance to the NBA Finals.  But, in this fluky season the best TEAMS might go to the Finals this June.  Spurs in the West, a little bit more experienced, a little deeper, a little more savvy, a little bit better coached, and a little bit better inside.  Thunder might have to wait until next year.  The Heat can still win the East but Indy is doing well.  Sixers and Celtics are strong too, meaning that the East is WIDE OPEN.  Pacers and Sixers are deeper and younger than the Heat which could give them the advantage, with the Celtics being a little more well-rounded.

If we do get a Spurs vs. Pacers/Sixers/Celtics Finals it will mean that only Tony Parker and Rajon Rondo perhaps will represent the All-NBA teams in this June’s Finals.  LBJ, Durant, Kobe, Westbrook, CP3, Blake, and Andrew Bynum might all be watching the Finals from home.  For this year at least the best TEAM might possibly beat out the best PLAYERS.

The lists look very good outside of Jrue Holiday on the all defense first team. I have watched just about every Sixers game this year and he is an above average defender, however he got lit up by most point guards that can get in the paint. He has the potential to be on the all defense team in a couple years but he isn’t even their best perimeter defender right now, that is why you see Evan Turner guarding Rondo not Holiday. Rondo would most likely be a good replacement for him on that first team.

Josh Smith can make the all NBA third team and second team all defense but can’t make an all star game. Get this man in a uniform will be appreciate him. Someone mentioned a trade him to NJ for Lopez. Don’t think it happens but I would like to see him in a role like that as a running mate with Deron Williams. When us this guy going to get some love?

Does anyone else think Bymun might make 1st team over Howard since he’s been hurt so much this year?

      ———————————————————————————————————————-

Howard played 54 games, only 6 fewer than Bynum. Frankly I almost put him on the first team but then again I’m pretty biased when it comes to D12.

Yeah, Rondo will probably get first or second team but Holiday is a pretty damn good defender and his size gives him an advantage on guys like Rondo and CP3. As far as CP3 getting burned by a few PGs in the playoffs, every defender in the league gets burned some games. Rondo got beaten repeatedly by Jeff Teague in a game this season and even John Lucas III got the better of Lebron James down the stretch in the March Miami-Chicago game. Paul’s not a lockdown guy but he gets alot of steals and he’s pesky in the passing lanes. Really there aren’t any true lockdown PGs out there at the moment. Paul tends to do pretty well though when it comes to voting for the All-Defensive teams, much like Kobe he always seems to get major consideration.

Good shout outs for some of the young guys. There are a ton of top young perimeter defenders right now in the league! Guys like Bradley, Shumpert, George, Leonard and Holiday should all be getting some nominations over the next few years.

Any chance Kawhi Leonard crashes the party on one of the defensive teams? He’s been doing really well this year, and I know at the very least he’ll be on one of the all rookie teams, but do you think he has a shot at an all-defensive team; and if not this year, then in the future?

In the future he surely does but this year he didn’t get enough minutes. Plus the NBA isn’t too quick to put rookies on the all-defense teams.

Avery Bradley should make it in a couple years, Iman Shumpert will make some and it’s hard to not put Sefolosha after the job he’s done all year on players like Kobe

I’m confused how Marc Gasol makes the All-NBA Third Team over Tim Duncan, who put up better numbers in less minutes.

Not only that, of the players you considered, Tim Duncan’s name wasn’t even mentioned.

    Paul, Kobe, Durant, James, Dwight

    Parker, Westbrook, Love, Griffin/Dirk, Bynum

    Rondo, Wade, Melo, Griffin/Dirk/Duncan/Garnett, Garnett/Chandler/Duncan

The guys in Italics are the guys I ultimatly chose.

And Indiana Basketball, I remember in the earlier thread where you were the first to put Duncan and Garnett on your All NBA teams, but that was because you left Love and Griffin off your teams, I also left Griffin off but I had to include Love, no way I could’ve left him off, I was also hesitant to leave Nash off as well, he single handedly almost led his team to a playoff berth.

He considered Gortat over Duncan…I did not notice that until now. Timmy is always forgotten.

Whoever mentioned Kobe for All-D is probably correct. He has rarely played consistent 2-way ball in some time, but he gets the lifetime achievement award for his D.

If Iggy doesn’t get 1st team I will honestly be surprised. He was actually my pick for DPOY.
