He’s finally taking good shots, attacking the basket, and not settling for jumpers.

Is Amare starting to show signs of life? This year he has been pretty awful, we can all agree on this. But if you look at him month by month look what happens. Mainly the last two columns.

    17.3 ppg 6.0 rpg 0.7 apg 3.0 topg .403 FG%

    17.6 ppg 8.4 rpg 1.7 apg 2.9 topg .433 FG%

    17.0 ppg 7.6 rpg 0.8 apg 2.3 topg .478 FG%

    18.2 ppg 8.5 rpg 0.7 apg 1.5 topg .533 FG%

He’s getting far more efficent each month and scoring a bit more while cutting down his amount of shots. He’s starting to get back to the line more often as well. He might still have awful knees and isn’t the guy he was last year, but it seems like he’s beginning to adjust pretty well.

The thing that I saw which impressed me the most in Amare is that is looks like he finally plays some defense. People often talked that he played no defense and I totally agreed with those opinions but it cant be unnoticed that he finally committed to playing defense. I think thats his and Carmelo effort on the defensive end of the court is why the Knicks are winning right now. Thats the change between D’Antoni Knicks and the Woodson Knicks, the biggest one of course.

He’s not the 25 ppg Amare we saw last year, but if you put him back into that situation he was in last year being the focal point of the offense, he still gets you 21-22 a game.

I think he is still playing himself into game shape.  A lot happen last year and also this year that have slowed him down.  Next year if he gets the touches he will be just like the Amare from last year.
