Reports are saying that the Washington wizards are now showing strong interest in Rudy Gay and may build a package around young guard Bradley Beal to get him. Does this make sense? John Wall just came back and we have yet to see how goodbf running mates they can be together, by the Rudy Gay isn’t a guy to put your team over the hump. I guess Washington likes to trade for overpaid guys. http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2013/01/washington-wizards-reportedly-interested-in-rudy-gay/

Washington does seem to like to trade for overpaid guys, but they’re likely to be trading at least one of them out to make the numbers work. The sad thing is they were rumored to have been able to acquire James Harden for the 3rd pick in the 2012 draft and some other pieces and declined to do it. So if they turn around and trade Bea,l who they took with the third pick, for a lesser and older talent in Rudy Gay it seems pretty sad.

I honestly do not think this is such a bad move. Beal has a lot of potential yes, but he hasn’t been filling it up while Wall was out. And I know he is not “that type of player”, but do you really feel good about spending a #3 pick on a guy who’s production relies on another player? Its ok that Wall may make him better, but if Wall is out, or not playing well, you want to know that Beal can carry the load. Again, I would love to have him on my team but understand this from Washington’s stand point:
Gay, while he may be slightly overpaid, he fills a need at sf, and alongside Wall should put up numbers. The Wiz also spent a top pick on Vesely, and they have not given up on him yet, so PF is not a position of need. Gay is also a vet, and Washington desperatley wants to begin contending for a playoff spot. This is the one thing that their former #1, and franchise player, Wall needs to continue his development. Also, Washington will have no lower than a #4 pick this draft, that can be used on a SG with the same, or even more, potential than Beal ie. McLemore, Muhammad, Smart. They can easily replace Beal’s position vs getting a player like Gay in this draft.

I think you make a logical point. But Rudy Gay hasn’t exactly progressed or suggested that he would live up to his sky high potential either. With Beal, it’s just his rookie year and he has shown signs of improving as time goes on. To become a player that can “carry the load” he’ll have to improve upon his handle, which I believe he can do. He’s not an outside threat, and has remained a quite average per minute player. Now some of that can be attributed to injuries and the rise of Conley, Gasol, and Z-Bo, but to tie a franchise up financially for a Rudy Gay when the team already is struggling doesn’t make the best sense. Why not just let Beal and Wall develop and continue to build?

Exactly 220. You turn down a trade for James Harden only to overpay for Rudy Gay? Rudy Gay isn’t going to do anything for this team. The Wizards would be much better off keeping Beal and going after the top pick in the draft.

Trying to play Devil’s Advocate here- But How much of a good fit would Harden and Wall be?
They both need the ball to do what they do best. Lin and Harden is going through the same thing. While Lin is no Wall, both players would handicap the other. This is why Beal “seems” to be a great fit alongside Wall, he does not need the ball. I mean, like before, I would love to have both Harden and Wall on my team 🙂
Sucks for Washington though, no direction.

I don’t believe these reports/rumors…the Wizards organization is dumb but not that dumb deal Beal for Gay. Beal has finally started to come on as of late and they finally have Wall back. Which makes me question the creditably of these sources. Sidenote: Beal’s shooting better than Gay from the field and 3 this month

and found out they were taking Ben McLemore #1. He seems like a better version of Beal all the way around, especially in his shooting percentages. Worse comes to worse you keep Jordan “The Chucker” Crawford or give up Singleton for a shooting guard or try to trade into the first round. The article said Gay was a Baltimore native and that has something to do with it. Its not a terrible idea. But controlling Beal at a low cost for the next 3 years at least at a low cost then 4 more after for the market value of the player, is comforting for the long term future.

Gay will probably be moved for a lottery pick+ in this years draft after the season or for a past lottery pick+ in the last draft. If they only want Beal and pieces and the Wiz doesn’t have to forfeit this up coming pick, I say pull the trigger. I assume Beal and Ariza are the principle parts. If I were the Grizz, I would want Singleton also and if I were the Wiz I would say take Vesely or not at all. Vesely or Singleton, Beal and Ariza work straight up for Gay. I gotta think the Wiz would do this deal and the Grizz would save this 4 million dollars they are so worried about paying in luxury taxes if Singleton was included. They would have a great starting five on paper.

    Wall
    McLemore or Bazz
    Gay
    Nene
    Okafor

I know Gordon and the team is playing well, but I read an article that his relationship with management is still rocky, and that the team is almost willing to move him once his stock is high. Is this true? If so, if Ariza/Beal is dealt for Gay, whould a Okafor/2013 unprotected pick for Gordon be a good move for both sides? N.O. will have 2 top 5 picks this year to solve their gaps at sf and c, and have Okafor’s and his 13 mill expiring contract and a bruiser to pair with Davis in the front court.
!!!!!!!Again- Only saying if the report was true and N.O. wanted to move him.

I agree but let’s say they end up with the #3 pck in this draft and Bazz and BMac went 1st and 2nd(in any order), now what? Lets not put all of our eggs in one basket

In this scenerio- I would rather have Wall-Gay (and a Smart or a Goodwin) over a Wall-Beal-and another rookie. Wall and Gay, you know you have 2 hell of a players to build around. The latter, your hoping that both Beal and the next rookie reach their potentials.

I have to agree with you. I understand people’s concerns over Rudy being older and having a huge contract and not living up to it. But I think in Washington, he will be a 21+ppg player and will be the go to guy. Gay, Wall, and Nene are all bonafide starters in the NBA unlike everyone else on that Wizards roster. You take them, and draft a 2guard in this years draft and you may even be contending for a playoff seed next year. If the rumor is true, I’d do it. It’ll cost, but your team will be better suited to win games.

I doubt the fact that the pick is unprotected would entice them to take back Okafor; not alot of teams value a lottery pick in this years draft. The hornets are actually playing better with Eric Gordon back

Rudy Gay isnt the only Memphis Grizzlie, whose future is up in the air..So are the futures of Zack Randolph,Marc Gasol,Mike Conley & head coach Hollins..Hollins has openly expressed his frustration with new owners,he said he wish the new owner would communicate with the team..His contract expires at the end of the season, and there havent been any word on his future with the team..But he thinks the players deserve to remain 2gether and he deserves an extension….He said the only time he spoke to new owner Robert Pera was on openly night when he went over and introduced himself…….

Randolph has also been on the trading block, but hasnt garnered as much interest as Rudy Gay..Memphis can make some creative moves this season and keep all of their core players..But they are in a small market with the 5th highest payroll and are 4 million dollars over the cap and as repeat offenders they’ll have to pay 7 million next season,if they keep all of their top salary players..But someone has to be moved..

As a season ticket holder,i hope nobody is sent packing, but if they do,let it be during the off season..And get 1 of the highly regarded shooting guards that’ll be available in this summer draft in some type of package…..

i oftne have said the grizz should trade rudy and that contract its not knocking rudy as i think hed be great with wall as a 1 two punch beal would fill that scoring 2 spot the grizz need and they are out rudys contract saving lots of cap room imo trade makes sense for both teams
