This guy just keeps getting better and better….He had a career high night aginst the knicks..with 27 rebounds tonight. Also, Im noticing his post moves are getting better and better…his stats for tonight was 17, 26, 3blks, 2 stl,  on 6-9 fg made, 5-7 ft made…He’s been on a tear since the ASW..

He’s a monster, who will keep getting better. He will probably win multiple rebounding titles in his career.

As good as Anthony Davis has been, I’m sticking with my prediction that Drummond will have a better career when it’s all said and done. Watching those two battle over the years is going to be a lot of fun, you could see in the Rising Stars game that Drummond takes that match-up personally.

This could be such an amazing rivalry for years. Both 20 years old, both already playing at an all star level. As soon as they start winning more games it should be epic.

Davis is gonna be great.  But…I remember before the college season started and everyone said they would take Drummond first.  then by the end of the year, Davis and UK had a stellar year and Drummond didnt.  then people said no way would they take Drummond #1 overall.

we got negged to Bolivia by still having faith that Drummond could end up having the better career.  I always say, college and pro are two totally different games…but the rule forcing these kids to go to college has caused many a stock to drop.

The Pistons really need to improve their roster and coaching this offseason! With a good team around him this Guy could average Shaq like numbers!

i was lucky enough to be at the game tonight, and andre played like a beast.  he had a few plays i think in the 3rd there where he had a huge block and then 2 buckets on the next 2 possesions, one of them being an and 1. he also was decent from the stripe tonight too.

Good to see those boards.  I put $2 on him at 25-1 to win the rebounding title.  DeAndre Jordan needs to slow down on boards though.

let’s not just pick on Ross here.  he is gonna be a good player.  but I would rather have had Drummond than anyone besides Davis.  he is gonna be better than all those guys that were picked before him.  what surprised me was I really thought the Kings were gonna grab him at 5.

people wonder why Dumars hasnt lost his job yet….picks like Monroe and Drummond have been saving him.

It’s funny how peoples start to like him cause he’s putting up huge numbers, if you’re a true bball fan, since his high school days, you could see that this guy was going to be a BEAST, but not that fast though.

Turns out to be a beast in the pros though to be fair. Plus HS was only like 3 years ago.

All that aside he has been really impressive and that includes his ability to stay focused in a sloppy situation in Detroit

between he, Davis, Favors and Cousins there are some really game changing front court players on the rise

I’m sorry, I don’t wanna be that guy, he’s great, he’s already the best rebounder in the league, he has outstanding physical tools and with some more experiencing he’ll become a very good rim protector, but…can you explain me please what post moves you see getting better and better? I mean specifically, jump hook, footwork, turnaround jumper, what are we talking about? Last night he had 6 field goals made, a tip dunk, a layup after a pick and roll, a fast break dunk, a alley oop and two drives against Stoudemire (which is not fair). Ok, on one of those two drives he started with his back to the basket and made a spin move to blow by Stoudemire. Nor did I see him scoring with low post moves in his last few games. I don’t think he’s ever going to be a low post scorer and he probably doesn’t need to, with those physical tools he’s going to be a terrific finisher and he’d be better suited for pick and roll or drive and dish situations. Amare never had back to the basket moves and he was a dominant scorer. Ok, he had a nice shooting touch and could hit mid range jumpers, but I think nobody will ever ask Drummond to be as dominant a scorer as Amare was, if he develops as a defender like he could and should (while Amare has always been a liability on that side of the ball). He could very well be a 15-20 ppg scorer on pick and roll, drive and dish and garbage points if they have him playing with a good pick and roll ball handler and surround him with shooters to spread the floor.

I see your point…in iter words… you are saying that he could be a more athletic version of Tyson Chandler, right?

      Cant say I disagree.

Somehow. I think he’s already a lot better than Chandler as a finisher and pick and roll target. A lot stronger. He has a really low usg% yet he manages to get 12-13 ppg. A monster on the offensive glasses and that helps. The Pistons don’t play many pick and rolls for him, they have a lot of inefficient low post ISO-s for Monroe or Smith and other ISO-s on the perimer, not to mention all the time they just fail to run anything and end up jacking contested long 2. Plus no shooters around and the lanes constantly clogged with Monroe or Smith. I think if they had a stretch 4 and at least two competent shooters on the perimeter it would be pretty hard to guard a pick and roll involving him. That could give him the chance to score at least 3 or 4 ppg more. Chandler was never such a liability as a foul shooter though.

Also, he has a long way to go to become nearly as good as Chandler on defense. He has all the potential, because he’s big, strong, athletic, long, has good timing on blocks, can move his feet, but right now he’s a weak defensive player, when he has to switch on perimeter guy he always tries to reach instead of moving his feet, he tries to block every shot and jumps out of fakes (I guess he’s the only player in the league who jumps for a Valanciunas’ pump fake 20 feet away from the basket) and his position, timing on rotations and understanding of defensive schemes are all below average right now. It’s ok, he’s really young and has all the time to learn all that stuff, so it’s not that big deal, but he has to work a lot to become as good as Chandler on defense.

So yeah somehow like Chandler, but with a bigger impact on offense and let’s see if he can get as good on defense. I have quite a few doubts he’ll ever be a dominant player, like, a top 10 player in the league, I don’t see great feel for the game and while he’s already very good I haven’t seen big improvements in his offensive game from last year. Of course Detroit has to build on him and he has the potential to be very very good, but I’d take the Brow over him any day.

I know it’s popular to say i said it back then but really.. I had him ALL year long as a #2 prospect in that years draft and he even surprassing my expectations..

I mean he is 20 and will be 20 until August.. he is a KID still..

    7feet 300pound athletic super mobile KID..that’s rare..

Seeing him now having that hunger and keeping getting better so fast it’s no reason why he can’t average like 16-17boards somewhere in his prime..or 3bpg..or 2spg.. he is DPOY waiting to happen (as is Anthony Davis)

no if only he would get better on his post game they would give him more touches and Andre would have more confidence..and there we would start to see signs of those HS mixtapes where he crosses over people, passess no looks and so on..

    hope he will

Those blocks on Tyson Chandler and Melo, too. Plus the steals. You could see, he was pretty exhausted by the end of the game. Remember when people were concerned about his "motor"? Don’t hear much about that anymore.

He isn’t really 7 feet, but that nitpicking…

I am so excited to see two big men in Davis and Drummond (really three with Love’s continued dominance) becoming the young stars in the league. It’s been a slew of point guards and wings that have made the ascension to superstardom (again, outside of Love), and seeing the return of the dominant post player is something the game has been lacking.

While Davis would be more of a screen and roll, pick and pop type, Drummond could develop a legit post game. Good feet, soft hands, excellent center of gravity and massive strength. He just has to learn to lean a bit, then pull the Shaq drop step (one of the most underrated NBA moves in history, how he always finished with his lead shoulder and posterior completely sealing his man off) and Drummond’s got a good 18pts a game off of that and what he already does.

His maneuverability in the post when contesting rebounds is what gives me the most hope. He’s already using dropsteps and seals to pursue the ball, attacking the rebound at its highest. If he can figure out how to use these same moves to get where he wants to go on the offensive end, were talking Moses Malone.

Remember when the Pelicans were ONE pick away from drafting Drummond to pair with Davis.  I remember watching that draft and thinking "holy crap!  This team could be incredible!"  Instead, they got stuck with Austin Rivers.  A Davis and Drummond frontcourt would have been insane!

Nah, big spacing issues and both are mostly pick and roll players on offense. Davis might develop as a face up threat and improve in his jumper, but he’s not there yet, so for at least two years they would’ve had some problems pairing them. Basketball is not NBA 2K, two players might be great but that doesn’t necessarily mean they can play together.

Even so, what’s the worst case, they have to trade Drummond and get great value back for him?  Much better than what they have right now with Rivers.  I understand it isn’t NBA 2K, just stating the fact that they would have been way better off having Drummond rather than Rivers.  I get the spacing issues, but there would still be a chance of Davis, Anderson, and Drummond working well together.  You’d probably have to bring Drummond off the bench.  Totally legit argument though, but thought I’d point out how close they were to getting this amazing talent.

Please can you point it out to me where did I write Drummond wouldn’t have been better than Rivers? You wrote "a Drummond-Davis frontcourt would have been insane" and I was just answering that. Of course Drummond at #10 would’ve been a great pick and they could’ve still get value out of him.

Spacing, yes, but it would still be insane. The rebounds. They would have all the rebounds. Also there would be no ability for the other teams to function in the paint on offense. It would be a world of blocks and hurt for anyone who attacked the rim.

Now you would need some shooters on the outside. In fact all your other guys had better be shooters to make up for the spacing issue. But finding guards and and SF who can shoot a three isn’t that hard. It would work. But you are right, it wouldn’t be insane right now. Just like neither team is all that great this year. But both players are getting better. They each make a small leap next year and the year after that (very possible since they would only be 22-23) and I think one could say that lineup would be insane. Especially if the rest of the team were built around it with lots and lots of shooters.
