Am I jumping the gun by being a little excited about this guy?

Nice athleticism, focus, and activity in those plays. Good to see

At his age, size, and athletic ability I think a few teams are going to look back and regret passing on him. He’s already giving us highlights before the season.  He’s got a long way to go but I second you on that one Churchboy. Many of what I said is obvious but I didn’t have much expectation for his first few years.

Everytime I see a thread like this I laugh at MJ.. I know Drummond hasnt proved anything yet and could still be a horrible player but as of now, he isnt far off of what Davis is doing.

Dont get me wrong here, Davis is a better player.  However, Drummond could be right up there with him very soon..

The Bobcats out smarted themselves.. When you have a physical "freak" fall into your lap, you have to take a chance on him.. MKG is nice but I feel like what he does is replicated by quite a few players in the league.  And lets be honest, he is probably going to end up being a player like Iggy who is a borderline All-Star and a player that keeps you good but never pushes you to great.

Productive bigs are rare in the league right now and they have forever been the staple of great teams.. Am I saying that Drummond would have made the Bobcats great?? Not this year.. They would have drafted in the Lottery again next year. But, depending on where they drafted, they could have paired Drummond and Kemba with Shabazz, Zeller, or even Noel!!

Instead they went with MKG, a perfect Scottie Pippen (but there arent very many MJ players left in the league).  However, they will end up with Pippen the Blazer instead of Pippen the Bull.

    SMH at the damn Bobcats..

with those highlights he looks to be the mold of Deandre Jordan. I hope he can develop actual post moves or a face up jump shot. But regardless he’s going to be a good shotblocker and finisher at the rim.

In the mold of Deandre? When has DJ ever contorted his body AROUND the defense similar to what a guard would do, DJ only looks to dunk. It is clear Drummond is rough around the edges but you can just see he has that little bit of finesse along with a mix of raw power, kid is gonna be real good. Condolensces to the teams that passed on him.

I like the fact that he is going to the rim, but he needs to start initiating contact. Circus shots look nice, but they dont get you to the line.

as bad of a FT shooter he is, i doubt he’s striving to visit the line.

looks really nice and i hope he will make his way.

but did anybody realize he never scored on anything like a post move? we all knew that he could score on putbacks and stuff like that. the stat that i think is more important: 15 min played, 7 rebounds. He seems to crash the boards hard….

He’s averaging a respecable 5.6 boards per game in very limited minutes. But he’s 28% from the FT line. Same as his 29% FT shooting in college and that concerns me. That is freakishly bad. I’m pretty sure with about a week of practice I could beat that shooting blindfolded. With touch like that, I dont think he can develop post moves and make shots that aren’t right at the rim. All post moves require fakes and you have to have some chance of actually hitting the fall away jumper or hook that you are trying to fake with for your moves to be effective.

Also, if he continues to shoot that bad from the FT line then "hack a drummond" wins every time. Hack a Shaq didn’t really make that big a difference because Shaq shot about 50%. Anything above 45% and you are at least treading water and generally getting some points at the line. But at a 30% level any team will outscore you just by fouling you and then running their normal offense.  It would be sad if he can’t get his FT shooting percentage up higher, but at the current level and the level he shot in college, he has a big problem. The math just doesn’t add up and NBA teams are smart enough and ruthless enough to take advantage of this weakness.

But too my recollection only Biedrins has shot his FTs that low for a long period of time. So probably Drummond will get this worked out.

The big thing here is he looks aggressive. That was his biggest weakness in college imo. When he attacks the rim instead of trying to lay everything in softly is when you see glimpses of a possible superstar.
