Despite what Houston may say, I just can’t see Omer Asik being on their roster opening night. Here are some possible destinations.

The one most people are saying is New Orleans for Ryan Anderson. Teaming Howard with his old teammate in Orlando. A perfect match for Howard in the stretch-4 Anderson, allowing Howard to have it all about him in the post. Would really love this for Pelicans with Asik and Davis manning the paint together. Makes sense for both teams.

Golden State. Rumors of them wanting to move Lee’s contract. Not sure GS would want to take on Asik’s contract, and would need more players/picks to make deal happen but Asik would make up for a lot of mistakes defensively of Curry and Thompson struggling with perimeter defense. Lee would make Houston that much better as well.

Boston. Brandon Bass, maybe Terry or Lee picks. I think Boston loves Avery Bradley and value him too much for Asik but maybe Houston could pry him away, probably not though. Asik-Olynyk-Green-shooter-Rondo would be pretty good. Houston isn’t getting the most value in return but solid players and positional needs.

Miami. Bosh, it works financially….. I would do it if I was Pat Riley to save $ and get tougher in the paint and improve defensively and rebounding. You might be facing Dwight Howard in the Finals. But this will not happen.

One that most people will say is crazy (or maybe you think all of these are) but would make me the happiest man a live is Chicago. Boozer for Asik. Everyone says Boozer will never get traded but anything can happen. Plus Boozer would make a good paring with Howard. No, people, Boozer does not play in the post anymore. Sure he gets touches down there but all of his FG’s come from midrange. He obviously wouldn’t stretch the floor and give as much room for Howard as Ryan Anderson but would still give Howard space. Boozer is also an excellent passer, especially in the post to the opposite big- with Noah now, and Howard potentially. Boozer also a better rebounder than Anderson. Anderson with a slight edge on D because Booz is the worst, but you could make an argument that Boozer would be a better option, although not financially, on the court and help them win more games than Anderson.
I feel as if there aren’t that many real viable options for Asik where the value, fit, and $ works out so, as crazy as it may be, Boozer is one of them. Definitely wishful thinking though.

Do you think he will be dealt, and what are some other possible destinations?

I would love to see Asik as a member of the Thunder to be honest. Take Perkins and someone else or a pick for Asik. Perkins would be a servicable backup for Dwight and the Thunder get an upgrade at the center spot…. but that’s just wishful thinking

Rockets could get a solid player for asik, asik has shown upside and rockets dont have a good enough pf at the start of this season. thats the only position they dont have any help at i see Terrance Jones getting good mins at PF but im not sure he is a starter just yet and greg smith would be clogging the middle with Howard they need a stretch 4 if anderson trade happens it helps both teams Howard is going to get alot of attention down low and needs someone to kickout too…. If i were rockets i would shop him but id make sure im getting something good in return

Obviously he’s not happy in Houston so I also see him going in a trade.

There are numerous teams which need a center who can rebound and guard the rim, Asik fits the bill. He’s not a star but an excellent back up and/or a decent starter on a team like Houston which has plenty of firepower from the rest of its roster. There are probably 8-10 teams who could use and/or want Asik, possibly more.

I think he could be a great fit with The Cavs. Mike Brown would love him and he would help balance out Bennett’s defensive inefficiency.

Knowing Cuban he will probably trade for him which is a good fit with Dirk but Cuban doesn’t realize that Dirk isn’t the same player anymore and isn’t going to carry a team with Calderon, Devin Harris, Vince Carter, Marion, and the best center available (Gortat or Asik I don’t want Bynum). I think it’s time to tank, maybe get in a 3 team trade with Houston and give them Dirk, Asik go to a team in need of a center and the Mavs get some draft picks or young players
