This kid is talented man,but he is real raw. Who knows if he will ever reach his HUGE potential. I think he may be too slow to be as good as his potential shows. He is like a slower less athletic earl clark. His NBA comparison from the NBA seems like Mike Dunleavy. What do yall think?

I have difficulty finding a current player comparison. He has an awesome stroke and a soft shot, but is also beyond soft physically. Every time I see him try to work in the post he gets swallowed up and rejected. He looks easily intimidated. He’s essentially become a three point shooter, unfortunately. He doesn’t have the quickness or strength to do much else.

Bender? Bender Was The Type Of Athlete That Only Comes Along Once Every 10 Years. Daye Isn’t Half As Atheltic As Bender Was. A Legit 7 Footer Who Could Go End To End In 4 Dribbles Then Jump Over Anyone Who Got In His Way… Ridiculous. Too Bad His Career Was Cut Short By Injuries And Inconsistancy. However, Daye Has The Same Body Proportion As Bender Did Coming Out Of High School. I See Daye As A Guy With ALOT Of Potential, But If He Doesn’t Reach His Potential… Can Anyone Say Darius Rice?

ok first of all i wasnt serious when i said jonathan bender because i know that daye isnt as athletic as bender but NO WAY was bender the type of athlete that comes along every 10 years.. i could name a bunch of players just as or even more athletic than bender.. and end to end in four dribbles?yea maybe in practice, jump over anyone who got in his way? if he jumped against anyone he would get bodied to the ground.. and lastly, saying Darius Rice is totally off.. Darius Rice wasnt as good a shooter as daye is.. not only that but Daye actually has potential to be a decent defender with his length as witnessed by his 2 bpg.. i know bender isnt the best comparison but saying saying darius rice is just ridiculous.. was he even drafted?

Daye lacks lateral quickness which means he will always be a below average defender. I’m kinda feelin the Dunleavy comparison. His length makes up somewhat for his subpar athleticism.

Not As Good Of A Shooter As Daye? You Are Wrong. Rice Made 11 NBA Range 3 Pointers In The NBDL Finals Game (to go along with 52 points). But Yeah, He’s Bad At Shooting, Like You Said. And About Bender, PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEASE Name All Of These Other Players That You Know Of Who Were Over 7 Feet And Had Athletic Attributes Like He Did. Humor Me.

I’m Not Saying Rice Is As Good As Daye Could Be, But The Key Words Are COULD BE. If Daye Doesn’t Reach His Potential(i hope he does, but i doubt he will) He’ll Essentially Be The Same Player As Darius Rice Is. A Tall, Lanky Shooter Who Can Put The Ball On The Floor From Time To Time, And Get A Block Here And There, But Will Always Be Limitted By His Slight Frame And Weak Mind.

ok well there obviously arent that many athletic 7 footers i dont even know if i could name 10 but wat u said was “the type of athlete that comes along every 10 years” NOT 7 footers.. and another thing.. bender is/was not 7 feet .. and you tell me… how do u know daye has a WEAK MIND? humor ME.

Well If You Watch Any Of There Games, When Daye Gets In Trouble or If He Has To Call A Timeout, The Camera Will Pan Over To Their Bench And He Will Have A Whiney Frown On His Face, And He’ll Look Like He Is Blaming His Teammates For His Shortcomings On The Court. That, By Definition, Shows A Weak Mind. And Another Thing, Daye Seems To Disappear In Close Or Big Games. Idk If That Is Because He Doesn’t Want To Lose The Game For His Team Or What, But That Sure Isn’t What I Would Call A Strong Mind. And Yes, Bender WAS 7 Feet. He Was 6’11 Coming Out Of High School, And Was Drafted At 7′. He Was Always Listed As 7′ On ESPN.com, And On NBA.com. So If You Want To Argue With Those Experts, Be My Guest. And Being 7 Feet And As Athletic As He Was, That DOES Make Him The Type Of Athlete That Comes Along Every 10 Years.

Daye reminds me alot of a taller Tayshaun Prince. I haven’t seen him in extended games, but I think at minimum he’s a servicable swingman in the nba. The Kevin Durant Comparisons are a farcry of what this kid truly is is, but I see a spot for him in the nba. At an absolute he’s the next Tim Thomas, but I think he’s much better than that.

I dont think Daye is playing at 100% because he wears that cumbersome knee brace. Usually if a guy still has to wear that kind of brace his knee is far from 100% and being a veteran of knee injuries myself I know how it can mess with your confidence when your wheels are not right. I would like to see the kid in full health before I say what kind of player he might be.

i guess WIKIPEDIA was wrong.. and nba/espn who happens to sugarcoat over half of nba players heights is correct.. but other than that.. bender was a once every 10 year athlete.. i really thought he was gna be something special.. heres a fun fact tho.. jonathan bender drafted 1999 (“once every 10 year athlete”)… 2009 draft coming up real soon… mmmmmmm…….

That’s not saying that he’s a bad player but the simple fact that NBAdraft.net even compares him to a great player like Alex English and I’ve also heard the comparison to the Iceman a.k.a George Gervin are ludicrous. Yes, Daye will probably play in the NBA but he isn’t all that fast or athletic (possibly due to the serious knee injury he had over the summer) and desperatley needs to add weight. He will be a solid player though because of his size, shooting ability, and overall scoring instincts but comparing his to hall of famers is the wrong move

Yall all have great points man. But when you really get into what you guys are saying, the one thing that it all comes back to is this: AUSTIN DAYE ISNT TOUGH ENOUGH!

I saw Gonzaga play Memphis earlier this year and he definitely did not look like an NBA player. He did nothing well the whole game and just got murdered on defense.

just because Daye lacks lateral quickness doesnt mean he will end up as a below average defender.. shane battier and tayshaun price come to mind.. i mean, both have very average lateral quickess yet both are regarded as top notch defenders. would u even consider battier athletic? lol.. the dunleavy comparisons seem fair, both are shooters who bring little else to the table. i just hope daye does well he seems to have the potential to be something special.

and rofll to the alex english/george gervin comparisons.. i like the kid but damn hahahhaa wat is nbadraft.net thinkin??!

all i was sayin that just bcoz daye doesnt have the best lateral quickness doesmt mean he will fail to be even an average defender.. ur exact words were “Daye lacks lateral quickness which means he will always be a below average defender” key words for me being WILL BE.. that is unfair not only to daye but any basketball player who lacks lateral quickness..i personally dont think he has the defensive mentality to reach that of battier or even prince.. but dont say he WILL BE a below average defender just bcoz he doesnt have the best lateral quickness.. do ALL good defensive big men have great lateral quickness?no. marcus camby is pretty damn slow. but other than that.. its cool when my FRIENDS call me flip as a joke.. dont call me that..

He has skill, but the guy is soft as charmin. I have routinely saw this guy get pushed around. In that Memphis game R.Dozier outplayed him the whole way. His length and skill level is interesting but his lack of hustle and hard work make him seem like he would be a liability in the league.I am dissappointed in him considering his dad was a NBA player he should be tougher. He will need to stay all 4 years to develop.

Sorry you saw my comment as offensive filapino but lacking lateral quickness and a good defensive mindset isn’t the recipe for a good or even average defender. I dont think Daye will be able to play down low in the league because his skinny bones wont be able to put on weight thus meaning he’s going to have to be on the perimeter where he’s going to be a defensive liability because when he closes out on a defender notice how he leaves at least a foot and a half between he and the defender this is because he does’nt want to get blown by. Was it a bold statment to say he will always be a below average defender? Yes. Does he have a chance to prove me wrong? Yes. I like BOLD statements over sugar coated one’s.

how was ANYTHING i said “sugar coated” did i say he was gonna be a top notch defender?no. did i say he was gonna be the next shane battier/tayshaun price?no. so u like bold statements? saying daye is going to be a good defender is a much BOLDER statement why dont u say that
