Lotto StudParticipantWhat happened to Bradley being a lockdown defender ….he got ripped by Teague 1 play and on another he let him blow right pass him, he looked very timid to me.

JoeWolf1He’s a 19 year old rookie, I don’t think anyone expects lock down D from a guy that young and inexperienced, defense is usually the hardest thing for a rookie to adjust to. Give him time, he’s got a big wingspan, plenty of athleticism, was a good defender in college and plays for Doc Rivers.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantSome rookies are surprised by the speed of the nba..When Beasley was in Miami he was told he had to be a better defender in order to get more playing time and that took away his aggressiveness on the offensive end…
i remember when Kobe was a rookie, Stockton made him look like him look bad…and in kirk hinrich’s rookie year, in a game against the pistons.. Hinrich had the ball taken from him 3 times in the 3rd quarter and was benched for the rest of the game…Now Kobe and Hinrich are among the nba’s best defenders…

Lotto StudParticipantI’m not trying to knock Bradley by all means I really like him it’s just that I expected more out of him vs Teague.

JoeWolf1I’m not saying you were, it’s just un realistic to expect a 19 year old rookie who gets less than 15 mpg the first two months of the season to be anything close to a lock down defender no matter how much defensive potential he has.

Toronto16ParticipantHe barely gets to play, I’m sure when he is in he is trying so hard to stay on the floor he is messing up.

BasterdInABasketParticipantjeff teague does have elite quickness and even top veteran defenders are going to get burned once in a while. Itll take bradley or any rookie awhile to adjust to defending a great athlete just about every play in the nba unlike in college.

JNixonParticipantTeague is by no means an elite PG or anything, but he’s one of the quicker PG’s in the NBA and for a guy who has been nailed to the bench to come in and have to contain him, he was due to get a "Hey Rookie, welcome to the NBA"-type introduction. Bradley was never a pure lockdown defender IMO in college, but he was the best on-ball defender when he faced SG’s with PG size (Jacob Pullen, Sherron Collins etc etc). He’s super fundamentally sound on the ball and he made guys work for shots. I think his D has the potential to be similar to Delonte West, a guy who is very good defending PG’s and has the toughness and fundamentals to defend SG’s for spurts as well.

hiphopismylifeParticipantDont forget Jeff Teague is a serious athlete with elite quickness, and like someone said already it’s a major adjustment for any rookie to come in with little experience and not have that happen. Dwyane Wade is a prime example of a guy who was a great college defender, struggled early in the NBA on that side, and has improved substantially. Bradley has a great motor and Rick Barnes called him as fast a player as hes coached (including TJ Ford), and he didn’t even stick around long enough to become a great college player, much less a lockdown guy in the league this early. Hes still got considerable upside.

ilike.panochasParticipantI still have no clue why the Celtics drafted him. Avery is basically in the same situation as Bayless was in Portland. I think Bradley has the talent to be a starting guard in the league, but I don’t see it happening in Boston. I was hoping he would land at Indiana or Toronto during the draft so that he have te chance to flourish.

Mr. 19134ParticipantHe is getting adjusted to another one of the harder things for rookies. Rookies think they only have to worry about the big time players and then he goes against somebody like Jeff Teague who isn’t really all that heralded but Teague got every bit of athleticism that Bradley got and that what he learned. Teague is a combine stud just like Bradley is. Bradley I think will eventually be the better player in the long run because he uses his athleticism better. The same way
Some players know how to use they’re athleticism better then others. I remember when Carney and Iggy both played for the Sixers Carney was a combine freak. Carney’s lane agility, and 3/4 sprint scores were all off the charts and in fact even faster then players like Westbrook, Gordon, and Wall, and so was hit Vert. Carney was hands down better in every athletic department the Iggy who didn’t really put up insane numbers at the combine. But if you ever watched them play on the same court together nobody would ever walk away thinking Carney was more athletic. Iggy uses every ounce of athleticism he got to the max and Carney doesn’t. Carney could beat 90% of the league down court but he doesn’t run hard enough.

Meditated StatesParticipantThey did it with Al Jefferson and West. They make them better then trade them for Veterans like KG and Allen. Jefferson brought KG and West was in the deal for Allen to Seattle. Bradley will make big strides next season and it will show. He will help the team in practice and become a good peice to have in a year or 2.

ChrischiParticipantBruce Bowen could defend 1-3 and many fours pretty well. Bradley’s to small for that 🙂
