TRC1991ParticipantWhat do you guys think about him? I know he is playing out of position at center and he is a terrible rebounder but he has a lot of range and is young…not as good of a shot-creator as dirk but he has potential to be a solid euro PF in this league
you guys agree?

NYK2010ParticipantI agree, he needs to play next to a legit big man though.

RafterParticipantI never thought he’d reach the ceiling of being the next Dirk, i didn’t, i always felt he’d turn out like an Okur, this was his chance this season to become "the guy" on offense and be the leader, in parts, he’s been good 19.4ppg and 83.9FT% but elsewhere in the stats department, he’s hasn’t been great, 44.5FG%, 4.3 RPG and 2.1 TO that’s not good production from your starting Center.
Currently, the Raptors are 1-6, he needs to step it up big time. If the Raptors continue slumping, then Bargnani isn’t a star in my book, more of a second fiddle guy and maybe a 1 or 2 time allstar type of player.

dalinkerParticipantI think Bargnani has no work ethic on the defensive end, yeah he’s tall and stuff but for a 7 footer averaging 30+ min a game and you only get less than 5 rebs. that’s bad. Best thing that could happen with Bargnani is playing with DHoward. They’ll hide the other persons weakness.

HitsterParticipantToronto drafted Bargnani to be a finesse C alongside Chris Bosh and despite the JO experiment, Bargnani has still remained a C. But with Bosh now having moved it could be the right time to move Bargnani across to PF but the Raptors have signed Amir Johnson to a large contract to also play that role and their top 2010 draft choice Ed Davis is also mainly a PF. But you could argue Bargnani is the team’s star now so you play him in his best position and others fit in around him so maybe Johnson or Davis has to play some C or Andersen might have to start as Alabi is some way off being NBA ready.
A run for say Tyson Chandler next summer would be logical or even a Kendrick Perkins type, if they get a high draft pick then someone like Kanter or Sullinger would be a logical choice.

JoeWolf1I think he’d be best suited to play at power forward. His rebounding is pretty awful, but it’s his mindset, he doesn’t play like a center he plays like a face up small forward, but at 7′ and his athletic ability he’s too slow to guard anyone at SF, so if he were to play PF next to a defensive minded center that would be ideal. IMO not only would Toronto not be god awful at defense and rebounding at the Center position, but Bargs being tall and a pretty long player would actually get more rebounds against 6’8”-6’9” power forwards, and by more I mean maybe 6.5 but hey it’s better than getting 4 against the centers of the league.

TokenWhiteGuyParticipantThe raps have Evans beside Bargs right now which is kindof what you guys are decribing. Evans just isn’t big enough to gaurd centres. So I agree it would be better defensivly if he could shit over so he can use his size more, but then he would loose his speed advantage that he has against most centres on the offensive end. I still wish MJ didn’t renig on the calderon-chandler trade.

Toronto16ParticipantHe is a good player, but if he is your teams BEST player, your team is in trouble.
Crap. I’m a Raptors fan.

HitsterParticipantEvans is a great rebounder but as Token WG said, he just isn’t big enough to play at C and when Toronto tried various combos of Bosh, Bargnani and JO at 3 to 5 a couple of years ago that didn’t work either.
Toronto will likely go big in the draft but Motiejunas is too much like Bargnani for my liking and what if they land in Perry Jones’s draft area could they afford to pass on him for example. I’d assume that there is no way they could pass on Barnes.

TRC1991Participantreggie evans is horrible…averaging 27 mpg all he can muster up is 24% shooting from the field
sure he is a good rebounder…i dont really care….anyone could average 12 rpg in 27 minutes while shooting 24% from the field…

torontoraptors10ParticipantAgreed. Bargnani is a second option player and he doesn’t have that mindset to take over games like other PF/C do, like Nowitzki. We all know it, the Raptors will have a top 5 pick in this years draft and hopefully we can get a legit franchise player (Barnes, Jones or Irving, I DON’T WANT KANTER and I am pretty sure all Raptor fans know that we aren’t going draft a Euro, well he is from Turkey so that makes him middle eastern), we can use Bargnani as a secondary option once we get our franchise player.
We can get a legit C through free agency too.
I wish the Raptors kept Roy Hibbert….

ZeroParticipantLong story short, he plays like a small forward. Exept he’s 7 feet, is slower than most (if not all) small forwards, and he plays no defence. The raptors really need a good defensive minded bigman at the centre so he can handle the defence and boards while Bargnani can be doing his thing scoring.

OhCanada-Participantweve been talking about getting a legit center for 15 years through free agency yet we are left with Anderson, and Bargnani.Dont kid yourself any good center is signing with a contender, we gotta draft someone for that role.

Chicago1980ParticipantI never liked him he can shoot but he does every thing else so poorly he doesnt play D he doesnt rebound he doesnt block shots and hes a 7 footer thats not good I think he would be a good 3rd option on a good team but he is not a star by any means. Like Zero said he plays like a small forward which is true and that whole toronto team is not tough at all besides reggie evans they are a soft jump shooting team that is going to be pretty bad for a while.

PureshooterParticipantTurkey is a European country with heavy Middle Eastern influences, so Kanter would still count as a Euro.

HitsterParticipantToronto still have that huge Bosh exception and could use that to obtain the defensive C that they need. If Cousins continues to develop at the Kings then they may be tempted to move Dalambert to save a load of salary and Sam’s contract could be swallowed up with most of the Bosh exception. Whether Dalambert would remain in Toronto next summer could be questionable as a few contenders may well offer him their MLE or above but Toronto could possibly put a nice contract his way and try to retain him.
If Denver did go into rebuild mode then Nene with his player’s option next year could be an option for Toronto who could offer up the Bosh exception and maybe the 2011 pick they get from Miami. If Nene would commit to Toronto for 2011-12 then they get a decent big for at least the best part of two seasons and the pick they give up would probably only be in 25 to 30 range.
Denver get the exception which saves them all Nene’s remaining contract plus a large amount of luxury tax and a late first rounder gives them draft flexability or the chance to draft a young prospect.
