The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh

love and basketball, blue chips, above the rim, hoop dreams....those are pretty much the essential, i wuda said space jam but if you're playing aau bball and haven't watched it yet, kill yo self. 2 times.
i've soon alot of basketball movies @im jus so offended im jus so offended you would think i haven't seen space jam! haha
Imma try to watch Semi-Pro .. i've seen He got game,Space Jam,White Men Can't Jump,Hoosiers,Love And Basketball,Juwannaman,Blue Chips,Hoop Dreams,Hoop Reality,Like Mike,Like Mike 2,More Than a Game, and probably some more i cant remember.. I've never heard of The fish that saved Pittsburgh and Celtic Pride tho X.X
Hoosiers (I think this is my favorite basketball movie after Hoop Dreams)
Gunnin' For That #1 Spot (It is ok, but the players are current and it is cool to see them in HS)
Half Nelson (It is not all basketball, but it is about a girls basketball coach with a drug addiction)
The Heart of the Game (Good documentary about a girls basketball coach and focuses on his star player)
Soul in the Hole (Focuses on Ed "Booger" Smith, former SI cover story, streetball legend. Also looks into Kenny Jones, his coach and mentor, plus Charles Jones, no relation, a former big time scorer at Long Island University)
Magic and Bird: A Courtship of Rivals (Really good documentary)
Once Brothers (Talks about Vlade Divac and the relationship he had with his former teammate and friend Drazen Petrovic, after the war in the former Yugoslavia)
Baseketball (Obviously, one of the greatest movies of our time)
Here is a list. Google is a great thing:
What about Coach Carter?? But another favorite of mine is White Man Can't Jump.
There were a lot of good ones too, that is a major compliment. Once Brothers is super deep. Crossover looks, well, not so much. Was that the basketball movie written by Lil' B? :) (Oh, McDunkin is going to have a field day).
M-DYMES, dude, you know you and your boys used to watch "Love and Basketball" at sleep overs.
He Got Game is probably my favorite basketball movie, Glory Road & Hoosiers are great ones too.
If you haven't seen Sebastian Telfair's 'Through The Fire' documentary, that's a must watch too.
lol Mikey...thats what's great about Love & Basketball. Its good enough to watch without your girl, but its a way to bring in that chick flick and show her your supposed "sensitive side" without falling asleep.
My go to basketball movie gotta be White Men Can't Jump. Woody Harrelson is the man.
I'm telling ya Celtic Pride is underrated though. Anyone I've shown it too agrees its pretty good.
I still dont know why Gunnin for the #1 spot shot u inyo my top list after the first time i saw it...like Mikey said compared to most bball movies its just ok
He Got Game
Blue Chips
Hoop Dreams
Space Jam
Once Brothers
Rebound is one of my favorite basketball movies. It is about Earl Manigault.
Kevin Bacon in "The Air Up There"
He Got Game
Blue Chips
Space JAm
White Men Can't Jump
Love and Basketball
Corssover(Actually I rather enjoyed this one)
Like Mike(Enjoyed it when I was younger. Not sure what I'd think of it now)
Coach Carter(used to fall asleep to this everynight senior year)
And whoever said Once Brothers is getting a +1. I watched this about a week ago and is now one of my favorite documentaies I've seen.
Another good movie is "Bad As I Wanna Be: The Dennis Rodman Story" It was a made for T.V. movie. Pretty good if i do say so myself.
Hurricane season- was pretty good about a high school basketball team rebuilding itself after hurricane katrina
Just Wright- more of a chick flick, but it was pretty good.
StreetBallers- I liked this movie a lot actually
sunset park
i've seen most the movies listed here, didnt care for a lot of them. My 2 favorites are above the rim and celtic pride.
Hath thou never seeneth Hoosiers? If so, it is a must watch. I think Hoop Dreams is one of the greatest films ever made, but I absolutely love Hoosiers. I honestly get misty eyed at the end during Gene Hackman's voice over.
Forgot about celtic pride. Akroyd,Wayons, and Stern were hilarious in that. When Bird called Akroyd and Stern, fair winter fans, they genuinely looked sad and hurt. Too funny.
I watched Just Wright with my girl the other night, not terribe, not very accurate. Rashard Lewis was portayed as being an All-star still lmao. Simply because they only payed like 5 real nba players. Saw Bobby Simmons in the background of like one scene. Dwight Howard was a rumor spreading lil &$#%#&@! in that &$#%#&@! lmao.
Amazing Grace and Chuck. Alex English- yeah that smooth 6'7" jump shooting forward from the Nuggets was Jesus Shuttlesworth when Ray Allen was in diapers. OK- there was a little more wordly meaning to Chuck versus the father son thing in He Got Game.
And- in a moment of levity, who can forget Teen Wolf. I mean the guy stood underneath the rim daring him to make those free throws.....and he drained them.
"I even toasted the bun for you."
"How'd you do that there's no toaster"
"I used my curling iron"
LOL
"I am not a hero...I'm a plumber"
"I hear Manute Bol is banging your mom"
"Jazz music sucks and so do you"
"You guys suck so bad that nike should take your shoes away"
"I spent the whole morning on the bowl"
"Thats always a good sign"
"Its an even game" (switch seats)
"Aww that was a close one"
Theres 3 movies you should check out that are all pretty sick:
More Than A Game - The Lebron James documentary about him and his high school team, it a really good watch.
Hook'd: The Legend Of Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell - This is another really cool documentary about Hook Mitchell, one of the best street ballers ever who grew up in Oakland with GP, Brian Shaw and Antonio Davis.
Gunnin' for That #1 Spot - Its another documentary about 8 of the top high school prospects in 2006 getting ready for an all-star game at Rucker Park, its got a lot of familiar faces in it.
Heres the youtube links for Hook'd, I recommend people watch it, this guy was a legend in the Bay, I remember seeing him on the news on several occasions.

Coach Carter
hoosiers is my all time fav b ball movie he got game white man cant jump blue chips all great movies loved the mention on amazing grace and chuck alex english did a great job in that movie
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0360216/
I was going to post it on my original list yesterday, but it literally slipped my mind. This movie is fantastic, it documents Yao's first year in the league and through his eyes and those of his translator. If you get a chance, definitely watch it, I really enjoyed it. It explains a lot about China's relationship to the game of basketball, that it was one of the Western things that China actually embraced rather than shunned. Really cool movie, I gained a lot of respect for Yao watching it.
I have seen Hoosiers Mikey and i know its on everyones top bball movie lists and i did like it. Its just that to me its one of those movies that im fine watching whenever it comes on tv..not one i would buy the dvd for or anything. Thats just my opinion though like i said i did like it and i can see why a lot of people do love it
But I mean come on.. Lil B, Jersey, Josh McRoberts...how good can my taste in anything really be?
Shout out to iguapops420 for mentioning "The Air Up There" pretty unrealistic but an ok movie
And what was the name of that wayans brother bball movie?
Speaking of Rodmans made for tv movie didnt MJ have one too?
I actually liked that movie, with Marlon Wayans and Kadeem Hardison. If you are a UW fan, I think that movie is a must love, as it does kind of take them to NCAA glory and all. The Air Up There was also a favorite of mine, I loved that movie when I was a kid. I always wanted to think there would be a Saleh who would come in and tear up the NCAA. Plus, the Jimmy Dolan Shake and Bake is still my go to move.
Thanks much McBased. I think you're right about the MJ movie. Can't remember what it was called though. Don't think I ever actually got to watch it.
At mikeyv, what was with that initiation ritual in The Air Up There? You definitely said it right with UNREALISTIC.
6th Man is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's very close to home for me. I always took a back seat to my brother on a bball court even though I was clearlythe far more versatile/team oriented of us. He had that more"star" "go-to" quality. He and I had a very bad falling out that we still haven't really gotten past and I ultimately lost my lifelong B-Ball teammate. Just a genuinely sad movie for me, now I think of us in a similar manner.
Now, on a bright note, Kareem Abdul Jabbar stars opposite Jim Varney in the always cheesy, Slam Dunk Ernest. "Know what I mean Vern?"
Everyone should definitely check out The Basketball Diaries as well. It's about drug addiction and growing up in NYC as much as anything else, but it's still a great movie.
DiCaprio and Marky Mark we're awesome in that. "I broke your record. My mom thinks I've got a cold all year long"
Its really only about b-ball for the first 30 minutes ior so though.
Whatever happened to the two kids profiled in Hoop Dreams? Did they play professionally anywhere?

Its summertime and i've been really bored lately. Mostly been playing AAU basketball this summer and nothing else really. So i figured to pass up some time i would watch some Basketball Movies that i've never seen before, any of you guys have suggestions? favorite basketball movies or sports in general?
