After watching his 30 for 30 documentary and YouTube videos of him, it’s clear to see he was a crazy talented and unique player. How good could he have been I he never got murdered at the young age of 17? To me his offensive game was as smooth as Tracy McGrady with a Ray Allen jumpshot, and on defense he was a gods defender who used his length and timing to block a lot of shot ala Anthony Davis.

Much like Lenny Bias, we’ll simply never know.  It’s fun to speculate, but I say we just appreciate their games for what they were at the time of their respective passings.

People in that youtube video were calling him the LeBron of that time period, but there’s no way to guarantee he wouldve turned into an amazing player.

You’re right, we’ll never how much success he would have acheived. Too many factors such as injury, or even the fact that it is impossible to predict someones development curve accurately, make it impossible to say.

But like all players who are ranked nearly unanimously as the top high school player in the nation heading into their senior season, the sky was the limit. Scouts and recruiters were in love with him, and he definitely had big potential.

He hadn’t commited to a program yet.

It is my understanding that Illinois, Indiana and DePaul were the front runners.

His high school team won the state championship in his junior year, and were favorites to repeat even before Nick Anderson (Wilson’s good friend) transferred to join him for their senior season.

R.I.P. Benji Wilson. I’m sure we all missed out on a great player.
