I’m watching the game last nite and guys are giving their opinions of who the best center in the league is during the game break. Cwebb and Kenny said brook Lopez was at the top while some others said Marc gasol. When Dwight’s name was brought up everyone on the set just laughed. It’s funny to me that Dwight is getting treated the way he is. I think all the circumstances and drama he’s created in the past 2 years has made a lot of people lose respect for him. He isn’t even really mentioned as among the rope 3 centers in the league anymore. The guy is so called “injured” and still putting up great numbers for a center yet his recognition isn’t there because of his flaws as a competitor

Dwight has regressed some due to the injuries and scrutiny he has received in orlando….that said anyone that doesnt think hes a top 3 center is absolutely on drugs.

I do belive that people are losing respect for him. But you have to realize too that they may be going off of just this years performances. From a production standpoint, Dwight is the best center and when he is healthy there really is no debate. But in terms of skill, there are far better skilled big men than Dwight. Maybe Kenny and Cwebb opinions are based off of how they think a center should play as well. Brook Lopez and Marc Gasol play like the big men of the past. You can dump it down to them and they can give you turn around jumpers and great post moves. Basically with them you can give them the ball and get out the way and they can score. Most of Dwights points come from alley oops and garbage buckets. But everybody is entitled to the their opinion. I do still think Dwight is the best big man. But this year alone, I think Tim Duncan has been the best center. Brooke Lopez is a great scoring big man but he doesn’t get enough rebounds for me. Same with Gasol. They both average 7rpg and 7.7 rpg respectively. You have wing players that average more than them. (Lebron and Durant). Dwight is averaging 16.8 ppg, a league leading 12.4 rpg, and he is top 5 in blocks. I honestly think Dwight may just needed more time to get healthy or maybe he needs a new change of scenery so this won’t even be a debate again.

To be fair Brook plays just 30.6 MPG. 8 minutes less than Durant. If he had Durant’s 38.7 MPG that would project to 8.9 RPG.

Lebron and Durant are both excellent rebounders for their positions. Brook isn’t a great rebounder but he’s not anywhere near as bad as people make him out to be due to one mediocre season. He’s a true center with a terrific offensive game, protects the rim well and is a solid rebounder.

You make a valid point. You could aslo argue that he plays alongside a better rebounder. Reggie Evans plays 24.4 mpg and he is averaging 11 rpg which is best for top 5. Omer Asik averages 11.7 rpg and he only plays 30.1 mpg. I never said Brooke was a terrible rebounder. I just said he doesn’t get enough for me to consider him better than Dwight from a production standpoint. I just like big men to get atleast 9 or more rpg. If those guys can get those type of numbers within the same minutes played or less than I think Brooke can as well

I’m not sure why former nba players who are now broadcaster dog him so much..But over the past 4 or 5 years he has clearly been the nba’s best center..He’s not a tradional low post center like a Shaq or Hakeem..But he was a great defender, rebounder, shot blocker and a great athlete..In Orlando the offense was built around him..In LA, he had to deal with injuries,3 different head coaches, new sytems and playing with 1 of the most dominant scorers in nba history, who even admitted that he wasnt easy to play with….Howard struggles has opened the door for other bigs to make a claim as the best..

I say Marc Gasol has played the best this year…Guys like Noah,Brook Lopez,Horford,Hibbert and Chandler all have had a good year…….But they’re not as versatile as Marc Gasol, he has plays ran through him ,can defend, rebound, block shots, play in the paint and step out and hit shots…..

I think the biggest reason he’s getting dogged so much is the fact that the most talented center in the league (Howard) and one of the best scorer’s in the league in Kobe are on the same team with one of the best PG of all time (given he’s past his prime) and are still fighting to even make the playoffs. Obviously a huge reason for that has been the injuries for the Lakers throughout the season, so is the criticism fair or not I don’t know.

Dwight is getting a ton of crap this year and I don’t get it. I guess someone has to be the scapegoat for the Lakers this year, and Kobe is beyond reproach. He’s putting up good numbers and he is also coming off an injury.

Marc Gasol is playing very well too. But, the Griz run more offense through Marc, and he is now the focal point of the team. He is also getting more help up front (Z Bo) than Dwight is getting (Pau Gasol).

    Both are great centers.

Wish Dwight Howard could play with Marc Gasol. I think it would be a PERFECT twin tower combo. Dwight’s shot blocking, rebounding, and dunks with Gasol’s passing, mid-range shooting, and low post moves. Both guys are good on defense too.

Dwights getting dogged because he cant shoot. He’s an offensive liability 10 feet and out and can’t make free throws. He’s also getting worked over because he seems to shrink in big spots.

Lebron was criticized early in his career about his lack of clutch and poor free throw shooting. Combine the fact that he playing with Kobe, a winner’s winner, on the Lakers, a team that expects nothing but greatness, and its easy to see why he’s getting hate. Not to mention his attitude pre-trade, and that he remains non-commital to return to LA.
