koyozoyoosaParticipantThere’s no question that Thabeet can play the game of basketball. After all, we’re talking about one of college basketball’s most dominant centers from 2008-09. He averaged a respectable 13.6 points to go with his 10.8 rebounds as a junior, but it was primarily the 152 shots he blocked in his third year at UCONN that earned him the attention of the Memphis Grizzlies, who used the second overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft to acquire him.

koyozoyoosaParticipantInstead, injuries and a lack of postseason success have defined McGrady’s career, and now at 33 years old he seems to have aged at a faster pace than his peers. Even as we talk about how Steve Nash, Jason Kidd and Grant Hill still have plenty left in the tank despite pushing 40, McGrady looks more like a former NBA player.rfrwe

koyozoyoosaParticipantPart of the problem, of course, is that unlike some of the all-time greats McGrady didn’t stay in elite shape during the NBA offseason. Like many players, he would count on being able to play himself into shape in training camp rather than staying ready during the summer, and while he was good enough to survive that way for a while, it did catch up with him fairly quickly. dsa2w

koyozoyoosaParticipantGiven how far his game has fallen off – he hasn’t averaged double figures since 2008-09 in Houston – teams are looking at him as a veteran presence more than a scoring threat, and he isn’t inspiring confidence in teams looking for a veteran voice.r3232

koyozoyoosaParticipantIt wasn’t so long ago that O.J. Mayo was one of the hottest names in the rumor mill. The Indiana Pacers tried to get him several times, the Minnesota Timberwolves were among the other interested teams, and yet Mayo found himself looking for a home in free agency this summer. 2121221

koyozoyoosaParticipantThe Dallas Mavericks count themselves lucky to have added Mayo for this 2012-13 NBA season, and Mayo is confident that the new-look Mavericks can go far, even further, perhaps, than the super-hyped Los Angeles Lakers.6433434

koyozoyoosaParticipantMeanwhile, the Thunder didn’t do much beyond drafting intriguing big man Perry Jones in the first round of the draft and signing free agent center Hasheem Thabeet in free agency.3242423

koyozoyoosaParticipantOnly he wasn’t. He appeared in 68 games for the Grizzlies as a rookie, starting 13 times, and managed just 3.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest. As disappointing as that was, his numbers were even worse the following year, and the Grizzlies dealt him to Houston before the NBA trade deadline, acquiring Shane Battier in the process.w1`1`

koyozoyoosaParticipantHouston’s then-coach Rick Adelman saw nothing in Thabeet that made him want to play him, so he appeared in just two games for the rest of the season and didn’t score a basket. Rockets management hoped that incoming head coach Kevin McHale could reach Thabeet the following season, but even he could only coax 1.2 points and 1.4 rebounds out of the Tanzania product. e23121221ws

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantNBA scrimmages are normally filled with nothing but cheers, but there was some booing Wednesday night at AmericanAirlines Arena. That happened when two women late in the first half walked by in the stands, one wearing a Ray Allen No. 20 Celtics jersey and the other a Celtics Rajon Rondo No. 9.

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipant“We got enough Ray Allen Heat jerseys,” James said. “They don’t need to wear a Celtics Ray Allen jersey. But if it’s a Ray Allen jersey, I don’t mind.”ba3g

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantAllen shot 5-of-11, including 3-of-7 from three point range, for 13 points. He didn’t look like a 37-year-old guy out there.3232bhhhaa

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantAllen didn’t look like a guy who had offseason ankle surgery. He said he’s feeling as good as he has since he lit up the Heat for 28 points for Boston last December at Miami.5474345

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantAmong the other top marksman, Shane Battier shot 4-of-7 and Mike Miller 3-of-8. Even center Chris Bosh was 2-of-3 en route to a scrimmage-high 19 points.h23322a

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantAfter Allen, Lewis was the Heat’s second big free-agent acquisition during the offseason. Overall, he shot 1-of-9, although he did have a scrimmage-high nine rebounds.vaf23234

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipant“It’s almost like how Orlando was with Dwight (Howard), you just surround him with so many shooters, you don’t know what to do,” said James, who 15 points in the scrimmage while looking mostly to get others involved. “It’s going to be a good problem with us.”ju34343fa

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantThe Chicago Bulls want to extend fourth-year power forward Taj Gibson. By letting Omer Asik sign with the Houston Rockets this past summer, they all but indicated that when given the choice between one or the other, Gibson was the one they’d rather hold onto.j34534343443
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/04/2012 - 12:12pm #718119
RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantDespite rumblings that there is optimism on both sides that a deal will get done before the October 31st deadline, an extension is no sure thing. There’s no telling what kind of payday Gibson could get in restricted free agency this summer, and there’s a chance taking an extension now wouldn’t be the most financially lucrative decision for him.54453434
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/04/2012 - 12:16pm #718128
RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantAnd as far as playing basketball is concerned, Gibson has been pretty solid his first three seasons. Granted, it’s been hard to get a great read on how productive he could really be since he’s spent almost his entire career as Carlos Boozer’s backup, but he’s talented enough on both ends of the floor to be a starting NBA power forward for a lot of teams in this league. huhrt
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/04/2012 - 12:20pm #718139
RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantTo do that, though, he’ll have to continue to get better, and recently-extended Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau spent plenty of time this offseason making sure that happened.h43223fa
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/04/2012 - 12:27pm #718149
RockGAGAEWAWWParticipant“As soon as the season was over, [Thibodeau] just had me in here with him, and we just worked out almost every day, just trying to get ready for the USA,” Gibson said of his preparation for the 2012 USA Men’s Select Team. “I wanted to make a good impression for the USA camp, and he came down and watched every practice. I did a good job, got good feedback, and I feel positive about it.jhtr45

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipant“After that, I just kept playing basketball and didn’t really stop playing,” Gibson continued. “I just kept playing in local tournaments. Like Thib told me, ‘Just keep playing. Don’t worry about it; just find a way to keep playing.’ And it’s been great.”cghgfds
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/04/2012 - 12:30pm #718165
RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantIt would be even greater to get his extension taken care of, but that’s something he’s going to have to wait at least a little bit longer for. Gibson is unquestionably an important part of this team’s future, and the Bulls are hoping they can hold onto him for a reasonable amount of money.
jyhdfg4e0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/04/2012 - 12:33pm #718180
RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantSo while Gibson looks to improve and play a bigger role as Chicago’s unquestioned sixth man this year, he’ll do so either as an imminent restricted free agent or as a re-upped veteran who will have the benefit of knowing his future with the organization.gkjhg
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/04/2012 - 12:35pm #718185
RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantBoth sides would rather the latter, which is why they will work hard to get something done in the coming weeks. Doing so is in the best interest for both Gibson and the Bulls.hdrg43

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantUnsurprisingly, many doctors who have studied anxiety estimate that the number of undiagnosed anxiety sufferers are significant, especially among males. Studies show that some of these undiagnosed individuals often turn to alcohol or other drugs in order to self-medicate and dull the symptoms. Sadly, today’s society often promotes a form of masculinity where “being afraid” is tantamount to being “weak,” or worse, in the opinion of some.sdfasdfa

RockGAGAEWAWWParticipantFor those not familiar with his background, White suffers from severe anxiety disorder. White, to his credit, has been extremely forthcoming about his illness (he even allowed a fascinating inside look into the gift and the curse that was the day he got drafted in to the NBA), which has obviously impacted all facets of his life, including traveling to and from games by plane while at Iowa State. hrty3443
