Wahoo757ParticipantBrandon Bass is opting out of his contract with the Celtics and will test free agency. What does this mean for Bass and the Celtics? What teams will be willing to shell out the money that Bass will likely demand after his imprewsive post season run? Are the Celtics more likely to sign KG and/or draft a PF in the 1st round?
Personally, I’d like to see the C’s let Bass go, resign KG to a 1 or 2 year deal, and possibily draft Nicholson if they don’t trust Jeff Green will be healthy.

providencefriars1ParticipantDamn I liked Bass too but the C’s will have to do a sort of cost analysis to see who is worth more he or KG. KG might win that one if hes willing to take a pay cut

WolfRobParticipantKeeping KG for a year or two to mentor a young big would be perfect to start "rebuilding".
Let Bass go.

jhbm24ParticipantI think he’s gna get a little overpaid not much, but he would be great for a team that needs a stretch 4. His midrange is automatic. Maybe the lakers get bass and trade gasoline for some cap relief?

HotSnotParticipantBass is a PF who shot over 90% from the line and hit his midrange shots at a fantastic clip. His defense is not nearly as bad as some would have you believe. He’s athletic, a great teammate and a very hard worker… and you guys are talking about dumping him? For what?
Bass wasn’t a weak point in Bostons 7 game series against Miami. He’s proven himself capable.

Sewok15ParticipantBass is a beast but anything over 5 or 6 million a season they need to consider different options. The Celtics are getting old in a hurry so they must be smart about the salary cap to go after somebody in free agency next summer. Josh Smith is going to be the guy a lot of teams are after but Doc would love his defense and versitility.

Knicksboy42ParticipantBass to the Lakers for the MLE. His ability to shoot the mid range jumper creates space inside for Bynum.

B-ball fanParticipantBass isn’t bad, but his skill set is replacable. He is a very nice instant offense player, but I don’t think he is a great full time 4 or especially elite as a back-up. He is not much of an intimidating pressence down low and is not always respected as a help defender by opponents. He isn’t a great finisher at the rim and is really reliant on his mid-range jumper, which is very good. He also is a poor passer, although it is pretty much his job just to try to score any chance he gets, so I can’t knock him too bad on that. The fact is, I would rather the Cs just saved their cap room. I think in a few years JaJuan Johnson, or a potential draftee, such as Andrew Nicholson, might be even better than Bass for much less money.

aamir543ParticipantBass shoots 81% from the line, not 90%.
I believe 5 million per year is reasonable, even 6 million, 4 years 22 million seems just right, Bass is a glue guy that can hit shots and give you energy off the bench, he’s a big body and a decent rebounder for his size.

earldaniel31Participantthey should consider signing Chris Kaman or Spencer Hawes

omphalosParticipantI really hope we don’t overpay for Bass.
He’s a solid jump shooter, can hit his free throws and provides a bit of hustle.
But he’s undersized, his shot-blocking technique is atrocious (he jumps at them side-on with one arm extended – just begging for a foul to be called), and he’s a beneficiary of Rondo’s passing, getting a lot of open looks.
If the market sets too high a price (anything above $5 million a year) then we let him walk.
Jeff Green has the same strengths, but he has better size, can create his own shot better, is a better defender and has a higher ceiling. I think Green is a natural 3, but if they want to play him at the 4 he’d be better than Bass. Hell, I’d rather draft Terrence Jones to replace Bass with one of our first-rounders if he’s available.
