Honestly, I really feel like D rose is the Bulls weak link, he takes horrible circus shots all the time that he can’t finish anymore and doesn’t seem to realize he’s not the finisher he once was. He turns the ball over way too much and is not that good at distributing the ball. At this point, Butler and Gasol are much better options offensively, but the bulls seem to fail to realize that I don’t know why. It is pretty clear that D rose will never be the player he once was. Thoughts?

I disagree that he won’t be the player he was.

It’s enough that he’s healthy, he’s playing hard and not shying away from attacking the paint.

Yes, he’s struggling right now to find his role in a team that’s been without him for two years, but there have been games where he’s displayed that old ability.

Consistency and chemistry are taking time, I think they are struggling just as much to figure out Noah-Gasol as they are fitting Rose back in.

You’re also not realising how much attention Rose draws still, is it any wonder that Butler became an All-Star with Rose around to give the D pause?

An example of what Rose is going through would be Eric Gordon, he has finally seen solid game time of late and looks good.
I expect Rose to be better next season as he should be able to have an off-season to establish his new limitations and how best to deal with them.

To me, Rose’s play has been incredibly selfish of late, and he seems more concerned with proving his doubters wrong then he does with whats actually best for the team. Granted he was never really a true point guard in the traditional sense, but there are way too many possessions where he brings the ball up the court with no intention of passing to anyone. His assists totals are the lowest of his career (4.9 apg) . He’s also jacking more three’s than ever, despite the fact that it has never really been a strength of his game and he is shooting less than 30%.

I get that he’s been out over two years and wants to prove that he can still play at an elite level, but honestly this a different Bulls team than the one from two to three years ago, that was basically built around an elite defense and Rose doing everything on offense. Rose can afford to pick and choose his spots when to be agressive and when to be more of a facilitator, because the team has enough other talented offensive options. There’s no need to drive recklessly into the lane or jack up contested three’s early in the shot clock,

The good news is that he appears to be healthy and is trusting his body again, which was an issue earlier in the season. The team’s ceiling is definitely higher when he’s playing at a high level, but right now he is kind of hurting the team imo. Either he needs to show more patience on offense, or they might have to consider playing him off the ball more (maybe start Hinrich at point, move Rose to SG and Butler to SF).

There’s no reason for him to be shooting this much. The Bulls have a very good roster with 5 players who could average at least 15ppg if given the opporuntity. It’s almost the allstar break now and DRose is still ‘finding his form’. There’s nothing wrong with Rose tweaking his game to fit into the offense more. Find your spots and keep the ball moving. He’s playing like Allen Iverson.

What I love the most about the Bulls is they are filled with great passers. Gasol, Noah, Mirotic are excellent passers. Taj Gibson is also an underrated passer from the elbow. They have the capability to get generate a lot of easy buckets yet Rose is taking 23 horrendous shots instead.

I still think Rose is a key for this team’s success but he needs to start gelling with the team.

Rose has been selfis and much more concerned  about his status as an elite player versus what’s best for the team. He shoots way too many threes to and takes too many attempt period. He is literally shooting his team out of games. But once he has one good game everyone will same the old rose is back. That couldn’t  be farther from the truth!

D-Rose sat out the best part of 2 and a half seasons, he had to recovery physically and mentally. The more he played, the more his confidence grew, maybe he has lost a bit of his explosiveness. Butler and Gasol are both putting up great scoring stats this year so it’s not like D-Rose is hogging the ball.

Only recently D-Rose has had his minutes restriction lifted but he is still averaging nearly 10mpg less than Jimmy Butler and I assume he is looking to make as much impact as he can.

D-Rose does need to move the ball around but the flipside is the Bulls need the ball to be in D-Rose’s hands down the stretch in tight games.

I’d like to see D. Rose defer more to Gasol and Butler, and not force it so much. He’s reminding me of Kobe right now and literally shooting his team out of games. He’s also had a lot of careless turnovers.

I think he’ll figure it out though. I think he’ll do what it takes to win a title. He’s still a guy I root for.

I just don’t understand it sometimes…  At the end of the day he’s paid the most on this team and is their leader in every sense of the word.   When he was healthy he showed that and won MVP.  He’s having a down season (which should be expected) and playing through the growing pains…

As someone mentioned before, the Bulls need to also deal with the Noah/Gasol situation because Noah (was in the top 5 for MVP last season) is only playing 30 minutes a game and sitting late in games (Pau Gasol got KILLED by Whiteside on the boards and Noah was sitting on the bench).  Also, D-Rose is the only player on the Bulls that can get his own shot on a consistent basis.   Jimmy has progressed nicely but most of his shots are in transition or a couple dribbles and a pull-up…

Remember for most of his career, D-Rose was forced to get his at the end of shot clocks.   I do agree that he should go through teammates more, but in order for the Bulls to win the Championship, D-Rose HAVE to be consistent and semi-old D-Rose.  He’s not going to get there without playing through this struggle and taking those shots.
