Are the Bulls really going to let Thibs leave?  I cannot believe they will do this, but the longer Gar/Pax sits there and refuses to address the rumors that other teams are going to make a run at him (now add Memphis to that list, per Bill Simmons), the more I think they are mulling this over.

Add to it the Kevin Love availability issue and maybe the Bulls do let Thibs walk for a first this  year or future 1st round pick and then they really have options to pursue Love and/or Melo this offseason.

Simmons is also reporting the Bulls would pursue Fred Hoiberg if Thibs is allowed to leave.

    Huge off season in Chicago.

This could be happening because Luol Deng was traded. Him and Noah I believe are Thibs favorite players

Thibodeau just finished the first year of his four year extension. Why do the Bulls need to address the rumors? By most accounts, there is friction between Thibodeau and the front office, but that is far from uncommon. The Bulls won six titles with the coach and GM disliking (to put it mildly) one another. While Golden State (Jackson), Denver (Karl), and Memphis (Hollins and now possibly Joerger) represent the dangers of coaches not getting along with their bosses, Jerry Reinsdorf has been through this before and in no part of his history come across as someone who makes rash decisions. Phil Jackson and Jerry Krause worked together for a long time. Ken Williams and Ozzie Guillen worked together for a long time. Just as not every player is going to have a great relationship with his coach, you cannot expect every coach to have a great relationship with the GM/President/VP of all things basketball. At any job in the world, not everyone loves each other. Heck, in Washington, every four years books come about about the drama behind a campaign. Win or lose, people have different personalities and visions. If the relationship is workable, then why part company with people who do their job well? If Thibodeau, who is represented by CAA, uses sources to let it be known he wouldn’t mind being elsewhere, so be it. He isn’t going anywhere for nothing because he signed the contract. If a team antes up a pick (and it can’t be a player) that the Bulls value highly, then good for Chicago. Part of the success of the Bulls is that Thibodeau is a great defensive coach (offensively, they have way too many 4th quarter possessions out of time outs that look like garbage), but part of it is that they have a coachable team that has responded well to a grinding style. Orlando tired of Stan Vandy Gundy by this point. I have not heard any Bulls player directly or through a source say a bad word about Thibodeau. This is a reflection of not only the players and Tom, but the organization for knowing which players to bring in. If the Bulls have their current roster, plus three first round picks (or two this year and two next year), plus the addition of Nikola Mirotic in the years to come (maybe not for those players but with an eye for a trade to get another two-way player like Arron Afflalo or Paul Millsap), Chicago will not have to look hard for quality coaches. They will approach the Bulls. Also, this might just a be a power play on the part of Thibodeau to get more say on players, or simply the power over his coaching staff so that there cannot be another Ron Adams who gets fired. Floating rumors do not cost anything.

I think when Gar fired Adams that was the beginning of the end of Thibs in Chicago.  You don’t give your head coach an extension and than fire his right hand man.  It was a just a strange move.  Thibs and Rose are tight too, so there will be fall out there if Bulls brass allows Thibs to move on.

Thibs is not going anywhere.. anybody that is speculating that he plans to leave doesnt have a clue, remember Thibs has been wanted this Bulls Job, he turned down lots of chances to interview with other teams during his boston and houston days.. also the fans would literally drive to deerfield to burn down Gar Formans office if he allowed that to happen.. Tom is everything a Chicago Coach embodies.. hes not going anywhere stop buying into media gossip.

Coaches that truly make a (positive) difference in determining the outcome of a game are so tough to come by in the NBA let alone any professional sport. Thibs is absolutely one of the very few who do, from his Celtics defenses accounting for many hours of lost sleep for us Lakers fans to his Chicago teams that are in just about every game no matter how many of their best players are missing. Chicago would be smart to accomodate him much as possible, and if not, half the league may be willing to. He has a winning pedigree and the respect and admiration of future Hall of Fame players, current coaches, and present day All-Stars. What fan/player/upper-management employee wouldn’t want this man to coach their team?
