Call me biased But Blake Griffin-Eric Gordon is the closest thing to Kobe-Shaq since Kobe-Shaq
I would say Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady might be closer to Kobe and Shaq, and they still have not gotten the job done. I think Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon are the start of something, but their is still a ways to go. I do not see Eric Gordon or Blake Griffin becoming top 10, or in my opinion of Kobe and Shaq top 5 players of all time, much less in the near future. They are good enough to maybe lead the Clips to first round losses though, so I think the Tracy/Yao thing is more of an apt comparison (Tracy McGrady has still not gotten out of round one).
in terms of their style of play. gordon is going to be an all-star sg. griffin will be an all-star big man. Griffin is a dominant big like shaq due to his freakish athleticism. Yao is nothing like shaq. im not saying they will be as good as them at all. Im saying they are the most alike combo to shaq and kobe since shaq and kobe were broken up. Name me a more similar combo?
Do you really think Gordon is going to beat out CP3, D-Will, Kobe, Roy, Parker, Nash, Durant, Chauncey, Mayo, Ellis, Kidd, Foye, J.R., J-Rich for the all-star team?
Thats 14 clearly better guards in the west with even more that you could make an arguement for. If anything he'd be lucky to make 1 or 2 all-star teams. Griffin probably wont even be a perennial all-star.
That duo isnt even in a conversation of Shaq and Kobe.
The closest since Shaq and Kobe has been Shaq and Wade.
Right now these duos are better;
Roy + Aldridge
Yao + Tracy
Gasol + Kobe
Shaq + J-Rich
Duncan + Ginobili
Lopez + Carter
Horford + Johnson
Courtney Lee is better than Gordon so put Howard + Lee
Those are just Big man 2-guard combos
I agree with knicksfreak and others. This claim is insane and one of the dumbest things I've read in a while.
Shaq and Kobe were the best guard in the whole NBA, combined with the best big man in the whole NBA (and of the last 30 years or more). Each are over 10 time all-stars.
Gordon and Griffin cannot remotely compare.
Gordon will be lucky if he ever makes one all-star game. Griffin is no lock either, although his chances are better.
I can think of 20 better combos since Shaq/Kobe.
Shaq and Wade
Gasol and Kobe
Bynum and Kobe
Amare and Joe Johnson
Amare and Nash (if PGs are allowed)
etc, tthis is boring.
Basically why don't you wait until your combo is at least better than average before comparing them to one of the best combos of all time?
Get back to me when Griffin/Gordon win three championships together and each solidify their place in history as bonafide hall-of-famers and two of the best ever at their respective positions.
You freakin kidding me?
Eric Gordon had played one year. Griffin hasn't even played. Together they haven't even played and already you're comparing them to Shaq and Kobe? Wow.
Absolute joke. Not a chance that Griffin and Gordon can compare to Kobe and Shaq. Eric Gordon is too small to be the dynamic player kobe is. Griffin just got measured at 6'10 and Shaq is 7'1. Also, Shag is about 4 times the size of Griffin muscularly. Griffin will be very good, but how can you compare him to one of the most dominant players ever and certainly the most dominant player of his era. Comparing Gordon to Kobe is just flat out stupid. Kobe is the closest thing to Jordan ever and Gordon is a combo guard that can't defend like Kobe. Gordon and Griffin is more similar to Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudamire back in Johnson's Suns days. Closest to Kobe and Shaq was DWade and Shaq. No one can really compare to that duo tho. Hopefully the Magic can get someone like DWade or a dominant wing player to go along with Dwight Howard. THAT would be the closest to Kobe/Shaq. BTW, the Clippers will suck forever so no need to make anymore dumb comparisons alright?
I don't know about Shaq and Kobe, but I see what you're getting at. And to the guy who said Courtney Lee is better E.G......Quit writing about basketball. Gordon will be the 3rd or 4th best SG this year....Mark my words, but I have to see What B.Griff can do before the duo can warrant Shaq & Kobe comparisons.
I don't know about Shaq and Kobe, but I see what you're getting at. And to the guy who said Courtney Lee and Jason Richardson is better E.G......Quit writing about basketball. Gordon will be the 4th best SG this year....Mark my words, but I have to see What B.Griff can do before the duo can warrant Shaq & Kobe comparisons.
Gordon 4th best this year?
I find that extremely unlikely (although far less insane than the Kobe Shaq comparison).
Let's see:
Kobe
Wade
B. Roy
are all way better, so are you slotting him next?
But what about:
Manu
Rip Hamilton
Vince Carter
Kevin Martin
Joe Johnson
Michael Redd
Iguodala
Ben Gordon
Ray Allen
JR Smith
Jason Richardson?
I think they're all better than him right now, and it's unlikely he passes more than a couple of them next year. Can you really say with a straight face that he will pass everyone on this list next year?
I will say this when Eric Gordon gets more consistent, will be better than more than half of the people on that list.
That's exactly who I have above him, but the only guys I think may have a better year is Vince, and maybe Joe Johnson. The other guys either: get injured too much, are getting old, or just aren't better than E.Gordon. I see him having a season similar to what Granger had this year, and he has all the tools to do so. He has an extremely explosive first step, has a silky smooth J, and underrated PG and defensive skills. Now he is going to have an inside presence in Griffin, that will open his game up even more.
I'm not a Clipper's fan by any means (I've stated before that I love the Cavs and Mavs). I just simply have a man crush on Eric Gordon's game lol. I don't see why everybody else isn't high on this guy.
Embarassing topic.
I will say that if Eric Gordon were as tall as Kobe Bryant and Griffin were as tall as Shaq, this MIGHT be a legitimate conversation. As it is, neither are even close in height to Kobe and Shaq, and they are not even close to Kobe and Shaq as a tandem.
wow guys. I'm saying that in like 5 years, they could be like them in terms of style of play, not in chamionships, all-star appearances, or stats. Also, as i have explained many times gordon>mayo. link to that argument: http://www.nbadraft.net/node/5306
i was talking about clippers..bust as far as gordan being the 3rd or 4th best next year i dont think so..he wont be better than mayo,kobe,monte,..he will be a better scorer than courtney lee but not the better player....ben gordan..tmac if hes not hurt....jason richardson brandon roy ray allen joe johnson d wade micheal redd.........and as far as tandams every tandam right now since those two havent played together yet...im gonna be very interested in there summer leauge though...the clippers alreadt said gordan blake al and jordan will be there for sure
the clippers gm already said al is playing in it.im guessing mike taylor will be also..baby shaq from greece is wayyyyyy out of shape to play ..hes more suited for the euro game and spot minutes
The closest thing to kobe-shaq is dalembert-willie green, maybe chandler and mo pete, no doubt about it.
No joke, eric gordon is for real, as a sophomore, it will be 20 pts a game, 180 3pters...great 7th pick, great drafts 3 str8 years for the clipps...
They were supposed to be shooting guards and a big man duece, not random tandems lol (And you lose all credibility for putting Iggy and Brand, we seen how well they meshed together.) I agree with you guys that they will never be Shaq and Kobe, but Eric Gordon is about to explode this year.
Dude it's a dumb post, move on. The clippers are not a good team, just be happy you have Griffin aight. Be happy you have a good nucleus right now with Gordon, Griffin, Taylor and my man DeAndre Jordan. In a few years your team can be good, but lets not go make outrageous comparisons.
exactly..most of the clipper fans cant just be happy with the number one pick..some of them have just lost there mind by the shaq kobe comparisons or they will be better then the lakers in 3 years or my favorite from yester ..the clippers will challange for the nba championship and sweep the lakers during the season...yes the clippers have potential and we all hope they will be better for there fans sake at least ( but im not holding my breath..not cuz of the talent but because of the organization) its better to compare eric to ben gordan if anything...but that shaq/kobe comparision is just ludacris
then put youre hands over youre ears since even the gms and writers agree thats who hes comparable too at this point in his career because hes strickly a scorer right now...pretty much there isnt anyone else to compare him to
lol..that is tru since most of them said darko would be good...i just cant think of any one else who is around erics height wit the same game...dont get me wrong though i do believe he will be better then ben but if you can come up wit a more compareable player go ahead...and if i could compare him to any player id have to say mitch richmond
Eric Gordon and Blake Griffin is a great duo, but they are not Shaq and Kobe. First of all, Blake Griffin isnt even close to being what shaq was and eric gordon is not quite as good as a kobe was. Good observation though.
lets see..ereic averages 2rebs and 2.8ast 1steal 2 turnovers a game..38percent 3poit shooting and 44 percent fg shooting...so what else is eric gordan exactly right now if hes not just a scorer..please tell us something every one else seems to not no...and no not a lock downdefender...check out each game he played on nba.com and youll see that most of the players he guraded either got there average or went over and shot there season fg percentage or over and didnt turn the ball over anymore then they usually do
its called watching all 82 clipper games buddy...
read this to see my arguments: http://www.nbadraft.net/node/5306
You went a bit far with that comparison bro. Gordon my fave player i don't even think that. He and Griffin have the potential to be a Williams/Boozer or something along those lines. Those two can definitley carry Clippers to the play-offs but they would need a lot more help than what Kobe and Shaq did to get even one ring.

Do u agree. A future all star scoring 2 guard (who trust me is a good playmaker and defender as well) + an athletic freak of a big man.
