I know Charlotte has gotten alot of flak for drafting guys like Sean May, Adam Morrison, trading for Tyrus Thomas, letting Tyson Chandler go for pennies, etc. but recently Charlotte is set up nice for the future. In 2011 they managed to snag two first rounders from Portland for Gerald Wallace, and also was able to trade one of their first rounders on draft night and Stephen Jackson for another top 10 pick, which led to future point guard Kemba Walker and Serge Ibaka/Ben Wallace clone Bismack Biyombo. In the 2012 draft they selected Michael Kidd-Gilchrist which looks like a home run pick for them as he shows big time Scottie Pippen/Gerald Wallace potential. Now in the 2013 draft it looks like they will have two more lottery picks as their own will be top 2 again and Portlands could be between 13-17. Next year they could potentially have 2 MORE lottery picks in the monster 2014 draft, which is their own(potential top 5) and Detroits(potential 9-15), they could possibly snag a good veteran in the strong 2014 free agent class. Charlotte has done a nice job of accruing young talent and very good picks, they should be in the playoffs no later than 2015.

Playoffs in 2015? Gotta give these lottery picks more time to grow. But I agree that after the 2014 draft they should have a much brighter future with some good young talented pieces.

The East is weak and with teams like Boston getting older and Miami’s big 3 possibly parting way after next year, Charlotte has a good shot of being the 8th seed

Agreed in full, only thing i disagree with is the biyombo. I think they have two future starters for sure in place with Kemba and MKG, but like you said they have 2 lottery picks in the next two years, say this year they get like likes of ben mclemore and a mcadoo or isiah austin, then next year get a guy like adams if they fall short of the wiggins/parker derby. They will be set for the future, they could play small or big.

Good roster in 2015 if they play their cards right.
Kemba, mclemore, mkg, mccadoo, adams as a small lineup or sub isiah austin in for jmm for a big one with the likes of hendrson and biyombo off the bench, and i havent even touched the second pick they have in 2014 draft……. Now just change the name back to the hornets and get the key painted like a net again and pinstripe unis…..Great future..

Yes! But Jordan isn’t in charge of personnel moves anymore, so the world is safe.

I agree with the OP except I wouldn’t call Bismack Biyombo a Serge Ibaka clone. He’s more similar to Ben Wallace in that he’s undersized for the center position, a good rebounder, defender, and shot blocker without much offensive ability. Serge Ibaka has a lot more offensive ability than Bismack has and Ben Wallace ever had.

I think they eventually are going to have to lure a good free agent or trade some of these picks if they wanna take the next step….not impossible but very difficult to build a contender straight through the draft..

They appear at least to have a good plan/foundation to finally get relevant…

Love what my bobcats are doing….we got rich cho and his plan to build us through the draft is working so far….and getting extra picks…Kemba is looking like a stud….so is MKG…so we have the pg and SF positions locked up…i have full faith in Rich Cho and the front office..

MKG is an excellent glue guy and Kemba looks like a go to scorer but the team still lacks that real superstar such as a Wiggins or maybe Shabazz. They could of course still be successful with a very solid team of good players maybe adding a player such as Cody Zeller who would give them scoring alongside Biyombo’s defensive potential.

First, don’t put Pippen and Gerald Wallace in the same sentence or comparison. Second, MKG hasn’t shown me anything that says he has all of this potential. How can you say drafting him ahead of Drummond, Lillard, Beal, Ross, and perhaps others was a great move? And Biyombo? A good draft decision? Ibaka/Wallace clone? No, dude is lost. Walker is playing great this year but someone has to put up numbers on a good team. Remember what type of PG’s he has to go against night in night out in the league, Rose, Paul, Rondo, Westbrook, Holiday, Lillard, etc. Thanks in part mostly to being undersized, I don’t like his matchup against a majority of the league’s PG’s. I am not seeing this same young talent the way you see it. And acquiring more picks, in a terrible draft (2013) so they can hit more home runs like the rest of their young talent?

As a Bulls fan, I’ll take my chances that their 2016 pick will turn out very nice for the Bulls. I just hope that they don’t land Wiggins.

I know it’s dumb (coming from someone in marketing) I really feel like their name and colors are holding them back. I know if I was a free agent I wouldn’t want to go to the orangeish bobcats, no style. Bring Back the Buzz

I agree if the New Orleans change their team name then Cats should go back to being the Hornets.

Bobcats have made awesome moves but they are still young.

Biyombo may not become the score Ibaka is but it is still too early because early on Ibaka did not score much or have the jumper he has now.

    Future

    PG Walker
    SG ????? Henderson
    SF MKG
PF ???? Mullens(Mullens could mature actually own this spot or Center but that could be wishful thinking)
    C ?????

    Bench
    Sessions
    Taylor
    Biyombo

If they draft another 2 guard then Ben Gordon may be moved
They could possibly trade a pick or some pieces for a veteran PF or Center
More likely a trade for a Vet PF since C’s or hard to come by

That could be a top 5 team in East in 2 years if they don’t screw up in the draft and they can get a veteran in a trade
