with the emergence of darren collison, should chris paul be traded? i dont think it would be a terrible idea. but i want other peoples feedback. what would you do if you were the hornets? and i have a trade idea(dont know if salaries match but should be close). maybe chris paul, julian wright, 1st round pick(2010), and 2nd round(whenever) to the grizzlies for rudy gay(sign and trade), mike conley, 1st round pick(2010, basically swap picks) and maybe hamed haddadi. would anybody do this? was bored and though it could work for both teams.

and its assuming rudy gay gets like 11 mil per. and they would basically trade spots in the draft(like 2 to 4 slots). memphis could draft aminu, george, or ebanks to kind of replace gay. and NO could draft maybe another big like aldrich, alabi, or take another wing like james anderson.

Tough to trade a star point guard, even with Collison in the mix. I wonder if NO could get a lottery pick for Collison?

Noooo Waaay should they trade Paul!!! I know Collison has played well and has shown that he’s a future star..But he doesnt have CP’s court vision..This summer several teams will try to pry 1 of these guys away..But I think, they should hold on to both of them ..Until at least the trade deadline next season to see if Paul can remain healthy..

i know he is raw, but dont you think if you can get good value for paul, you should take it. i know it would be a tough decision and that collison isnt near the player of paul, but dont you think with a high caliber wing player another big, and maybe even another good wing player, that the hornets would be better with that and collison than collison and paul?

I am kind of indifferent on this whole situation and let me tell you the reasons swaying me both ways.

    For keeping Paul:
He is the best point guard in the league when he is healthy. He is a high character guy that makes every player around him better. Let’s not forget two years ago he was getting a lot of attention for MVP consideration. He makes every NO player better when he is on the floor. He makes the right decision almost every single play (just look at the mans assist to turnover ratio, insane for someone handling the ball as much as him). He also fills seats in NO. He was considered one of the cities biggest hopes after Katrina hit. Also marketing Paul is easier than Collison.

    For dealing Paul:
Like I said before, Chris Paul is the best PG in the league “when healthy”. His injuries are kind of an ongoing concern for me as a fan. It always seems like CP3 can’t stay on the floor for a full season. With the emergence of Collison, and the uncertainty of Pauls health, one wonders what exactly can NO get for trading Paul and keeping Collison? I’m more than positive teams would be throwing big names at NO for Paul if they were to dangle him in the market and it would be intriguing to see what offers they could get. Big men win championships and they could snag a pretty good big for Paul (and throw in Okafor and maybe get two solid players in return).

If I was a GM though, I probably would not trade Paul because he fills seats in the arena and is one of the most electrifying players in the league when on the floor. The Hornets can get good valued players in trading Collison. That’s just my take though.

You will never get equal value for Paul. I wouldnt worry about the injuries, he’s played 78 games 3 time in his career, and has had two injuries. This guy is a bulldog, a winner, a competitor, a fiery floor leader with the game to match. He is the best point guard in the league, and unless your getting1) Anthony Randolph and Corey Maggette,2) Michael Beasley, Cook, and first round pick, or something equally roster shattering, you can’t get value for this guy, because I guarantee you wont get a better player back, so you’d better get 2 or more really good ones.

Meanwhile itd make way more sense to move Collison, who many view as a legit starter in the league, for one good potential player for Paul to work with and bring the potential out off. Using the earlier example, Paul and Randolph is better than Collison, Maggette and Randolph

I brought this up in a forum like two days ago and I got slammed, but I think it is a good idea if there is a top 3 pick and other considerations. The team around Paul isnt good enough to win a championship and they are trapped in several bad contracts that prevent them from adding pieces to be serious contenders. I think an ideal trade partner would be NJ ( if they didnt get #1 overall and select John Wall).

NO recieves- Young role playes with expiring contracts Yi and Courtney Lee along with NJ’s draft selection
NJ receives- Chris Paul and James Posey

New Orleans would then have two lottery selections to fill holes along with two players who could potentially help them right away in Yi and Courtney Lee. That combine with Peja’s huge expiring contract that could be dealt for additional help would leave the Hornets in a situation that could potentially leave them competitive as the build toward the future.

NO should try to trade Collison for perhaps the lottery pick of Indiana or Memphis who desperatly need a point guard.

In NBA 2K10, I traded CP3 for LeBron. lol
but in reality I dont think anyone would trade CP3, I think if they cannot play together, DC will be the one who gets traded, unless NO can actually get a superstar in return.

I honestly think that they should try to keep Colllison and see if it works. I think that it would really add a lot pf PG depth. If it doesn’t work out, then I think that Collison is the one that should be traded, NOT Chris Paul. I still that Chris is the best PG in the league and if it wasn’t for the injuries, then this forum topic wouldn’t have even been created.

Bam this subject has been brought up like 5x on this site. Again my feeling is that NO should at least look at the offers. I mean the Hornets are in a horrible financial situation and CP3 is just one of the massive contracts they have. He also has been injured a lot as of this year which could be something to consider as well. I still think he is the best PG in the league or at least a 1a 1b with D. Will, but the way Collison is playing, he deserves to be a starter on a NBA team. He is putting up damn near the same type of numbers CP3 has been over his career (given Collison has only really played about 1/2 a season), but he is a making far less $$$. If you could get a king’s ransom for CP3, similar to the NFL version of the Herschel Walker trade, I think you need to look at that. If you get a potential or an allstar caliber player for him, along with a few high first rounders, that is something I’d be interested in looking at in exchange for CP3. The NBA is a business as well, and despite all he has done for NO, they need to look at what is the right move for the future of that organization. There may be outrage from some fans at first, but if you field a team that can take it to the next level, they will more than forgive in the long run.

I think it would be dumb to trade CP3 to play Collison. This is the same silly hype that had people saying that Ramon Sessions was a top 5 PG on here this summer. Ha. I still maintain that Collison is nothing more than a great backup and a mediocre true PG if you want to have a good team. He’s not the scorer or playmaker CP3 is. It’s obvious Chris Paul is better than him by a pretty long shot. Let’s not get too excited over him. I’m trying to tell you guys.

I won’t be shocked if Chris Paul gets traded, but not for Collison to be the starter. It was 3 seasons ago that the Hornets were the 2 seed in the West and were a game away from the conference finals. The season after they get the 7 seed, and get blown out by Denver in 5 games. This season sub 500 and the head coach got fired early in the year, something that pissed off CP3. I would not be shocked if Chris Paul does one of two things, 1) Be a part of who the new coach would be, 2) Asks to be traded to a team that is a title contender. He is a classy guy, so I don’t know see him letting the media making it a mess.

Collison is more then Sessions-esq hype. He’s averaging 18 and 9 with outstanding shooting %s over 35 games.

NO will look at offers for both players and take which ever they feel is the best value. But let’s not forget they seem to be in a poor financial position and CP3 makes like 15 times more a year then Collison over the next 3 seasons. CP3 is a better point guard, but is he 15 times better?

That may not be a bad deal if you take out the star element that Paul has. You would basically be trading one guy and one position for two solid players and help fill positions that New Orleans is weak at. I think Paul will stay and heal up nicely and they may move Collison for help at the 3 and they will take a big man with their draft pick. They may also take a bk shooting guard in the second round.

They will try to save money. I expect they won’t trade Paul in the offseason, but maybe during next year unless Paul and Collison are effective on the floor at the same time, which NO will probably try out.
