fliptonnParticipantwe all know what hes done this season. the kid has been phenomonal. average about 16 a game shooting over 62% and putting up big numbers against highly touted guys like anthony davis, jared sullinger, jack cooley, draymond green and meyers leonard. he helped his team make a solid post season run, putting up 20 against eventual ncaa champions kentucky. so i’m wondering what your guys’s opinion is on his draft status. I think he should go. i’ve heard people putting him as high as 3 on their big boards. this might be a stretch but i think its fair to put him ahead of arnett moultrie. i think he can only hurt his draft stock by returning. Indiana isnt going to be a contender next year so hes really only risking injury. I think he should go this draft, possibly be a top 5 pick definitely top 10 and start learning how to play in the nba. he could end up being a four year senior who cant adapt to the nba like we see from so many great white college bigs. maybe im missing something but i really dont see him passing shabazz muhammed, nerleans noel or even andre drummond if he stays, in next years draft. this guy is the perfect missing puzzle piece to a lot of teams. he could compliment guys like kaman, okafor, biyombo, nene, monroe, cousins, lopez, worst case he could be a very promising center for that new look milwalkee team. what do you guys think?

UNCbasketballbumParticipantIndiana won’t be a contender next year? They have almost everyone returning and with Cody, they should be preseason top five or even number one. Tom Crean has done amazing things with that program and it all depends on if he would want to be part of what could be a special Indiana team next year. He was also quoted as saying that he didn’t want to be eating Ramen Noodles while Tyler was eating at five star restaurants next year so we’ll have to see what he wants to do.

bigballinjdgParticipantHe should defn stay another year. It will only help him, and possibly the #1 pick next year. Gonna have a true PG and #1 freshman PG in Yogi Ferrell coming in which will only make him better. And to say IU not a contender next year, you are out of your mind. ESPN has them #1 for next year already along with many other college basketball sites.

fliptonnParticipanti still got louisville and kentucky ahead of them, potentially baylor and even nc state too. but thats not the point, do you think he should stay or go?

rickybobbyParticipantPhysically he isnt ready for the NBA yet. In this year draft he a top ten pick i see him going anywhere from 4-10. The guy is very good and by returning he gets a chance to add much needed weigth, and continue to polish his offensive moves. And Indiana is going to be one of the top teams next year with almost everyone returning and a very good recruiting class. Andy Katz has them as his early #1 in his top 25 for next year.
We havent seen Muhammed or Noel play in college so we dont know how they stack up. And even if they do play well he will be a top 3 or top 5 pick next year with a chance to go number 1 if he continues to improve. The main reason i see him staying is because of the resurgence of Indiana Basketball without him they dont make the jump they did this year. He went to Indiana to build the program back, i dont see him leaving after one year when he can have an opportunity to possible when a championship for a team, community and the State of Indiana that has went through so much the last couple of years.

UNCbasketballbumParticipantI’m glad someone else agrees with me that saying IU won’t be a contender next year is completely ludicrous. They will be one of the best team in the country and will be very good even if Zeller goes pro. Also, there is no way Baylor and NC State should be ahead of them next year if Cody returns.

juves4783Participantwell andy katz just listed them as the preseason #1 team, so i think staying a year won’t hurt. also, the kid is listed at 210 lbs. that won’t fly in the nba unless your name is kevin durant. another year won’t hurt him. if anything, his numbers may go down; but i think after this season, there’s little debate about what he can offer a team.

fliptonnParticipantthere are guys like steven adams, mcadoo, and a crop of other guys waiting to explode onto the scene. and i could see zeller turning into a sullinger where his stock will take a hit if he doesnt put up better number and make it to the final 4. which is a lot to ask. i just really dont want to see him become tyler hansborough or cole aldrich where he waits too long and people start saying he doesnt have enough potential, you know?

fito91ParticipantAs a Bucks fan I would absolutely love for us to draft Cody Zeller should he enter the draft. I highly doubt he falls to us seeing as we are picking 11th or 12th right now. The Bucks need to draft a big man to replace Andrew Bogut. Drew Gooden has played well this season for us, but he is not a center. Zeller is an athletic center with a nice skill set that would fit great with the Bucks new style of play. The only thing he needs to do is get bigger.

UNCbasketballbumParticipantGosh, who would want to turn out to be Tyer Hansbrough? 4 time all-american, national champion all time leading scorer at UNC and in the ACC and one of the greatest college players of all time. I’d HATE to have that career.

fliptonnParticipantbut i meant based on draft stock. more power to him if he can pull that college career off.

rickybobbyParticipantI’m a huge UNC fan and i dont think Tyler Hansbourgh was consider a prospect like Cody Zeller. Tyler Hansbourgh just played with alot of passion, aggressiveness, strength, and outworked everyone at the college level. Cody is probably more skilled than Tyler was as a freshman and he is 6’11 and if he can add 20-30lbs like of muscle he has a good chance to be very successful.

UNCbasketballbumParticipantI dont think anyone at the college level worked harder than Hansbrough. After the 2005 national championship team left for the NBA, I knew we had a player coming in who was a top ten recruit. I thought he’d be a good player coming in but never imagined he’d accomplish what he did. Cody Zeller has more skill and athletic ability than Hansbrough. Most top ten prospects for the past six years have had more talent than Hansbrough. His work ethic was just off the charts.

clawlinParticipantWhat really worries me about Cody Zeller as a prospect is that his wingspan is reportedly 6’8”, and guys have a hard time staying in this league with T-Rex arms. It really hampers him on defense and allows him to be blocked easily. I hope those measurements were just wrong, for the sake of his professional career.

Dale WorthingtonParticipant"Indiana isnt going to be a contender next year."
I just OD’d on FAIL.
You do know they’re a consensus top 4 team…and many consider them to be a frontrunner for the National Championship. You even said you have 2 teams ahead of them and maybe 2 others. So in your opinion they’re a top 5 team in the land (if not top 3) but yet they aren’t a contender. Okkkkaaayyyy…
BTW CZ coming back is a good idea. He can improve his rebounding and strength.

DipoTimeParticipantCody was 210 last year in high school he is currently 230 according to IU and I have heard from other sources that he had put on 20+ pounds since getting to IU. Jus sayin

PulseGlazerParticipantHis lack of wingspan is a big concern. I thought he was a franchise type player until then. Now he’s probably more like an all-star and will likely end up a big 4, not a 5.

Knicksboy42ParticipantCody should stay another season, ball out and then leave. Indiana is gonna be LOADED next season.
