Footage of Cody @ the Hoosiers madness. Looks like he did hit the gym hard after all.

I’m skeptical of the 39” vert too, but when you’re that tall and only need 20 inches or so to dunk, you’re not going to jump your highest every time.

here’s what it would’ve looked like if he really had a 39 inch vert!… (that he could actually pull off in a game)

Or that lob Leonard caught the other night. Zeller looks like a good athlete but not a 39" vert athlete. Then again, maybe he just can’t use it in game ala Jordan Farmar.

I am skeptical of that as well, but much like Joe Wolf said earlier, you do not necessarily jump your max vert every play. That oop, Zeller jumped well high enough to catch it and throw it down. Not to mention, he dribbled and retrieved the pass. As opposed to running full speed and receiving the ball with no traffic, as Leonard was able to do in the clip shown above. If Cody has much less of a max vert than Meyers at the combine in 2013 (if he participates), would be fairly surprised.

He runs the court incredibly well and was super efficient as a freshman. He is not exactly eye candy as a first pick, but in this draft which does not necessarily have a ton of depth, he is in the running. Zeller plays hard, has gained a great deal of strength and displayed a really high basketball IQ. Has vision and while the 39 inch thing may have been an exaggeration, think that people looking at a highlight video to be impressed as opposed to the total package of what he brings to the table are using the wrong standards of judgement.

Another thing that people forget is that while he may have a 39 inch max vert, he doesnt have close to that in his functional vert.  Just like Harrison Barnes and OJ Mayo.. Both have something like 40 inch verts but their functioning vertical is much less than that…

Is it me or do his calves look huge? Like, disproportionately big compared to his thighs. Could be the low angle, but it looks weird. Pause the video after his last dunk and he’s running back up the floor.

Lmao… That’s funny. Yea, his calfs look bigger than the rest of his leg. I’ve always thought the Zellers were built funny dating back to middle school AAU. Just weird looking dudes in general.

As an owner of large calves, I can say he looks damn good running with them.
