Maybe I’m overreacting, but I think there’s a pretty good chance that Tubby Smith will be let go as the Gophers coach after this year. It seems like every year he’s been their coach, they’ve gotten off to fantastic starts, then crumbled when actually getting to Big Ten (12) play. That, and his recruiting classes haven’t exactly been the greatest (Hollins brothers aside). You’ve gotta wonder if Gophers fans are getting tired of this happening year after year. That begs the question, who replaces Tubby if he’s let go? Are there any notable coaches that would be available?

There isn’t a coach out there with Tubby’s pedigree that would be willing to coach in “minny-soda.”
He has developed his program into one of the top defensive programs in the nation. As long as they make it into the top 25 every once in awhile and make the tourny once every 3 years then Minnesota will be happy and he can stay as long as he likes.

Do you really think there is a coach out there that can get top recruits to skip the big schools and go to one of the coldest areas in America?

Minnesota is getting sick of Tubby and we are not of the the best defensive teams, no idea where you got that from. Tubby makes no in game adjustments and is constantly getting outcoached in the Big 10. In his 5 years here, his teams have yet to figure out how to play against a zone defense. We turn the ball over and just stand arround on offensive. Chewy you have no idea what you are talking about.

Our new AD is the former AD of VCU and the guy who hired Shaka Smart. They have a great relationship and maybe we could try to lure Shaka to Minnesota.

You think waaay too much of the Minnesota Basketball program. You lucked out that Tubby couldn’t handle the extreme loyalty and scrutiny of Kentucky. There is no way that you could get Shaka. If you honestly believe that then I hope Tubby leaves because I would love to see who you actually end up with.

Tubby recruits alot of tough players who are lower caliber as far as skill sets go. He needs to sacrafice something because a player that is atheltic, strong AND skilled WILL NOT go to Minnesota to play basketball. The only reason you guys got Kris Humphries was because KU players told Roy they would refuse to play with him.

And when you have players who have lower skill sets, then obviously they are going to struggle against zones because they can’t shoot. Would you rather be Northwestern and have a bunch of skilled players who arn’t atheltic enough to compete in the big 10?

Minnesota is only relevant because of Tubby, because before him I can’t remember them being anything to talk about.
