Charlie SheenParticipantHassan Whiteside–Can he be a better more consistent version of Tyson Chandler if the Hornets picked him or a team that likes the pick a roll lob play a lot like Chicago if he fell.
Damion James–I think he can play a major role on a contender. His athleticsm is crazy and with the defensive stopper becoming an important position in league a lot of teams can use his versatility
Xavier Henry–If he falls to a Chicago, Boston or Milwaukee I think he will be in the ROY conversation because he can knock down shots consitently and defend a lil on the perimeter
Just curious to know what others think

JNixonParticipantWhiteside seems like the type of player that will be a project his 1st 2 seasons and then he’ll be a rotation guy. I think at best he can be a Marcus Camby type, but I think he’s more along the lines of being a Samuel Dalembert. A long-armed shot-blocker (not post defender…big difference) who has a raw post game, a streaky mid-range shot, and a decent rebounder. Seems like a 4th or 5th option offensively too.
Damion James got so much more legit as an NBA prosect by coming back for his Senior year. He developed a consistent mid-range game, improved his handle, and continued to defend and rebound at the same high level. Also tested as one of, if not the best athlete in last year’s draft combine so athleticism isn’t in question either. I think he can be a legit 3rd option for a team, but he seems more like a 4th option on a true contender. Also has value as a rebounder and a potentially big time defender.
Xavier Henry is a shooter, but he can do more. More athletic than given credit for. He is a nice passer too. He was quietly one of the very best defenders in the Big 12. I think he will be a nice defender and shooter immediately. I think 7-9 ppg is reasonable for him as a rookie, and he can potentially be a 2nd or 3rd option in the future if he improves his ball-handling. That holds him back a good bit currently. Will have a role though in the NBA immediately.

tedwards83ParticipantHe’s a lot more agile than Dalembert, and Dalembert would have been a lot better if it weren’t for injuries, and I think the hook shot whiteside has can become a weapon.
Camby was insanely fast in his prime, at one point playing minutes at the three, I don’t see Whiteside doing that. But he will fill out and be a lot stronger than Camby

tedwards83ParticipantTo the actual question
Hassan Whiteside is big time boom or bust…I will say he will solid if not spectacular especially if his body fills out like Chandler’s never could. He has wide shoulders like D Howard… But he will likely be somewhere in between Chandler and Ben Wallace in his prime, though perhaps not as dominant a rebounder.
Damion James did a lot at Texas, problem is at 23 his potential is probably maxed and he does have some flaws moving laterally, that could have been due to some lagging injuries. He’ll get minutes early in his career but is likely a 7th, 8th man type because he cant dribble
I am super high on Xavier Henry, I watched him and his brother play since they were in Middle School. Point blank, he’s polished and can shoot, you don’t have to be a freakish athlete in the NBA if you are willing to be patient and be smart, i.e. Brandon Roy was a top ten player this season and he is merely an above average athlete. The teams you listed would be great, I would love to see him go to the bucks and replace Michael Redd and give their wing rotation a little more pop. If they had him this year, even without Bogut they are in the second round(being swept by the Magic, lol) not the Pigeons(Hawks)
