AusBobParticipant2016 Olympics: if Curry and Thompson just continues to grown maturely, the duo will represent USA and their shooting ability will eventually make Team USA unbeatable for a good number of years. Their personalities and professional approach for the game will allow them to blend smoothly in to a team with the luxury of operating around James and Durant.
2016 USA Roster (All healthy & Injury free)
PG Rose Irving Westbrook
SG Harden Thompson
SF Durant George
PF James Anthony Love
C Davis LopezThis maybe a one of the more unique rosters for Team USA. With all players understanding their own roles and responsibilities, I believe their style will run team orientated offence and game length intense D and hopefully coached by Popovich. The team has solid potential to become unbeatable for a number of years under international rules.
Would love to see what type of intensive D Rose and Westbrook would be able to put on in late game situations or Curry and Thompson shooting Team USA to blow out wins.

Forte IVParticipantI don’t think the team needs both. Just Curry would do. In ’08 team USA just had Redd, plus those other guys can shoot the three ball just as good as Thompson.

AusBobParticipantThompson’s size at 6-7 and defensive fundamentals will be def looked at for 2016. if you watch closely on his games, his defense is actually very effective. Quick lateral moment and body control. with couple of more years under his belt, his matured J will force selectors to take a serious look at him.

TyroberParticipantYou didn’t add Curry to your list, only Thompson. Who would you be replacing with Curry? Rose, Irving, or Westbrook?

AusBobParticipantThank you for pointing it out.
I really cant see the US cutting either Westbrook Rose or Irving. So maybe would need to take off George (unless his jumper improves to another level).0 - Posted on: Wed, 05/15/2013 - 4:31pm #775123

Memphis MadnessParticipantYeah, this team would be a lot of fun to see. I can see us only taking two legit bigs and then maybe add another point guard. I am not sure how they can leave off Rose or Westbrook or Irving or Curry.
I think Paul George might be the odd man out, as they will also have LeBron, Durant, Carmelo, and Harden on the wing.
You also have to think about going with Noah and Roy Hibbert inside. Or Greg Monroe. You have to think, who will stop Spain with Marc Gasol (and maybe still Pau and Serge Ibaka?). They might need some extra defense inside.
You can’t count out Blake Griffin either. He has legit power forward size and would give us an above-the-rim big man. He also looks like a guy who would be fun to play with. An inside combo of him and Joakim Noah might not be the absolute best talent wise, but they would be a great fit complementary wise with Noah’s defense, rebounding, passing, and shot blocking, and Blake’s dunking, alley-oops, and power moves. Plus, they would also drive the opponents absolutely nuts!
Anthony Davis would bring length and versatility to the 4 and 5 spots. He can run the floor, finish, and make some defensive plays. Hopefully his face up game is even better by then. He would give us another good shot blocker along with Noah. A.D. also doesn’t need the ball much to be effective. He would also be going against more finesse guys so he won’t be beat up much. Then Kevin Love would be a scoring, shooting, and rebounding beast. You could put Love with any other big and they would do very well.
This could be the team:
PG: Rose
Westbrook
Kyrie Irving
Steph CurrySG: James Harden
SF: Kevin Durant
Carmelo AnthonyPF: LeBron James
Kevin Love
Blake GriffinC: Joakim Noah
Anthony DavisThis makes for 12 guys. It looks a little thin at shooting guard, but KD is basically an oversized 2 guard, plus we also have Westbrook and Curry to shoot and score.
I like the big man rotation. Something for everyone. However, it looks like the last spot is down to Blake Griffin if they want to go big, or Klay Thompson for shooting, or Paul George for more help on the wing. I can also see them looking at Kawhi Leonard, Kenneth Faried, Greg Monroe, and Roy Hibbert.
I would also find it hard to believe if CP3 or Kobe wanted to play again, and they weren’t on the team. Chris Paul, as some pointed out, would only be 31, and Kobe could end his career on a high note in Rio. Seeing big Tim Duncan here might be fun too. He and Kobe could win another gold medal and then retire on top.

mike_r232ParticipantI know Dwight had a sub par season as far as Dwight goes, but how are people not putting him on this team? Granted, he might not accept the invite, but I see him as more of a possibility than Lopez. Another dark horse center will be Andre Drummond. We need to remember that he is still very young (reclassified to graduate early and join UConn). He has a world of talent and could possibly make this team. But, 2016 is far away, who knows. As far as Curry, I think he makes this team as of right now. He might play more at SG than at PG which should be fine with people like Rose, Westbrook, and Irving playing PG. Also, a lot of teams play a smaller lineup these days anyways, he’d be great off the ball more.

King CaluchaParticipantI think Westbrook is more suited to play the 2 in international competition… as he did past summer. Curry’s game fit perfectly because stretching the floor is more important in zone-happy tournaments like this.

festar35ParticipantPaul George will make it for his defensive/all around purpose (ala Iguodala)a player like that always has a place. Especially guys like Iggy and George who are willing to front up on defensive end and not worry about scoring as much.
