SiggyParticipantWho doesn’t have lift in their legs? Both of them? I agree. Cuzz’ lack of lift is the reason why he doesn’t finish as well as he should and why he gets his shot blocked a lot despite his massive bulk and wingspan (which BTW Dakari does not have).
The Shaq comparison was ridiculous when it was made, which was like 2 yrs ago I think, and it looks even more ridiculous now. Maybe they made that comparison with the hope that Dakari would grow more, but he hasn’t.
Dakari’s a decent prospect, not special or not even lotto type, but he plays big, knows how to use his body, plays tough, is smart and is fundamentally sound. I could see him carving out a similar to role to what Kosta Koufos does now for the Nugs.

GREENE1148ParticipantDemarcus Cousins might be a better comp? I hate when people compare a high-schooler to a HOFer…

MalcolmxParticipantHe isn’t shaq and probably won’t ever be. That comparison has been up since he was in 9th grade because at the time he was a 6’9 freshman with good skills and they thought he may get really athletic. He did grow up to 7 feet(i’ve seen him up close in person, next to a 6’10 kid),but he isn’t quick or a high riser. but he has good post moves and has a big body. I think at best he can become sort of like Marc Gasol because he has a ton of skills. He dimes the ball to cutting guards, makes free throws, has a good post game. Marc Gasol would be his ceiling I can’t think of his floor.

BalltilufallParticipantHe will be as good as some think. He will probably play sparingly in Kentucky, then go to the draft get picked on potential and not be able to develop it in the NBA. I hope not but have a feeling.

SiggyParticipantIf he plays sparingly that would be a shame. I think he’s already a better basketball player than WCS.

CAROLINA BLUE NICKParticipantYea the lack of dominant big men in the league has made it so that people are quick to compare a potential dominant big man prospect to an NBA hall of famer. He reminds me of Andrew Bogut right now. Hopefully he won’t be as injury prone.

rabidsnowmanParticipantI compared him with Derrick Coleman. I was wrong, though, as Cousins has tools that Coleman did not have. At this point, I see Dakari Johnson as a similar player, albeit without the lateral quickness and explosiveness of Cousins. So, my comparison is Derrick Coleman.
