a few days ago i made a thread about Flynn and now once again it’s interesting for me to hear your opinions about other rookie DeMar DeRozan.

superstars potential V.Carter(or even Kobe) comparisons in high school.. average season in USC and bust potential before the draft..now he is still nothing special but he had pretty decent rookie season..
still young with a lot of promises..so it would be very interesting to hear you guys opinions about this kid(because i feel there will be some very different opinions)

He had a solid rookie season with Toronto. Watching most the games, you can see he improved every single game

He is a a lot like Gerald Green right know as far as skill but he is way smarter (not like that is saying a whole lot) but he has a good work ethic and will get better. If he was an average spot up shooter his value would go through the roof.

I think even if he doesn’t improve much more he will at least be a Desmond Mason type player

If DeRozan gets decent minutes (25+ a game) for the next two years, he most likely will become a poor man’s Andre Iguodala without the play making skills.

And coming from the 9th spot in the draft, I’d say that’s pretty good value

They need to give him the ball in transition and watch out…There are flaws in everyone’s game…You have to play to a player’s strength…If he’s the SG of the future…Start him…play him big minutes and see what you have for 35 minutes and 82 games…let’s see his true value…Can he be the New Vince or TMac…you have to play him to see…pair him with another stud wingman and Center that can defend…You love it if they drafted White Side and he becomes another Camby…S and T Bosh and get stud wing man or point guard….

mason was better then Derozan is now, but if Derozan works he could pass mason I think. People say his work ethic is good so i have no doubt he can improve on his weaknesses.

DeRozan was good in transition, showed a nice medrange jumper and played nice D. If he continues to develop I see him like what Ron Artest is now – a good defender that knocks down open shots

I personally think DeRozan has the gifting to be a really good player, but the Raptors need to stop playing in in the SG slot. He is not a good enough shooter would be much better suited in the slashing role of a SF. But with every passing game he continues to improve.

What difference does it make weather he plays the SG or SF? I’m sure if he’s listed as the SG, his role isnt narrowed to only defended Shooting Guards, nor would his offensive style be limited to only shooting. The guy is a wing no matter which way you slice it. He is not a good jump shooting wing. Therefor it would be wise for him to be paired with a guy who can stroke it.

And to the guy who said he will be like Iguadala without the playmaking skills: Isnt that what Iguadala does best? Thats like saying he’ll be like Steve Nash without the passing skills (thats what makes him Steve Nash). Why make that comparison if one of the main attributes of a player arent comparable?

Personally I think Derozan will be a solid role player, a guy who can excell in transition and be a solid defender, but he’s not going to be a cornerstone for a franchise. He could be a starter on a playoff team, but he wont be a top 3 scorer.

I see a good athlete who makes plays in transition, has a solid mid-range shot and the potential to be a great defender. He’s only decent on D right now, but he’s young and did noticeably get better on that end this season. I think he’s going to be an ideal 4th option offensively, but depending on how bad the team is he could be a 3rd option. I think his most upside is on the defensive end. I don’t think he’s all that talented offensively, but he can be a 13 or 14 ppg scorer if he polishes up his game.

Oh, and he’s not comparable to Iguodala. Doesn’t have that kind of passing/playmaking ability (as you said), but he’s also not as good a ball-handler or scorer (even though Iguodala’s not a truly great scorer).

I think derozan does not have the creative one on one game or ball handling to be anything too special. I compared him to richard jafferson in college and thats what im sticking with. He has a very similar skill set once he puts it together.
