As the season comes to an close, the pistons are obviously trying to tank these remaining games. So, the two part question of the day is: 1. Who should the pistons draft? 2. What free agent(s) should the pistons target in the off season?

As for the draft(assuming we get a pick from 6-10 range), I would take a hard look at Alex Len, as well as Marcus Carter-Williams(if he can slide down to the late 20 range, we can trade a player for that pick, but he is not worth using a 6-10 pick on him), also Glenn Robinson lll from Michigan.

Personally, I think that the pistons should add more athleticism in the their front court. Anyone who watches the pistons games notices that Greg Monroe is a liability on defense. Also at the SF spot Kyle Singler is not a starter, and his shooting is overrated. With that being said, he need an athletic SF (like Igoudala as an option). Also, I would entertain offers for Monroe. Personally, I think that the LaMarcus Aldridge- Drummond would be a good pick-and pop/roll duo, once they get a pure point guard(re-sign Calderon?).

Assuming Drummond is back and healthy next year he will cover for a lot of Monroe’s defensive lapses. I think you should look for a big SF who can guard quicker 4’s that Monroe can’t. I don’t think it would be worth using an extremely high pick on another front court player when you have so many other needs. Perhaps try and grab Paul Millsap in free agency to round out the front court if Utah lets him go

I would go after Marcus Smart because we are in dire need of a PG that has court vision. Calderon is old but will be good for a few more years. However, it is better to get a younger one that can develop. I think the Pistons see Knight more like a SG now.

Either Ben Maclemore or Otto Porter would be their best fits for prospects.

If they win lotto, draft BMac and slide Brandon Knight to 6th man combo guard and let bynum walk and release Stuckey to save team 4 million. Use Kim English and Kris Middleton as extra depth for sg and sf. Maybe throw a small contract at Corey Brewer to start at sf and play 15-20mins a night. Re-sign Calderon 3yr 15-20mil.

If Porter, look into guys like Mayo, Reddick, even Tyreke Evans. Depending on what they can get Knight might remain as sg starter. Still hope for Calderon re-signing.

edit* Since they will have a lot of cap space and teams are going to be looking to shed money since new cba increasing luxury taxes, they might be able to steal away a good player just to save another team a lot of $$. Another thing I’d like to see is them to try and pick up another mid round pick and tab Trey Burke. Have Calderon start the upcoming year then swap their roles and have them play similar role to how Lawson and Andre Miller do in Denver.

Ben McLemore. He is a go-to guy with deep range. Singler is ok, if they upgrade there then they could use a defense-first guy.

I don’t know if Marcus Smart is a true point guard. If not then he will be another tweener combo guard, and they have plenty of those now.

I think they have to see what the Greg Monroe/Andre Drummond combo can give them. Then get a perimeter scorer they can go to for baskets. I think Ben McLemore fits well there.

If they have a second round pick and if Joe Jackson declares, he might be worth looking at. He’s pretty small but he’s not afraid to take big shots and he has plenty of swagger. He could be a poor man’s Isiah Thomas for them if he pans out.

Assuming Det. remains in the 6-10 range, their obvious choice will be to draft GRIII. He fits a need at the 3, and let’s not forget he attends Michigan. Another benefit is this leaves the need at both guard positions and still gives Knight the opportunity to prove that he can be either their pg or sg. If they are dead set on Knight being their SG, then they must consider taking MCW with their pick, even though you think this may be too high for him. With Knight being 6’2, he will need a taller PG alongside him. MCW can do ok guarding SGs since Drummond will be manning the post.
Also- about your concerns about Monroe, ya he is slow, that why they were estatic to have Drummond fall to them. He has the rare defensive presence to make the entire team’s defense better than the individual parts.

For the Pistons…when healthy their starting five is good. But I’ve seen better benches at a freshman girls game. Drafting the best player at the time of their pick would be perfect…whom ever that is…big dude. swing, point…whatever.
