Detroit Pistons
The pistons are ok, if monroe improves his outside shot and drummond improves his free throw shooting those 2 could be a great big man combination. They just need to find every other position, knight is ok. They need a starting wing. Singler is a solid to good bench player, so he should be apart of the future of the team. But I definitely wouldnt mess with their big men, that is the one thing the y have going for them.
They need a wing like Shabazz or McLemore who could develop into a 20 point a game scorer. They aren't going to be competing for a title within the next couple years anyway so if I were them I would keep their roster as is and focus on developing their young players. Bringing in a volatile talent like Cousins certainly isn't worth the risk.
Drummond and Monroe complement each other perfectly; they can both pass well, they are both mobile, but Drummond scores in the pick and roll, and Monroe scores on the low block, which is exactly what you want from your bigs, instead of the LA situation where they have two low-post scorers clogging up the paint.
Monroe IMO is the potential cornerstone of the Detroit team going forward and I see no logic in trading him especially for a guy who plays a similar style to his team mate and who is from the same draft class as Monroe.
Detroit have either drafted well in recent years or good players have fell to far and Joe Dumars has been smart enough to nab them. Bazz or McLemore would be ideal for Detroit I fully agree being able to play SG/SF going forward and having someone like Tayshaun Prince to help mentor them.
Cozens has to go to a solid veteran team, with a great locker room, hardcore pro work ethic, and a coach who can handle a player with that much emotional baggage. On paper I think he would be a good fit for Detroit, but not when you factor in the other stuff.
Best case for Cozens, he goes to Boston, but I'm not sure that is too likely. Doc is one of the few coaches who could put up with and deal with that kind of grief, and the backbone of the Cs lockeroom is one of the best in sports. Even in that case it would be a bit of a gamble. Especially with how things are going in Boston right now.
Sometimes you should be carefull what you wish for.
Dumb trade idea but I was a little disappointed that Monroe didn't improve this year (I drafted him 35th overall in my fantasy league), and I love his game.
Anybody who watches a lot of Pistons games, what's your take on his lack of improvement?
to answer birds_years question... I wouldn't say that Monroe hasn't improved... he started out nice to start the yr... then there was a stretch where Drummond was taking his minutes in the forth qtr of games... and to andre's credit... he played pretty damn well when given those minutes.... look at his minutes in December... got only 30 a game despite being our teams best player... but he also misses a lot of easy shots that he should make hence his 47% shooting this yr compared to his I think 52% last yr.... he doesn't have a celling that's to high.... but hes gnna improve for a couple years to come
I don't think Monroe has regressed, but he certainly hasn't improved. IMO, he's a better face up big than a post up big because of his ability to put the ball on the deck. The problem with that is that he has developed no mid-range or even a short-range jumper. This guy is shooting 29% from the field outside of 3 feet. 29%!
That's terrible. I was watching them play the Bulls the other night and I was wondering why Noah was playing Monroe the way that he was. Monroe would catch the ball at the elbow and even closer and Noah was playing off of him by like 2 feet, daring him to shoot.
Also, in the post he's big and strong, but he only goes over his right shoulder. He has no counter over his left shoulder since he has no turnaround jumper.
For him to take that next step, he's gonna have to develop some semblance of a jumper. To be this poor outside of 3 feet away from the basket is kinda pathetic, especially for a guy who although strong, isn't athletic enough to physically impose himself.
The pistons are in need of a superstar and by drafting a rookie, you still aren't gonna solve your problem by next season. Monroe is reached his ceiling, If i was Joe Dumars, I would trade Monroe for Cousins, while his stock is high. Cousins would be nice next to Drummond. Every shot with Monroe seems like a struggle, now that other teams know how to play him it sort of limits us with our low post play. And no player on the pistons roster averages no more than 15 ppg. With Cousins, they get a got to scorer who can at least average 20 a night and could get the pistons over those later quarter droughts, and help them close out games.
And Monroe would add disipline to the Kings roster. Also he could serve as a point center, and could open the floor for Thorton and Evans. Also monroe doesn't serve as a 3rd option scorer so there wouldn't be much pressure on him in sacramento. Also they would have a leader im the locker room
