"Wow that was 1 crazy trade today," Oklahoma City center Kendrick Perkins tweeted. "Are you serious Rudy Gay is right there under KD, Lebron, Kobe, and Melo. (hashtag)badtrade."
So what do you think is Rudy Gay right under the four best swingmen in the league?
Personally I feel like there are a bunch of other swjngmen better than Rudy Gay...Dwyane Wade, Paul Pierce, James Harden, to name a few then there are a bunch who are least as good as Gay...Paul George, Danny Granger, Luol Deng, Andre Igoudala to name a few.
If there were tiers the first being super stars, the second being stars, and the third good players then Gay would be no higher than the third tier in my opinion.
Talent wise this guy has the ability of those top tier guys like Durant and Lebron.....but mentally i dont think Gay gets it, u just watch the guy play and see how naturally talented he is and smooth he is and it frustrates you because you wonder why he can't put it all together on a consistent basis. 17 ppg is nothing to frown at but when you look at a guy that talented you can just see there is so much more potential there and room to grow. Rudy is as skilled and talented as anyone in the league but i think he lack mental toughness and a killer instinct. Imo thats what i think ultimately holds him back from reaching that top tier level.
As for his play...the level he plays at falls right into the category with your Luol Deng, Danny Granger, and Andre Iguodala's. But there is no doubt he is capable of so much more.
Be careful talking about how wrong he is about him, Gay is in a situation where he'll have the green light for the first time in years, and while he still got plenty of shots in Memphis, it's just a different mentality to being the clear 1st option.
I've always agreed with Kendrick, he's right there with the top swingmen, and I'd say he's better than half the SFs you just named, he's my 4th SF hands down.
Gay may put up better numbers being an undisputed number 1 option in Toronto. I'd imagine his scoring and rebound average increases, but it will be interesting to see if his field goal percentage gets better. A lot of guys have better looking numbers on bad teams simply because they have to do more for their team to have a chance, but often they aren't very efficient. Time will tell how Gay does.

I think that sums Gay up pretty well.
Gay's a young player who we can still talk about him potentially getting it all together and it would be great for Toronto if he did, but I have yet to be convinced that Gay can be in the star category let alone super star category.
I agree with Perkins 100%... And I bet a lotta players in the NBA feel the same way. Rudy is 26years old and hasnt figured it out yet. But he still has the ability that Lebron, KD, and Melo have. He's the 4th best SF. Those 4 players can go out and get a bucket from anywhere on the floor and against anybody. I dont feel like another small forward in the league can do that. Im shocked to see so many people who think less of Rudy. I read that according to one league executive, other GMs and Executives in the West (specifically Spurs, OKC, and Clippers) are really happy about the trade because Gay was their biggest Concern with stopping Memphis. Im not surprised. He was the only shot creator on the team. No knock to Z-Bo.
But I guess only time will tell...
It's not only fans that felt that way, obviously the Grizzlies didn't value him like the 4th best small forward in the league or they wouldn't have dealt him or at the very least they would've gotten better players in return.
I can see the Raptors being a 4th or 5th seed next year in the playoffs. Having lowery a underrated PG, DeRozan and Ross at the 2, alot of talent at the 3 spot, Amir and Acy to strong players who can get the rebounds, Bargnani spreading the floor, and a young and talented player at the 5 spot. Teams better watch they have alot of potential
