Davis vs. Drummond is like Okafor vs. Howard, do you want to be the tGM that doesn’t draft Howard?

If  I was a team GM I would have to take Drummond over Davis.

Davis? that guys is rail thin and will bounced around like a pinball if he doesn’t put on a ton of weight, what more has he shown than his ability to run and block shots… you don’t pass on potential superstars, that is exactly what drummond is..

All I can say is, Perry Jones III got heavily pushed around by Kevin Jones. Seems to me like Drummond did a lot of the pushing hear with 20 (9-11 FG, 2-4 FT), 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. Sure, Kevin Jones had 22 and 5, but he had 28 and 17 against Baylor.

The fact is, you want someone who can handle the trenches. Drummond looks like a guy who could definitely be that guy. Jones III does not right now and I do not think he is talented enough to play on the wing. Everyone he gets compared to seems to be much more developed than he was at a similar stage. At the very least, they were more aggressive, even if they did not have his size.

Anthony Davis is definitely a guy who has held his own in the post, at least done an admirable job at his current weight/strength, but he does not have Drummond’s size. That is why I think Drummond not only enters the draft, but is the likely top pick.

Davis is good on defense and is skillful, but him being so thin for a PF is a HUGE problem in the NBA. His body doesnt look like he can put any decent amount of weight on.

Davis is compared to Marcus Camby

Drummond is compared to Amare Stoudemire/Dwight Howard

    Why is there an argument?

We can’t go by comparisons alone if you look at Davis as a thin, athletic, great defender, with a lack of offensive skill you could easily make his comparison as Bill Russell.

Drummond had a very impressive game last night but from what I’ve seen of them all season I still take Davis.

This is not Howard vs. Okafor. Howard was picked based on his potential and Okafor was a college upperclassman with back problems. That draft was about Howard’s potential vs. the finished product Okafor. I think everyone agrees that both guys have great potential. This is more like Oden vs. Durant and Rose vs. Beasley not in how Davis and Drummond play the game but in the fact that they are very close is age.

Because comparisons can mean different things. It’s not necessarily a projection for future output.

Steve Blake’s NBA comparison was John Stockton. That was a solid comparison, though nobody actually thought Blake was going to be a future Hall-of-Famer like Stock was.

yeah Drummond is BEAST, the giant..

but slow down on Anthony he is still a sure fire all defensive potential and his touch shows he will get his jump shot and go-to post move and he is already improving on it..and to say he hasn’t the body to add some weigh is ABSOLUTELY false, look at his body at age of 18 and Henson at 21..though they are both 220 Anthony’s shoulders is nearly twice wider he actually has GREAT ability to add some good mass..he will be in 240s in three years  book it

Now that you mention it, Davis and John Henson have striking similar body frame. It’s john Henson 3rd year now in college. Hmmmm. I can’t tell if he has put on any weight since his first year.

I take that back John Henson looks like he has gained atleast 30 pounds. Now that I see a picture from his freshmen year, Damn that guy is still kinda thin.

no they aren’t similar…Henson was between 180-190 at age of Davis and now he is 215-220 with no more ability to get stronger(he could but he would be less athletic)

Anthony is 220 with still much much to add on those wide shoulders..not saying he is going to be monster but AT LEAST Bosh type of body

If you go and look up Chris Bosh at Geoargia Tech, Kevin Garnett in his rookie year in the league, Marcus Camby at Umass, Kevin Durant at Texas, and Tayshaun Prince as Ky you will see that Anthony Davis has a wider frame than all those guys. I think his frame is similiar to Tim Duncan his freshman year at Wake Forest. If you go to the accvault website and search for 1994 there is a Wake Forest vs. North Carolina game from Tim Duncan freshman year and Duncan’s frame then looks very similiar to Anthony Davis’. I think Tim Duncan as a Freshman/Sophmore is the closest comparison I can find for Davis’ frame.

@Future_Scout; you’ve got to take into account the timing of your negs, when you said it a lot of people obviously disagreed, since then Drummond has gone the other way and Davis has continued to rise. Are you seriously going to go back to every thread you said "Davis>Drummond" and got negged on and drop a "smh"?

Also, you might be jumping the gun just a tad, because it’s not as if either of them have played an NBA game yet, so while you might be right about draft position, you still haven’t got any evidence to back up your statement that Davis is the better pick than Drummond.

The only people who will think you look like an idiot are idiots themselves who judge people solely on points. If you post something controversial and express it poorly then people will think you’re an idiot because of your negs, if you express it well and justify your controversial opinion then the people who actually read your posts who aren’t idiots themselves will ignore the negatives when making a judgement.

You say points are meaningless to you, but you went to four or five threads you commented in a few months back where you made generally controversial statements (at the time) without a proper explanation of your reasoning (for the most part) and complained about the points. Going back to those threads and saying "I was right about this prospect" would have been irritating enough, but going back and also whining about points is going to make you look like more of an idiot than the initial negs did/would.

I generally don’t mind you as a poster, but I’m sick of people coming on here complaining because not everyone buys into their alternative opinions and throwing the words "hater" around when people disagree, despite the fact that they are opinions most people will disagree with by their very nature of being alternative or differential. Oh, and people who state "I don’t care about points" and then complain about losing them as soon as a few negs pile up.

Yes, there are going to be people on the internet who make stupid or insulting responses to innovative or alternative thoughts, but responding in a childish manner or lowering yourself to their level will only lump you in with that group of people yourself.

"potential… is all drummond is, much like perry jones. davis > drummond."

That would be the comment in this thread which earned you 15 negs. How did you explain yourself exactly?

Again, I’m not trying to hate on you, but a comment like that on a thread which was created to discuss Drummond’s development/performance during a game, with no mention of Davis or any claims of his greatness relative to Davis which would require that comment is very much deserving of negatives in my opinion.

So saying "I’m always getting negged for stuff I shouldn’t be" on a thread when you were quite justifiably negged and then subsequently complained about it is somewhat contradictory. I’m not saying you’ve done this in every post, but in this particular thread, you’d earn a lot of respect if you’d just admit you were right to be negged and wrong to complain about it even further.

within a few games into the season it was clearly davis>drummond

none of them got fed that much (at the beginning of the season) but davis managed to score while drummond disappeared. and more than that, davis looked like he wanted to take over… everything indicated davis>drummond

Want to know why you get negs? Read what I wrote to Cheyenne initially on this post:

    http://www.nbadraft.net/forum/cons-point-system-need-new-point-system-aram

You can read the second thing too if you want. Future_Scout, I actually think you know your stuff. Thank you for what you wrote about me, but I think you are indeed, at times, lazy. Not everyone needs to go into excruciating details on posts (I tend to have my reasons for doing so at times, but do not expect everyone too).

Still, look at your original post. You went into no detail after Drummond had a great game against a guy who lit up Perry Jones. I think people were negging you more for the comment than your < symbol. Here are my issues I have with the way you have handled certain things:

    • When you get negative feedback, you complain about it and usually lead to a name call of some sort. Not necessarily the best way to handle it. Maybe, just maybe, state your opinion more thoroughly? If that does not work, than, not giving a f#ck is a good route. If you think you are right and someone only negs you to say otherwise, they are probably not worth your time.
    • You say "so and so is underrated". Way too much. It is a slight pet peeve of mine and the key to a person being underrated is being rated at all. If we have no idea of where you rate these players, how are they all underrated? Again, not the end of the world, just pointing it out.
    • When you are right about something, you are the first person to give yourself credit. Know the best thing to do: know this yourself, keep making right observations and have other people give you credit. Otherwise, you just seem arrogant. I am not saying you are, but it is the internet, we only know your personality by what you type. If you keeping patting your own back, people might think you are arrogant.
    • It seems like you can indeed agree to disagree, a good quality. But, if you can’t take constructive criticism, it is just disheartening. My thing is, I know this is just a message board, but I appreciate thought going into posts here. As much fun as twitter is, I think a well thought out analysis rather than just a bunch of quick hitters is much more rewarding to the reader (the people who are looking at your posts)

There is a poster you are quoting who NEVER took constructive criticism. He always stayed in his own mindset and was always quick to pat himself on the back, but never really went back to when he may not have been right (which, I think we all know, happens and it is better to live up to it rather than block it from your mind).

His posts were not always well researched, sometimes not researched, sometimes way after the fact of an event that everyone was pretty much over. He rarely took a stand and when he did, blamed everyone else for not necessarily agreeing with him rather than maybe re-evaluating or analyzing what he wrote. A -1 could be "a sorry @ss player hater". Or, it could be a message, maybe to improve your content and re-analyze the way you come across.

You actually do take a stand. I personally like that. I love unconventional thinking, as long as it has analysis or data to back it up. You have a lot of potential as a poster, but you are blaming everyone else rather than looking at what you yourself can improve. If you think people have given you a bad rap, change there perception rather than blaming the way they see things. B!tching about negs gets you negs. Using negs as motivation to improve makes you a better poster and this a better site than it already is.
