yaboymalParticipantHow Good would this current usa team be if Dwight Howard was playing? In my eyes he would make the game alot easier for this team like catching lobs finishing dump off passes by penetrating guards and cleaning up rebounds that they are not getting due to lack of size.(although they are doing a great job despite their lack of size) Do you guys think the usa team would win gold easy if he was playing?

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantYes. I feel Howard should be playing. These are games where he could dominate and get more exposure. He isin’t above this to me. He’s 25 and still hasn’t developed the low post game for us to say ” Damn, he could be the guy in the NBA”
In fact: Other then scoring. Dwight Howard is a healthy Greg Oden as far as I’m concerned.

IknoBall12Participantdwight would really create a inside problem if he was playing. he would prob be the mvp becuz he would be a monster on the boards and on defense. and like u said alley oops would come easy

sheltwon3Participanta healthy Greg Oden is one of the top centers in the league so that is not really a dis. It is more saying what Oden could be if he were healthy. I also think Oden has a better post game or pretty close to Howard at his age that Howard has right now.

thunderforthewinParticipantif dwight was playing usa would win all their games by 40-50 instead of 20-30
can’t you americans be happy with that!0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/29/2010 - 2:24pm #389359

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI never said it as a dis. I said it as what he is right now and where he should be.
A healthy GO is a top defensive center in the NBA but cannot do damage offensively in a playoff series like Howard’s done in the past.
Howard did very well ( to some: Dominated) that 09 Cleveland series. Imagine if he had monster post moves.

doubledribblerParticipantOf course they would be better with him. He would add some much needed size and defense. Their chances of winning gold would go up greatly.
I don’t think he is above it, but not everyone wants to play basketball year round. The NBA is a long long season, especially for guys that start on good teams and are playing close to 40 mins a game. If you notice a lot of NBA non-Americans aren’t playing either. Howard has his Olympic gold, will likely decide to go for the Olympics in London, but honestly an NBA championship probably means a lot more to him. That is what most of the Americans have grown up watching and idolizing about. From anything I remember there wasn’t huge coverage of Olympic basketball in the states until the dream team. After that there still seemed to not be much of that or FIBA until the U.S. team didn’t win an Olympic gold. Hopefully he is still taking the time to work on his game. Some of the best work a person can do is in the gym alone and even outside the gym.

yaboymalParticipantdwight howard is very frustrating he has so much potential he could be one of the greatest centers of all time he already has proven what a dominant big man he is defensively..with the athleticism he has he could be so dominant but he really needs to develop some post moves, he has no post game he has one move which is a drop step to his left and throws up that little left handed jump hook that looks so mechanical and he gets the majority of his points off of dunks put backs layups etc. I mean I dont see why he cant work with hakeem or a great big man coach to put together his offensive game and what if he had a little 15 footer oh man he would be unstoppable, we cant keep using the he is young excuse anymore its time he puts everything together im not bashing him hes a great player I just wanna see the complete package put together he has all the physical tools who knows how good he could be
heres a interesting article that has a little to do with what im talking about: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/445870-two-roads-how-high-will-dwight-fly

SteroidParticipantDwight doesn’t even need monster post moves. He could have a above average post up/face up game, and he’d be averaging somewhere close 25 ppg. Not to mention that he averages 10 FGA which is very low for a supposed superstar.
Dwight really effects the game without you having to run plays through him. Big men usually set the tone and dictate how well a team will play defensively, so they’d probably be blowing teams out a lot more.

yaboymalParticipantman I tell you if he had post moves a little 15 footer and got his freethrow shooting up to the 70’s theres no telling how good he could be let me just say this would happen: dwight howard and kevin durant would be battling for mvp for the next 5 years and of course Durant is going to Run the league 5 years hes ridiculous I still cant believe hes only 21

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantHe needs more post moves. There’s a reason he doesn’t get as many touches then he think he deserves. He doesn’t have the post moves that a superstar big needs to command the ball on the low block every play.

yaboymalParticipantyea you got a point but I still would like him to get more touches the magic’s chances of winning go up when they give the ball to dwight more because even if he is not trying to score he is creating so much attention that he can kick it out for a an easy jumper.. its better then them just passing the ball around and jacking up 3’s that is one bad habit that they get into sometimes

That’s all he does now. That’s why they win now. In the playoffs, his lack of post moves cost Orlando that series a bit. Wallace and Perkins knew how to stop him and to me, Wallace knew how to stop him 3 years ago. That shows little to NO development to me.

SteroidParticipantHe doesn’t need post moves like a Paul Gasol or something. Shaq didn’t have a wide variety of post moves, but the post moves he used, they were unstoppable because either you’d have to foul him because he was too strong or you let him get an easy two. If Dwight could develop better fundamentals and footwork, the rest will take care of itself because he is stronger than probably 99% of the players in the NBA and he is athletic. Dwight’s go-to move is that baby hook, and although that doesn’t fit his playstyle, that is a start. Even though people say Dwight uses brute force too much, I think that is actually a good thing with the exception of the fouls. I think if he can stay away from nonsense fouls, then he’d be fine.

McWinningParticipantThe thing is with Oden we never got a chance to see if he has a low post game, in 24 minutes he averaged 11 points on 60% shooting almost completely off tip ins, and lobs.
He was their fifth option so he didnt get very many chances, they didnt run any plays for him. it would be interesting to see how he did if he was a second, or even first option on a team.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI don’t think he can be a 1st or 2nd option to be honest. He’s not that great of a low post offensive player. He’s really raw, all he has is the hook shot and that’s shaky at best.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI don’t think he can get 17 off sheer power because he has NO positioning on offense or defense in the low post to me. He get ticky tack fouls and I wouldn’t be shocked if he led the NBA in fouls if he was a 2nd option.
Not to mention, if Oden is your 2nd option- I’m guessing your losing 50 games that season.
