dont want to jump to any early conclusions, but man is he looking like the Elton brand from the past… averaging  18 ppg, 9.6 rpg,1.8 bpg, and 2.6 spg  (21/9 at Wash) followed up with (25/12/2) against indiana..(3) 20 point gms so far and is averaging 18 ppg, 9.6 rpg,1.8 bpg, and 2.6 spg.. Just wanted to show some Love, i have been one of his biggest haters the last 2 yrs….

Will this continue?? These are all star consideration #’s… I know I know.. its only been 5 gms, but last yr dude had (12) 20 pt gms and this year hes already got (3) 5 gms in….. if his final season averages are 17ppg / 8-9 rpg / 1.5 bpg i can not complain.. Dude is doing his damn thing..

Was thinking the same thing… He looks like he dropped some weight and has been much more active and effective than last season.

How is his explosiveness? Does he seem like he’s gotten most of it back, or has he just learned to play without that part of his game.

you know his midrange game has looked silky smooth..His explosiveness seems back but i think its mostly do to him being in better shape now than he has ever been..  Supposedly his body fat is down to 6 %.. which means he is in tremendous shape if that figure is true. He seems to have a non stop motor again defending, and attacking the glass.. Im not 100 % sold being 5 games in, but with all the flack he has taken from many people (including myself) i figured id eat my words for a minutes and give this man some props…

His best number? 36.8 MPG. That’s huge!

That being said the Sixers still don’t seem good enough to make the playoffs and he’s 31 and his enormous contract is still on the books for two more years after this one. If they can shed his salary and trade him to a team that wants to win now, they should pull the trigger, especially with his value rising.

i think we have outside shot at 8th seed, but i agree 1000000000% with your suggestion. As a rebuilding tm I would not be opposed to it, if he can keep this up he may be wanted elsewhere…I hope his stock keeps rising.

I think Elton Brand should play against the Pacers every night. Really, everyone should want to play a schedule that simpl rotates the Timberwolves, Pacers, Warriors, and Clippers. Career years for everybody.

Elton has had a good start to the season and if he keeps up his good form as his contract begins to run down then he may become tradeable. Doug Collins is still trying to sort out his system but last night’s win will have done their confidence good. Also except for last season over recent years the 76ers have always started slowly and looked like being high lottery teams but then hit form around the All Star game break and push towards the play offs.

You would hope that as the team gets used to Doug Collins’s system that they will improve and Evan Turner will find his feet in the NBA.

I think point would be for Brand is that he looks like his old self again. He’s not some scrub who never put up good numbers and who is beating up on teams that suck. He isn’t showing us anything new, he’s just doing it again.

"Timberwolves, Pacers, Warriors, and Clippers" (have you seen who he has played??)…. He has played indiana twice ill give you that, but he also played The Heat, The Wizards, and Atlanta Hawks… So out of 5 gms, hes played 2 tms who are killing it in Atlanta / Heat…

    vs atl – 20 pts / 8 boards / 1 steal (against horford / j-smoove)

    vs mia – (12 pts / 9 boards / 3 steals / 2 blocks)

so against playoff bound tms hes averaging 16 ppg / 8.5 rpg / 2 spg / 1 bpg…. dont get it twisted, those are solid #’s….

I have him on my fantasy team, and I was thinking of trading him before the season started, but I decided not too hoping that he would fair well this year. Turns out I was right. I’m glad I kept him.

All but one of his fgs were off assists. Congrats, that is one more than Serge Ibaka typically gets.

The way Brand is getting his numbers is different from how he established himself. He was great when he was the focal point of an offense and getting the ball in the post. His downfall in Philly, beyond his health, is the fact that the Sixers are a miserable perimeter shooting team. He gets doubled and the kickout cannot make them pay. He isn’t going to go back to what he was in 2006 an 2007. Being healthy will help him, as will playing 37 minutes a game, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is being used differently.

The big thing is hes finally healthy for the 1st time in 2 years,& worked hard in the offseason & lost like 20 to 30 pounds, hes in the best shape of his life,if he can stay healthy than I dont see a reason why he can’t continue being the 2010 guy that hes was for most of his career.

You are referencing "the old brand" who got doubled all the time…. this year is pretty much the first time hes seen double tms since coming here..I generally make comments on stuff im familiar with… to each is own in that dept apparently…..

He does look in better shape than he’s been probably for 3 years and if he’s drawing double teams then he’s already doing half his job by creating space for him time mates. He’s playing more minutes than in recent years but whilst it is encouraging lets wait a while to see if he is still an 18,10 player say come Xmas.

Um BTPH you may be thinking of last years Brand and not this years Brand.  Brand is playing the same way he has always played, and bullying people under the basket.  Last night against Hibbert, McRoberts, and Jones was a perfect example.  He was double a few times and instead of passing out he did what he use to do and what use to drive coaches crazy and thats head fake get em off their feet and just bull into them either getting the bucket or going to the line.

I said he was back before the season and got killed for posting the best Brand trade scenarios when everybody said he was done I said no and this is why.

Elton Brand for the first time in 3 years was not rehabilitating during the off season.

Let me repeat because its a huge deal, Brand for the first time in 3 years did not have to do any rehabilitating in the offseason.

Because of this he was able to rest and slowly work himself into basketball shape instead of just shape period.  Last year he played 76 games after a long off season of rehabilitation and still put up 13 and 6 despite being slower and chubbier then normal.

This year he is back to around 250, he was playing at around 270 last year, and has done a lot of resistance training to ensure his core is well stocked and there is no excess.  Doing this enables him to maintain his strength while adding his quickness.  Add that to the fact he is well rested and look what you have.

Brand’s deceptive explosiveness is back and look no further then the fact he is 3rd in the NBA in steals.  You see players throwing lazy bounce entry passes in the post and Brand snaking around the corners for the steal.  This will change once players realize Brand is not as slow footed as last year.

I think his numbers for the year will stay aroun 17 n 9.  His midrange game is beautiful this year too.

mr 19134.. i noticed a few times on entry passes into blatche.. he would deny that pass and come up with big steals, because Blatche was not strong enough to seal him off… He looks good.

yeah Brand puts pressure on your back when you try to seal him off then on the pass he let’s go and the players will automatically take a step back because he now has not resistance on his push and Brand steps right into that space for the steal.  It’s a veteran move and its working for him.  He should be able to get young post players all  year on it.

I’m extremely happy for Brand because he is such a hard worker and I knew he would eventually start having an impact again because he works too hard not too.  Sorta like Grant Hill and how he has battled the adversity to be a difference maker on the court.
