ThenilonatorParticipantHe may be seen as the unknown in the draft but he already has some high profile support being just signed to a multi year deal with Adidas.

For_Never_EverParticipantI have watched a few of his games on Youtube, not just highlights.
Thought this for awhile now that he is extremely overrated. However, he has a following and people are swearing how good he is/will be. But, I think it’s because he is a mystery international prospect, also the allure of being a 6’6 PG that has gotten a hold on people. It’s like when a 7ft international center has a crazy wingspand, people will automatically think he’ll be the best center.
Hopefully, I’m wrong about him though.

For_Never_EverParticipantHe doesn’t have the ball on a string like you would want from a PG. I would rate him having below average handles. Lacks range on his jumper, and isn’t a good set or off the dribble shooter. I didn’t get the sense he has great vision more of a guy that set plays not create. He is fast, but so are the majority of the pg’s in the league.
It’s obvious what his strengths are length, height, defense and speed. Phyically he is gifted, but I’m not sure that is enough to be the next great PG.

he_gets_bucketsParticipant^This guy gets it. Living in the same area as Dante, I have watched quite a fair few games of his over the years and it frustrates me on this site when people just regurgitate nonsense they read on sports blogs and ESPN about how this guy is a Penny Hardaway/Michael Carter-Williams type. He is NOT the passer you need your point guard to be. He is a score first combo, sure he may have a couple nights were he gets upwards of 5 assists, but dont expect that to be a regular. He will struggle his first year mightily with the height and length of NBA guys, but I expect him to make a strong impact early with his physical gifts and his finishing and slashing ability.

MopgrassParticipantIn terms of handle, I don’t think he’s been challenged yet. Let the NBA trainers get a hold of him. The fact that he can get to the rim no matter as fast he can with the height he has is the unusual part. It’s not unprecedented, but it’s usually something only top guys have. He’s fearless and perhaps most importantly, if he gets in the paint, he can hit it at any angle and will do anything in his power to make it go in. That, along with physical abilities say possible gold to me.
The jumper is a problem. It’s not as bad in form or accuracy as Michael Carter-Williams, and he did quite alright for himself this year. His shot doesn’t look silly like Kendall Marshall’s did, it just needs some tweeking. It may be a concern that he comes from a basketball family and that his father hasn’t helped him correct his form. That makes me question whether or not he’s coachable.
However, if the guy fixes shot (easier said than done) he can do a lot.

For_Never_EverParticipantHe does get knocked around the basket.
I don’t see it being an issue because he’ll get sronger.

Land of GrantParticipantYeah his BBIQ seems to be lacking. Bad shot selection, turnover prone, lost on defense, misses open teammates.
Hope it’s due to his coaching, not his internal makeup.
Bad thing is, he seems unaware of it. In interviews he says his biggest weakness, and the only one he identifies, is shooting. He has a ton of weaknesses. Basically, everything that isn’t accounted for by being a lightning quick 6’6 guy, is a weakness. Purely an upside guy in my mind.

Rip255Keep in mind hes only 17 in all the footage you have seen of him and mcw just entered the league at 22 years. I dont think this guy is so mysterious that hes getting huge shoe deals and top 5 draft buzz on 6’6" height alone. He’s been brilliant in every game hes played. Take what you have seen and add 5 years of development and consider whether you think he’ll be better than MCW is now.
And MCW is worthy of the 5th pick in most drafts.
I think he slides due to uncertainty though. We can talk upside and truly believe it, but It takes serious courage for a gm to take Exum early with so much uncertainty when the other prospects to #7 seem rock solid.
If he destroys in workouts though, theres still a slim chance he could go #1

Magic JordanParticipantI can see him slipping some but mostly due to the fact that he won’t workout for a lot of teams. If the Cavs end up with a top 3 pick I can see them doing something Cavish and taking him as opposed to filling a need like Jabari.
The teams that will consider him in the top 3 I think are the Lakers and Magic just because they both need point guards. Whether that is smart only time will tell.
The things I like about him are pretty standard, athleticism, height and length for position but what I like most is he seems to be ultra competitive. That’s something you can’t teach.
I am also not a believer that your PG needs to average 9+ assists as I have seen the Lakers win championships with Derek Fisher never averaging what? More than 5? Granted this was in the triangle but it doesn’t make it any less true. Mario Chalmers?
Time will tell with Exum .

vulture711ParticipantMichelle Wie signed a lifetime deal with Nike – what has she done lately ? Nike gambles and some GM will. From what I’ve seen he’s smooth, has a lousy outside shot. Looks like a 2 guard version of MCW, which isn’t the worst thing.

OhCanada-ParticipantYou cant evaluate a prospect off of onw or two games. Right now everyone that isnt a pro scout that was attatched to this guy like a leech is just guessing. Only time will tell how his strengths and weakness will translate.

For_Never_EverParticipantI sound harsh on him. He can improve on everything and is young. I need to see him against pro caliber players and athletes. All the games I watched he was either up against inferior athletes or players who he caught off guard weren’t familiar with him.

moochieeParticipantObviously, haven’t had much of a chance to evaluate him, but I would take a serious look at him with the number one pick from what I’ve seen. He’s about as fast in the open court as anyone you’ll find. Crazy potential as a slasher. Someone in the top 5 is going to be very happy to pick him, I think.

imAboutDatActionParticipantfrom everything im reading in this thread, it seems like he’s a future 2 guard.
i even heard Chad ford give him a Jamal Crawford but with a better head on his shoulders comparison.
thats not exactly what i want with a top 5 pick.

Magic JordanParticipantYeah sometimes I wonder about Fords comparisons. They seem lazy. Jamal is a jump shooter with creative handle to get him space. If Exum shoots that many long 2s he won’t see a lot of time in the court. He projects as someone who is attacking the rim consistently.

Rip255Haha I like Jamal Crawford but I’ve seen plenty of Penny comparisons too. Seems a fair basement/ceiling.
One thing we can all agree on is that he can get to the rim like few others in the league and is lightening quick in transition.
He likes to post up too. I see him being a low fg% guy but one that gets to the line relentlessly.
