France was not disappointed in taking home the silver medal in women’s basketball. They knew beforehand that they were facing up an almost unbeatable American team, and the pain of a 36-point loss was speedily washed over by a sense of triumph higher than any women’s team in the country’s history.

The French team that move on to the final in its second Olympic appearance was serenaded with cheers and song, waving flags and applauding by thousands of French fans. Players were equally delighted, and over the moon just to play in a game against a U.S. team that has won five gold medals in a row and 41 straight games.
