Around the trade deadline I noticed that Raja Bell’s name was on the trade block but unfortunately the Jazz could not formalize a trade involving him, but have instead decided to try and finish the trade around the draft. So from them until now I have been trying to think what could the trade be. Here’s what I think: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4pggh86

Jazz trade Raja Bell, Mehmet Okur, and 2012 pick from the Warriors to the Sixers for Evan Turner, Darius Songaila, and Marreese Speights.

Why Jazz do it: The Jazz have 3 needs this year. 1: starting SG, 2, backup future star PG, 3: SF to replace AK. 2 of those needs can be fulfilled in the draft with their 2 lottery picks. The other might be filled through the offseason or not filled at all. Evan Turner would most definitely fill the need of starting SG. He posesses the Jazz talent of an excellent passer, and he has the talent and skill level to start but has yet to do so because he currently does not know how to fit into the offense when he has the same skills as teammate Andre Igoudala. Also the Jazz can get rid of a nasty contract (Mehmet Okur) and actually get fair value for it. Songaila is another big that can help develop Favors along with Millsap, and Jefferson. He can also play the role that Fransisco Elson played this year eventually replacing him since he too is a free agent (But that need is not necessary but would be nice to fill) And then Speights would be another big body that the Jazz can use as a backup to either Jefferson or Millsap instead of having to use Fez.

Why Sixers do it: Gets rid of 2 draft players that seem lost in the Sixers rotation (Turner and Speights), get two veterans to help them continue to reach the playoffs next year and in the future (Bell and Okur), and they get a lottery pick in the 2012 draft. Also Hawes is expected to leave this year via free agency. Okur when healthy would provide a nice backup instead of having to use Battie and a change of pace like the Suns had in Lopez and Frye last year. Why would you want to pass that up?

    Jazz lineup after trade: Harris/2011 draft pick, Turner/Miles, 2011 draft pick/Hayward, Millsap/Favors/Songaila/Evans, Jefferson/Speights/Fez

    Sixers lineup after trade: Holiday/Williams, Meeks/Bell, Iggy/Nocioni, Brand/Young, offseason acquisition/Okur/Battie

    What do you guys think?

I don’t think the 76’ers would do it. They’re giving up Speights, who is developing into, if not already a pretty good player. And Turner, who still could turn out good…Just doesn’t make sense…

Does ETurner have more value than Okur(Who i believe is about to recieve AARP magazines) & is constantly hurt. RBell is a downgrade @ SG in terms of age. As far as Turner, i heard he is a late bloomer, once he gets used to surroundings he will get improve, he improved in HS in Chicago, He improved @ OState plus their is a renowned HS basketball coach in Philly that is going to help ETurner with his Jump-Shot this summer, he does’nt know if his jump shot mechanics are off or his confidence/ also he does’nt get enough shots in the game to have a rythm, so i think Philly will keep him. & the Jazz would be over crowded @ almost every position without a ClearCut Star to build around. I don’t like this trade for either team.

The part that I think makes this trade sell to the sixers is the 2012 draft pick from the Warriors. The 2012 draft is filled with future stars and this pick is a lottery pick. The sixers could really go far with it. They get 2 veteran players, they get rid of someone who is lost and thus free up the controversy between Turner and Iggy. Why not?

the Jazz would get their star in this draft. (I thought that was obvious.) And again this is why the 2012 lottery pick from the Warriors is included.

the 76ers are in the playoffs now, how can they justify breaking up a playoff team. Unless they can unload Brands montrous contract for cap relief next year?

There are Prob 2 Stars in this draft. The rest are 10 year veterans.

@jjonz, Veteran players can actually help a team not only make the playoffs but continue making the playoffs. Case in point Memphis Grizzlies. Got Tony Allen, and Shane Battier, now they too are in the playoffs. Bell and Okur could help Sixers continue to make the playoffs instead of just be a one time occurence like the Bobcats, Bucks, and Warriors are and were. (Warriors made the playoffs as an 8th seed in 2007 but that was it)

Just like pretty much every other Evan Turner trade, this would never happen.  I would much rather have Turner than take a chance on the Warriors 2012 draft pick.

I have nooo interest in seeing Raja Bell in a Sixers uniform and we already have a Mehmet Okur who stays healthy in Spencer Hawes.

Ward, I’m a HUGE Jazz fan and I’m aware that the Sixers and Jazz have engaged in probably more trades that any other two franchises in NBA history (Korver trade, Fes trade, Hornacek trade, and lots more), however, if I’m a Sixer fan, I might kill their management for pulling the deal on that one. Don’t get me wrong… I really would love this deal, but you’re talking about a progressing big guy and last year’s #2 pick for a veteran glue guy (Bell), expiring contract (Memo), and a highly protected pick that might revert to a 2nd round pick in a few years if the Warriors are really bad….

^^^ I actually think the Jazz veteran glue guy is Earl Watson, but Raja Bell is another candidate for it too. And I don’t really understand what’s the big deal with expiring contracts, to me they are just contracts that are huge for a certain player that is pretty much a nonfactor or not worth the money they are owing. These contracts need to go especially with the lowered salary cap coming in next year. You usually do not get equal value for them, now the Jazz actually do because they deal him early enough. Turner was the 2nd pick of the draft which means he is supposed to be good. And I also don’t like having to give up the 2012 pick but I also know that that is the only way to interest the Sixers.

Other possibilities include Memphis’ OJ Mayo, or the Wolves Wesley Johnson or Johnny Flynn. Mayo is a small SG that does not have a passing ability, which is what the Jazz’s offense depends on, and I actually we can fulfill the need for a SF and a PG through this draft. The one I worry about is the SG. I hate going through every year with practically no SG. Burks would be the perfect guy this yearm but he is the only 2 guard that is worth a lottery pick. The Jazz might not get him. Turner is his clone, and if he develops his full potential he would be well worth the cost.

Do you guys not remember the impact the Suns bench had last year in many games? They used Channing Frye off the bench as their backup Center to Lopez. This is the same bench that many people argued for best bench in the NBA!! With this trade the Sixers could have that kind of bench. No, Okur is not injury prone (He just got hurt once but in a big injury and came back too early before he was ready. Next year he will be ready and therefore will be a nice quality backup) but I don’t think he is done like everyone else thinks. He still has a few good years left. Yeah as a backup but backups are not bad, they are actually very valuable in this league especially veteran ones. I really think that this trade benefits both teams.

Never trade a number 2 pick in his second year unless his name is Hasheem Thabeet.

Easily one of the dumbest trades I’ve ever seen.

I hate that people make ridiculous trades simply because the salaries match.

If that’s the case, let’s just trade Ron Artest for John Wall.  So stupid… SMH

Raja Bell is garbage. Im not sure many if any teams would trade more than a second round pick for him. And Okur might never make it back. He does have a really big expiring deal but thats it. Really one sided trade for Utah.

and if anything the Warriors wouldnt have the highest lottery pick. they would probably be in the 10-14 range. sixers would not trade evan turner and speights for 2 (at the most) average vets.

Who’s to say the Warriors don’t make playoffs next year anyways haha. And there’s a good chance that the pick is protected (probably lottery protected), as someone mentioned earlier. I don’t know why people seem to think the Sixers would be willing to part with Turner because of a slow rookie year…
