Game of the Night; Knicks @ Heat
Next year the Knicks are going to be better then the Heat.
Canada
I doubt it. By then, the Heat will start gelling perfectly. Not only that, they'll probably add some size with the MLE and Udonis Haslem will be back.
Based on what?..Melo and Amare are gonna start playing defense? Billups gonna get a year younger? They are gonna sign and good defensive center that they can play 35 plus minutes?
The Knicks have to get lucky with their draft pick, Jerome Jordan, maybe a free agent signs for cheap and they need another shooter a pure shooter that can defend on the perimeter. Maybe Mickael Pietrus signs for the MLE
New York biggest need is size. Turiaf can block shots and clog the lane a bit, but they don't even really have a backup C.
Ronny is a good back up. He's not what you want for a title challenging team. Have you seen Jerome Jordan play. Just having any big man is good if you just wanna make the playoffs but I'm sure the Knicks want to be a contender, a true contender. Doesn't have to be a Allstar big man but he has to be pretty good at least
Never said he was, said if the Knicks threw the full MLE (which is 5-6 mil), I would be cool with that. Who knows? People were saying LeBron wasn't leaving Cleveland. If the Clippers decided 5-6 mil is too much for Jordan, he might become a Knick.
Either way, the Knicks right now have probably 6 players needed for a 9 man rotation. I think we could use a backup shooting guard who can defend and hit the 3, a big man who can either start or backup Turiaf and a combo forward who can shoot.
My picks: DeAndre Jordan, Alonzo Gee and JuJuan Johnson
-Carmelo gets the ball-
Melo: The gap ain't that big yet Lebron. You think your the only one that improved this year?
Lebron: Oh? You might want to pass it.
Melo: Why?
Lebron: My defense improved this year...
Melo: Shiiiii... -passes it-
James is gonna have to go into attack mode next quarter. I understand he's trying to get the rest of the team into it. But they kind of need a hero. Because that was one hell of a drought.
Miami is missing too many wide open 3s.
In the last 4 minutes of the 3rd quarter:
Jones: (0-1)
Miller: (1-2)
Chalmers: (0-2)
House: (0-1)
All wide open threes, atleast 3-4 of them should have been made. That's 6-9 points, then they can set their defense, and they get some momentum and less doubling on LeBron and Wade.
I dont mind critisism on my beliefs and at this point all they are would be beliefs, I should not have said by next year. What I should have said is whe the team is complete because next year is so uncertain lets say by 2012 Playoffs time they will be better my mistake.
I think the setup is better, whether or not Miami is playing with three of the Top 15 players or not the fact is their setup, their plan is not as good as New Yorks, and honestly I dont think the chemistry will be as good as New Yorks will be. Anthony and Billups 3rd game, against the Heat and they are right in it. It took the Heat 2 months to start playing well together, not only that but this New York team is currently gutted, its a joke. New York will get their players, no doubt about that. They will get what they want and the people who influence the NBA's path willl make sure they get what they want. Chris Paul is still the ultimate competitor, you thought Felton was a good leader of the Knicks watch what Paul does when he gets there. Paul will have these guys playing extremely hard D, they will have depth well established by that time.
Above all what New York will have that Miami wont is a dominant PG. Everyone knows the NBA is slowly becoming a league of extremely talented PG's, and Chris Paul is argueably the best defensive PG in this league, and possibly the most well rounded PG. I also would bet the house that they acquire a capable defensive player similar to Joel Anthony. Its New York and it has hit me, they arent messing around anymore.
Regular season wins are way overrated. Chris Bosh will melt in the playoffs I gaurentee it. Anthony is undersized, Dampier will show his Dallas Mavericks vintage ways, and Ilgauskas is soft as heck. They are going to get mashed up in the front court and this is their finished product? Im not sold. LeBron is going to be playing full time PG in the playoffs as well and be a defensive specialist on guys like Rose.
They are forcing a so called "dynasty" with pure star power, players playing out of position, in mathcups out of position, that &$#%#&@! wont fly in te playoffs. To me I see Miami as the lollipop, wananbe, throw it all together and see what happens type team. They didnt look for players that compliment eachother other then role players, they didnt build the team intelligently, all they said is lets get these 3 guys and see what happens. The Knicks are building their team right, they are taking their time, and making it a longterm plan. Doing it right...
Im sick of watching Lebron travel every other time he gets an iso. What ever happened to that rule.
You entire posts are based on opinions and what COULD happen.
1. What will happen if NYK doesn't get Chris Paul?
2. If they do, how will he have them playing extrememly hard defense? He can't even get the Hornets to play defense.
3. How do we know NYK will acquire a defensive center as you said?
4. Anthony is undersized but playing VERY well against Stoudamire right now.
5. How do you know Dampier will show his vintage Mavericks ways?
6. Ilgauskas has size to make up for his "softness". Nobody on the Knicks is within 5 inches of him.
7. How do you know Bosh will melt in the playoffs?
8. LeBron will not and DOES NOT guard point guards, so why is he going to do that in the playoffs?
Your entire response was based on possibilities and all these "IF" statements.
If they weren't playing so sloppy, the lead would be much bigger. I think the Knicks should be thankful. Well that and their defense has been pretty good considering its the Knicks. Still, you can see who's further along, and neither of these teams are ready for the long haul.
I agree with you Tongueout. All based on opinions... Im not doubting that one bit.
BIG SHOT BILLUPS BAM BAM!!!!!!!! ONE OF THE BEST GAMES OF THE YEAR!
Definitely living up to the hype, this is going to be a great rivalry for a looong time. Star power, big shots, close game. Who said stars getting together is bad for the league?
I have only looked at the original post and what happened to the high score? lol. This has been a really fun game. What a shot by Billups just now.
This Knicks team will be dangerous in the playoffs. That is why NY won the Melo trade. The top 3 teams(Boston, Miami, Chicago) weren't scared of the Knicks pre trade but now the Knicks will make any series a good one. Not saying they will beat any of those 3 but I could see the Knicks pushing any team to 6 games.
I swear theres just as many Knicks fans in the building as Heat fans. boos just poured in when Lebron was on the line.
Walker has been a good guy in spurts, but I'm loving him getting minutes. Hes got skills and his perimeter defense has been contagious. I would love to lock him and Fields up.
He made a great play there....
Defense.
I love this defensive mindframe... Billups is a godsend.
That is why Melo to NY was so important from a business standpoint. Melo and Amare in NY make the Knicks relevant. The NBA is the big winner of the Melo trade. Lakers good, NY good and Chicago good. 3 huge cities in different parts of the country.
And who says Amare and Melo don't play D? lol
The Knicks are closer to being a contender than people give them credit for. If Melo and Amare try to play some D, this team can beat anyone.
If Melo played this kind of defense all the time, he'd be in contention for a top 20 perimeter defender.
And was that Billups dappin Birdman?
Does this look like Lebron in the Playoffs at all? Does this look like Bosh in the Playoffs at all? No excuses they lost, and this New York team isnt even close to being finished making moves, they havent even grabbed a C yet.
Miami is 2 and 7 in 3-point games. please dont get caught up in the hype. This is just one regular season game dont think Im saying Knicks are this amazing team, they have alot of work to be the team they want. Miami is just overhyped, way too cocky, and arent that team the media proclaims they are. 2 and 7 in 3 point games and they are supposed to win a championship. Come on!
Billups is one of my favorite players. That guy is just such a professional, and he really changed the landscape of the game with the 3-pointer and then steal on back to back plays.
Carmelo played great defense on LeBron in the 4th. He moved his feet well and shielded LeBron from the basket with his body very effectively. Why doesn't he play like that defensively more often??? Well, obviously because of the intensity of particular games, but I was very impressed with his efforts and the efforts of the entire Knick team defensively. Forced the Heat into tough shot at the basket, A LOT of jumpers and rebounded the ball well at the end.
Miami is too much of a one-on-one team. Ball movement and spacing was poor at the end, and their perimiter shooting wasn't good enough tonight. The reason they struggle against good teams and in late game situations is because of their ball stopping offense, and the fact they don't have the interior force on really either side of the court is a problem. With the Knicks beating them here, Miami's record against the other upper tier Eastern Conference teams is very poor and as of right now, you can't consider them favorites to make the Finals, let alone win the championship.
Trinajoe you are right on. Wade should be the clutch guy in that position. He is a proven winner, proven clutch shooter. Look at the plays leading up to that,
1-Horrible perimeter D on Billups, easy 3-pointer.
2-Chris Bosh tries a post move, Billups takes it, Williams gets 2 at the line.
3-Lebron goes in and gets bailed out on a questionable foul call, and I doubt tats a foul when we get into physical playoffs basketball, then he hits 2,
4-Lebron goes in the same way Anthony contains, Stoudemire helps and blocks.

Your my new consultant. said everything Ive been trying to say. All that one on one basketball is not going to work in the playoffs.
This was a statement game. Miami wanted to prove that they could beat a good team, and expose the Knicks as just not that good yet. The Knicks wanted to prove to everyone they were on the scene and a force to be reckon with. Still early to decide that yet, but on Miami's side, this was a win they needed, at home, and they played a bad game. They have a lot riding on the line and haven't gotten the job done in the games with the biggest spotlight.
The Heat will be alright and a very tough out in the playoffs, I also feel the same way about the Knicks... Any time you have multiple superstars on a team like the Knicks and the Heat you will be competitive in the playoffs.... Btw I would love if it came down to Heat v Knicks and Bulls v Celtics to go to the conference finals... As basketball purist this postseason is going to be out of control...
Then this is what your hoping for Billy K, Celts 1 or 2 seed, Bulls 4 or three seed. Heat One or two seed and Knicks 5 or 6 seed, depending on if Atl and/or Orl finish higher. Then an upset over on of those teams with the Bulls beating the other. Maybe the Heat switch scenarios at the third seed but thats the long and short of it. I doubt the Knicks can move into the top 3...
I personally want Knicks v Celts for the Eastern Conference finals but, we'll see.

What a nice pass by LeBron James and the alley oop by Wade to James!!
This is going to be a high scoring game. 115+ for the Heat and they'll take the win.
