Looking at all the recent trade rumors involving Gasol and the Lakers. The best one without a doubt that would actually have a chance of going thru for both teams . Would be Bargnani and Jose for Darrius Morris and Gasol. Lakers get a 3 point shooter who you can hide his rebounding disadvantage with howard. Also streches out the floor the only problem with him is on the defense end. Something That Mike doesnt really care about. For Toronto they get a solid big men who is a great compliment to young team. Having lowery, Demar, Ross and Jonas they could really make some noise.
although this looks nice on paper...the trade doesnt help either team improve their weaknesses...which is defense. a poor defensive big for another poor defensive big who can grab a couple more rbs wont make much of a difference...if this is to happen i expect ed davis to be moved as well...thats actually a player the lakers can benefit from.
About 8 months ago, I suggested the trade: Gasol for Calderon and Bargnani. This trade would have been an decent improvement back then, but now that they have Nash and Howard this swap really doesn't make sense any longer for LA. Mainly because Gasol isn't the problem as much as he's the only player they have with trade value.... so if they're going to trade Pau they shouldn't get another old & slow moving point guard.
Lakers should give Jordan Hill playing time. He is pretty good quality defender, rebounder, able to run the floor and can shoot free throws. However Mike D'antoni is a coach that only allows a very short rotation. Once he decided you aren't a fit, thats it.
Also keep in mind Hill and D'antoni didn't really like each other in NY.
So he is making it personnel, instead of whats best for the team. That is a smart coach.
Wow why do people think Gasol has better value than he does. He is a 20 10 guy on most teams that run a slow offense but his contract and his mobility make him a player that you need to get rid of if you are the Lakers. They should have gotten rid of him 2 years ago.
