Now JMike i've slept with my fair of women during my short lived life. So i got a semi handle of these women.
The way you are talking it sounds like Highschool, but that doesnt matter. Girls are all the same. My time in Highschool and College always always fall for the cocky yet funny guy. Now it will be hard for you to pull this off if the girl already knows you are shy. But if she doesnt really know anything about you here is how you lay it down..
1. Act like everything she does or says to you have heard or done before. Ex. If she is flirting with you, dont blush or be shy about it. Throw it right back at her with a cocky smirk.
2. NEVER EVER give them what they want right away. If that girl walks up to you she wants a chase. Give it to her, resort back to 1 and put her on the side burner like you have other girls to talk to. But the trick is talking to her just enough to keep her around.
3. Throw on some R&B pandora, Listen to the way those artist talk about women. For me it was Usher and Early Trey Songz. Take on that persona and let it fly.
To put it simple Confidence is everything. Every girl you will talk to will say the guy could be average looking but if he knows how to carry himself it turns him into a 10.

Ok I want to add another question to this thread.
If a girl you just recently met, suddenly talks about his ex, and talks about how awful a guy he was and how she no longer have any feelings for him. Is she hinting that she's single and available? And is interested in you? Or is this girl I'm referring to just happens to enjoy talking about his ex?

Every girl I've met enjoys venting, and that's what this sounds like. I don't think this is definite evidence that she (he?) is interested in you. Of course, it doesn't mean the opposite either. In fact it seems to trust you, or at the very least, enjoy talking to you.
Keep it cool and be real with her. Walk up beside her and ask her how she's doing. This leads into a conversation itself. No need for witty one-liners that 90% of the time are alot gayer than they sound in your head. Just treats her like a normal person but show her that she has your attention.
