Next year the Bulldogs lose 2 valuable contributors in David Stockton and Sam Dower, but in return get an eligible Kyle Wijtler (who has been working on transforming this body and improving his game the whole year), top-30 ranked rookie Josh Perkins and also Arvydas Sabonis’s son Domantas.

These players will join Kevin Pangos, Premezek Karnowski and Gary Bell jr.

Does anyone think Gonzaga can be a top team next year?

Will Kyle Wijtler and Karnowki form one of the best big men duo in the NCAA?

How good is Josh Perkins and will he be able to contribute in his first year?

I, personally, haven’t seen much of Gonzaga this year, but Wijtler and Karnowski seem like a perfect inside-out duo. Also I am really looking forward to seeing Domantas play, his father is a legend in my country and I wonder if he can become a good player too.

I think their success in the long run will depend on if Premezek Karnowski can consistently play his size on both ends on the floor. He can be absolutely lazy at times getting blocked by guards, posted up or moved out of position by smaller bigs, etc.

To get some love for Gonzaga up here.  My brother went there and I almost did.  I’ve always followed them since I didn’t really have a team going to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  Watch out for the Big West!

Back to the topic.  Karnowski is your typical overpowering WCC center in that he strives on his size advantage.  He is very slow, unathletic and gumpy.  He doesn’t make anything look pretty and barely gets off the ground.  However, compared to most of the competition, he is huge and that alone allows him to take over in stretches of some games.  He does have a growing post game but like you touch upon, he has Yao Ming hops.

He reminds me of a softer version of Aaron Gray (sp?) who came out of Pitt a few years back.

He could improve on his touch and his conditioning has gotten much better but there is room for improvement. It will be intersting to see how he transitions from Dower to Wiltjer.  I think they complement perfectly and Kyle will have a chance to take over the team and show what he’s made of.

Stockton was overrated and got a lot of attention for who he is.  He is a scrappy little guy who plays with a chip on his shoulder.  His shot improved so that was a big reason he got more attention this year but I don’t think his loss will hurt the team much.  Pangos is a solid guard who played hurt for much of last season and he is the heart of the team.  When he goes, so goes the team.

They need someone to step up and come into their own.  Otherwise, they will continue the cycle of WCC dominance followed by a few tourney wins here and there with no serious threat at a national title.
