Why is he projected as a top 10 pick? He isnt worth a lottery pick and probably not even a top 20. I can’t imagine this guy being anything more than a role player at the very best.

While I’m not exactly high on him he is definitly worth a top 20 pick and maybe lottery. He can create of the dribble and can shoot on the move but isn’t limited if he doesn’t have the ball. He probably won’t be more than a role player, after the top 5 picks you are not usually getting an allstar but he will be a very good role player.

If your going to say someone is bad you should give actually reasons why instead of just saying he sucks. If you pointed out reasons why he won’t be good then I can atleast see where your coming from.

He’s going to be a decent role player. I don’t see a problem with him being picked in the 20-25 range, or even in the late teens.

He’s versatile and can shoot the ball. He’s not a very good defender and he’s not going to slash as much in the NBA as he did in college, but he’s worthy of being a mid-1st round pick IMO. He’s like a Francisco Garcia type player, which is definitely decent and serviceable even though Garcia started his career slowly.

I think hes overrated because of his teams success in the tournament…. They played well as a team and he was considered the best player. That doesnt mean hes gonna be able to guard LeBron, Carmelo, Kevin Durant and Paul Pierce or even be able to score.

Second of all, I feel like theres always players like this kid who get drafted too high. At best he seems like a worse Mike Dunleavy and why would any team want a guy like that with your lottery pick.

Ok thats what I mean give a reason and that is a good one. Much like Jordan Crawford, Hayward had an amazing March and teams need to remember that he was on a hot streak and playing against shorter and slower guys.

The difference is Jordan Crawford is projected in the mid 2nd round….. Crawford still seems like a better scorer than Hayward

While I’m high on Hayward, you gotta realize this.

Kid as alot more skill NBA wise than Morrison, Hansbrough, or Redick……who were all great college players but not great NBA players, even though with Redicks play as of late has made him a very serviceable player.

You can’t really say that because Hayward has everything going into the NBA that Morrison didn’t. Hayward has athleticism, better handles, and the ability to get his shot off without shooting 50 shots a game hopping they fall. Morrison was a great college player and scorer, and thats why he was drafted. Hayward and Morrison are two completely different players.

Hayward and Morrison aren’t comparable. Two completely different players. In no regard to race, I think Hayward is a cross between a more mentally tougher/nastier Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Mike Miller.

Luke Babbitt is actually closer to Morrison. And I’m not referring to the Morrison who blew out his knee with the Bobcats, lost confidence in his jumpshot and is now a bench warmer with the Lakers. I’m referring to the player at Gonzaga who showed a WIDE array of offensive skill, offensive IQ, offensive agressiveness and dominated majority of the defenders he faced.

Butler did have a great March, but I don’t think a lot of people realize that Hayward was on NBA scouts’ radars and was a borderline first round pick before the season started. Scouts noticed his skill set, versatility, toughness and shooting ability as a freshman. He scored 25 points and hit seven three-pointers vs Evan Turner, David Lighty and Ohio State. He put up 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks vs Derrick Brown, who was considered a potential lottery pick at the time, and Xavier. He shot 45% from three-point as a freshman. I saw Suns, Blazers and Spurs scouts at Butler’s games. The Pacers, being the hometown team, were a regular.

Hayward was also one of the best players on the U-19 USA Team last summer. He shot over 40% from three-point range, showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and finish with either hand and make great decisions with the ball.

Butler had Minnesota, UCLA, Clemson, Georgetown, Ohio State, Xavier, UAB and Siena on their schedule this past season. Hayward averaged over 17 points, 11 rebounds and 1 block against those teams. He had his struggles in certain areas, but overall… Didn’t disappoint scouts. His three-pointer didn’t fall this season, but I think he convinced scouts he’s not just a shooter. He actually didn’t play as well as he could in the tournament, but he did/showed enough while leading his team past great teams.

Overall, I think he convinced scouts that he’s worth a mid first round pick. He’s limited due to his lack of great athleticism, but has nice upside. His success in the NBA will depend on his ability to be respectable on defense/deny dribble penetration and regaining his shooting touch.

Its funny how you guys are talking about players like Hansbrough, Redick and Morrison who were all head and shoulders better than Hayward in college. LOL @ all you people saying he has NBA skills that these guys didn’t have….. Why were they all drafted in the lottery and #3 in Morrisons case…. Obviously people thought the same things about these guys a few years ago as you people think about Hayward now.

Playing for a team that made the finals makes you incredibily ovverrated, I’m surprised people don’t understand this by now.

figure out what does gordon hayward have on the redick’s, hansbrough’s, or morrison’s of the NBA!?!?! what kind of role did he establish in his 2 years at butler? was he a hustle guy that would bang with anyone? NO… was he a lights out shooter? NO was he a guy that could score from anywhere on the floor? NO… IMO he wasn’t even the most valuable player on that butler team! (Selvin Mack)

Luke Babbit would be better choice between the two in this draft, he has more atleticism and a better shooting stroke and he’s a stronger more pysical player…. don’t believe me check out the combine results!

One other thing that Hayward did that most of you fail to mention is that he was the best player on the Under 19 Gold Medal winning USA team last summer. The competition he went against then and the level of competition he faced in non-conference and NCAA tourney games was extremely tough.

He played against the Dukes, K-States, Syracuses, Mich St, Xavier, Ohio State, Georgetown, and Clemson. He more than held his own.

You can’t ever really tell how a kids game will translate unless he is an unbelievable talent, ie James, Melo, Howard, and others. No one knew Wade would be as good as he is. Some might have thought he would be that good but no one knew for sure. One of the greatest coaches and GMs of all time (Larry Brown and Joe Dumars) passed on DWade.

As for Hayward his game translates to a guy who can rebound, create his shot (because of his size), create for his teammates and be a solid team player. It all depends on which team he goes to.

Even if Hayward turns out to be a decent role player, I still think Paul George and Luke Babbit will be the better nba players. If Aminu is on the board you gotta take him over Hayward, even though I think he might be a bust

I don’t know why you are trying to compare Hayward with Wade……

And Joe Dumars judgement is clearly questionable, we all know about the Bosh, Wade, Carmelo failure but the contracts he gave Ben Gordon and Charlie V make it seem he wants to destroy the franchise.

Here we go again. With the exception of the I in win, this is an entire thread comparing Gordon Hayward to other white guys.

    Bostjan Nachbar
    JJ Reddick
    M. Dunleavy
    Babbitt
    Adam Morrison
    Tyler Hansbrough

Fundamentals, you were the worst. Are you kidding? Why are Reddick, Hansbrough, and Morrison even in the conversation? The only valid comparisons on that list are Dunleavy and Babbitt. The other guys have virtually nothing in common with Hayward.

There are approximately 450 players in the NBA and about 80% of them are black. Why can’t you guys come up with valid comparisons to a couple of black guys?

By the way, on a completely different note, why does everyone ignore the fact that Hayward was the leading rebounder on Butler?

I think that he gets picked in the 15-18 range and IND makes a trade down for him because ive heard they’re high on him

Nachbar was a highlight reel dunker and a very good athlete. Hayward has a bigger frame, but doesn’t have the finishing ability of Nachbar.

He reminds me of a more athletic version of Ryan Anderson. Sorry, I can’t think of a black player off the top of my head.

Hayward will go sooner than most expect. He is working out for most of the lottery teams, including the Warriors at 6, Clippers at 8, Jazz at 9, and Pacers at 10. Now that doesn’t mean he will go that high, but it indicates a range where he may go.
